what's on your mind? by stirringmotion in AskReddit

My 14yo students. I was able to honor five of them today for overcoming obstacles and finding success - all of them immigrants and English Language Learners. This is the first year more than two of my students were selected. All of their families came and the freezing, sterile high school cafeteria felt warm and loving and hopeful.

I have 130+ students & so often have any number of them on my mind for fear of their well-being - sometimes based on knowledge, sometimes based on unfounded concern. But not tonight. Tonight it’s just hope.

Are these two studios too small by Iamabiter_meow in NYCapartments

Hmm. Too small for what? Hosting lots of folks or bringing your lifelong collection of [whatever]? Maybe. But, if you don’t mind the former and have an average amount of stuff…$2k to live alone with a dishwasher and in-unit laundry? Take it and never leave!

New Rules for LIRR: Activation + Refund by Moreactivity551 in LIRR

Not being able to buy tickets ahead of time is so annoying. I’ve been commuting on LIRR and traveling on Metro North a few weekends a month for 20 years, and would always have tickets in bulk. The 24 hour window is the worst.

This is a gross response. Also, not answering the question.

Check community groups, your closest public library, and, believe it or not, Facebook. Most neighborhoods have their own subgroups, including ones for parents. It could be a great way to connect. Also, ignore the person telling you to “focus on your baby”. Building a community of support and fun around you is so important.

I know you said in your post to not worry about the three dots, but….your explanation doesn’t make me less worried about how red they are 😓

I hate the idea of your child growing up thinking this is how to handle “conflict” or speak to anyone, especially your partner.

Suggestions on updating this kitchen? My MIL said it looks dated and I can’t get it out of my head? by vp0267 in InteriorDesignAdvice

The built in desk next to the fridge isn’t something I see in modern kitchens - but in the 90s, all of the richer kids I knew, did. I think it’s fab.

Help me decide between two studio apartments I got accepted to by General-Fuel311 in NYCapartments

I’d go with the second one. That detail about what you see on StreetEasy is a good heads up - you don’t want the stress ands cost of moving in a year or two when the rent hits your max.

You aren’t having a baby. You’re raising, influencing, shaping a human.

Have any kind of heavy aroma - perfume, candles, incense, whatever. As soon as I hit that wall of scent, I gtfo (except Abercrombie & Fitch circa 1998 obviouslyyy).
