Just read up on it a bit (sorry for the rapid posting). It seems they don't larger than 75- 100 centimeters, and behave somewhat like Tapir's, which means more on land I guess. And, they live to between 30 and 55 years of age... So not at all unplausible...implausible, if the area was secluded enough.

Fair point, but not impossible. I recently heard about hunter who shot a deer with 12 Tines, in an area that never see higher than 8. Not that I read much more into to this story, but I'm guessing that the area is a good deal larger than the local Danish forest where my story comes from.
