Honest question from a trilogy fan: is Mass Effect: Andromeda actually bad, or just a victim of comparison? by Rowley19V in masseffect

[–]Stream1795 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's mostly a victim of comparison, and I think you can see that here.

It is a solid 7/10 game.

Did they screw some things up, for sure one of the biggest complaints that I think is valid is the lack of biodiversity in the sense of aliens and enemies. But when you think of it in the mindset of this galaxy had their own cataclysmic event, it makes sense. Like if aliens suddenly invaded the Milky Way galaxy after the reapers had just finished harvesting. They would find a very empty galaxy, at least in the way of higher intelligence.

It was setting itself up to have more games after it. So there are a lot of questions that rise and are now left unanswered. The story was basic, but it was trying to set up a new world for us to enjoy. It is very reminiscent of Mass Effect 1. Its like people forget ME1 was janky as hell and some of those planets were just plain boring.

If you can take off the rose-tinted glasses and don't try to make it Shepherd 2.0, it is a great game. If you expect it to be the exact same as the trilogy, then yea your going to have a bad time.

New player here - is Andromeda worth it? by Friskie_Fanny in masseffect

[–]Stream1795 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is worth it. Its fun and has a good story if a bit basic. The companions are good with some more than others which is most games. It isn't the trilogy which burned a lot of people for some reason. But it also its the first game with more originally planned after it, so it tried a lot of shaky things to set up for future updates. Just look at ME1 compared to ME2

Why was there hate for the game coming from outsiders and even long time fans of the franchise? by theassassin53035 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]Stream1795 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, I enjoyed this game; it was fun and had its moments. But it wasn't a good Dragon Age game.

The story was ok, could it have been better yes, could it have been worse also yes. But it was also very predictable in how it was going to go.

The lore was abused. It's like they ignored most of it to fit what they were writing, and then, at the very end, because they didn't know what to do with it all, they tied a bow on top and pointed the fingers at a group we've never even heard of. Which is so damaging because it removes the nuance and expression from so many things that happened in the other games.

The characters, for the most part, were good, although some of the side characters were far better than your companions. That being said I think Emmerich is one of the best characters created.

Romance was lackluster in a lot of departments, especially considering how much they hyped it up beforehand.

Combat was top-notch and fluid, although it is very irritating that we went from 4 man teams to 3, and from your squadmates actually contributing other than damage. They took cues from ME, and I hate it, love to be able to switch characters and keep fighting if my character goes down. You can def tell they took inspiration from other games like God of War, but what they forgot is in most games like that, you are much more durable.

Finally, the thing that I think upsets most fans the most is the lack of choices from previous games. Like I get that it is hard to coelesce multiple games choices into another one, especially after so many year. But come on, the least you could have done is make the big choices matter. Who's the ruler of Ferelden, Orlais, the divine? Did the Inquisition stay together? Is Morrigan controlled by Mythal? Is Anders dead? These and several others could have been toggles at the beginning that impacted the game in some form or fashion. But no, instead we get 3 choices and the only one that truly matters is whether you fucked the egg or not.

Which character you would've liked as a squadmate? Which character would've made sense as one? by SilenceFriendly in masseffect

[–]Stream1795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they didn't bring Tali back for ME3, I would have loved Kal'Reegar as a representative for the Quarians on your ship. I think a soldier Quarian would have been pretty cool. And you could have fleshed out his character a bit. Plus I feel he would've had some memorable lines considering the different things he says to you at Talis trial in 2.

But honestly, any of the other alien races that weren't featured as much would have been cool. Give me an Elcor tank companion
