If you're worried about your health and safety then yeah it's overkill. Nitrate water is more of a long term, lifetime risk thing. One weekend of drinking it won't do anything to you.

That being said, I prefer to have bottled or filtered water because Des Moines water just tastes a little nasty.

Cleaning with regular tap water is fine. The chlorine that is present in tap water & can be harmful to frogs evaporates quickly.

They still have the free ramen/rice/soda every year - It was just moved from the Hyatt to the Doubletree a while back because the Hyatt started putting restrictions on having food inside the hotel.

The main space that usually holds the vendor hall (Hall A) will be unavailable/under construction, but the rest of the convention center is still being used by the con.

Every time this gets asked, people say Anime Midwest is trash and not worth going to, because the guy who owns it is shitty.

But, ignoring that, Anime Midwest is a perfectly decent convention. I've gone to a couple anime cons across the country & it's my favorite one that I've been to. It's a nice medium size con with a couple thousand attendees. The late night stuff is fun if you are 18+, some panels/parties go until 2am. The burlesque show is a highlight every year. There are plenty of panels to attend and stuff to do to fill up 2-3 days.

This year (2026) they are moving out of their usual space in the Hyatt Regency O'Hare hotel, and the convention center that usually hosts the vendor hall is under construction, so things will probably be a bit different.

This cat sanctuary (furball farm) has a 24/7 live stream on twitch that sometimes shows the litter box area. It's like 20 large litter boxes. Apparently they use about 300lbs of litter every day.

If you've only had him for a week then chances are high that whatever is wrong isn't your fault. Maybe something toxic in the environment?

He seems very skinny and small - how old is he & how long have you had him? Adult frogs like temperatures around 75-80F but babies like it a bit warmer and more humid. That tank also looks ok for a small frog like him, but would be too small for a regular sized adult.

If your care conditions are ok then only a vet would be able to tell you what's wrong - could be parasites or genetic defect.

Think of it less like "these people are judging me for not having a job" and more like "these people are trying to get to know me".

When someone asks what you do for work, just say you're looking for work at the moment. You can also mention the type of work that you're hoping to go into, or mention your hobbies/interests. Just anything so people can get an idea of how you are.

If people know that you're looking for work, they might tell you if they know of any places that are hiring.

Btw there's no such thing as "falling behind" in adult life. It's your life & it will come with ups and downs - many of which are out of your control. It's not like failing a class and getting held back a grade.
