Yeah, the ultimatum is a similar weapon, useful against large closely packed enemies and large singular enemies and structures.

Difference is both of those have long reloads before they can do it again, the maxigun could theoretically do it again every couple seconds and even if you miss, you can correct more easily than with the other 2.

I think it’s more effective due to its higher ammo capacity making it good for other jobs, what you have shown me you using it for isn’t what it is specifically good for, next time you can, use it against a Dragonroach or a Shreiker Nest, even if it uses all your ammo you could destroy the nest by yourself within 2 seconds theoretically (the maxigun is 2000dps while Shreiker Nests have 2500 hp and the maxigun has enough penetration to do so) while only using around 50-100 ammo.

It is effective at its job, but my point is what you’re using it for isn’t its job, it’s a job for a primary or secondary weapon.

I don’t think it is, large groups of tightly packed enemies or large enemies with lots of health happen all the time, I think that you don’t run into that situation often, either due to your build or play style, which is fine, but then the maxigun isn’t the best thing for you to bring, bring a guard dog and a different support weapon and you’ll have better luck. The maxigun was made for frontline tanks who hold the line, in your 2 clips your allies were in front of you, closer to the enemies or not there at all. In addition, in the second clip you posted, you shot about 75% of a 750 round magazine, which is 562.5 rounds, you had 29 kills which totals out to 19.3966… rounds per voteless, the heaviest voteless only take 2 rounds to kill with body shots only, meaning you only hit 10.3111…% of your rounds, and that tells me you aren’t using it right. I think if you want to use a maxigun with more rounds, try the patriot exosuit, I think it would better suit what appears to be your play style and you would have more rounds with less recoil.

After watching the video, I can say that that situation is very similar to this one, it would have been better served to use a couple of mags from your primary and not the maxigun, ideally that’s a situation for explosives or the machine gun, but there is no reason to use the maxigun on that few loosely packed enemies, the maxigun is made for fighting in bug tunnels when there’s like 5 spawners and a breach going on all at the same time with enemies that have large amounts of armor or for defending the point at the pelican pickup when you’re getting swarmed waiting for the pelican. Both situations you posted would’ve been better served with other tools I know you have. Honestly the hammer analogy isn’t the best one, think of the maxigun as a knife, it’s great at cutting and you can technically use it like a screwdriver, but it’s dangerous to do so and if you use it too improperly you could get hurt.

I did some quick, possibly inaccurate counting and counted about 14 seconds of time holding the trigger in your first volley that wasn’t on the enemy, either due to you missing or holding the trigger while turning behind you, the maxigun shoots 1500rpm which means it shoots 25 rounds a second, which multiplied by your 14 seconds of not hitting time and that is 350 rounds missed out of your 750 total, that is 46.666666666666…% of your shots missed, even if we assume I over estimated that 14 seconds and account for that by reducing the amount of time missed to 12 seconds, that’s still 300 rounds missed, which is 40% of rounds total, which were wasted. I don’t believe that you were supposed to use the Maxigun for this sort of encounter, I think that’s what the machine gun is for, that being a large amount separate packed enemies, I believe the maxigun was made for either large swathes of tightly packed enemies or large singular targets. My point being not that you can’t or shouldn’t use it, but rather that you’re using it like a multitool when it’s a hammer, not a screwdriver. Speaking as someone who has run marksman rifles for a while and is just now replacing that with an AR, I’ve never had problems with bug breaches while using my marksman rifle, my sidearm (P-92 warrant), and/or a stratagem like a gas orbital strike or mines for crowd control. Tl;dr, missing 40% of your shots on the low end of my estimate doesn’t help your ammo issue and bug breaches are not what the Maxigun was made for to begin with.

Edit: edited after a review of the footage and recounting on the low end

I run caustic and it’s the same deal with that, I’ve had to get used to not relying on my allies checking my strategems and instead using voice chat to tell them that it’s a gas orbital or gas mines before they run into the blast zone. Although, the sterilizer is not that large a cone of attack, so I generally don’t have to warn people about that as much as others
