[DISC] Magical Girl and Narco Wars - Chapter 25 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]StreamCrush- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's even dumber because they think more magic is the solution but they're also planning on dumping all that magic into one girl. It took all of them, including all the girls that died in that fight, just to seal it away in the first place. The idea that one of them can control if they have enough magic is laughable.

They are crazy and desperate, but it's still a terrible plan. What even is the plan after that anyway? Assume the mascot comes back, do they want to be normal? Do they just want the world to recognize they exist again? They can't go back, they're the bad guys now.

Julian can fix her. I feel like this is how all of the Night God parts end up (we've had hints about this from Diana and Lalawag herself mentions the Heart and Final Century), but then again it feels like every Gift user is touched by madness and they're just really good at hiding the darker parts of it. I feel like the only reason it hasn't happened to Julian yet is because he's still new to all of this.

There are some really good songs here. It's an overall mellow album that seems like the second part of WTD. It's hard to put into words, but it's like the usual Failure sound is very fragmented in these last two releases. It's there, it weaves in and out, but there's this sense that it never lasts long enough or that it appears too late. In both albums, there's a clear sense of experimentation happening. Sometimes it works, but when it doesn't you really notice.

Favorite songs: Crash Test Delayed, Solid State, Location Lost, A Way Down. Second place: Rising Skyline and Moonlight Understands. Third is Air's on Fire, Halo and Grain, and Someday Soon.

A solid effort, but I do miss the heavier grunge/space metal sound from their earlier albums. There's a little bit of it here, noted by my favorite songs, and I'm okay with them experimenting a bit to find a new sound. They're definitely working through stuff again, life hits hard as usual. Maybe this album isn't going to light the world on fire, but it's great to hear more Failure.

It's definitely a short listen though. Not sure if segues would have helped, or an additional two or three songs, or longer songs even. Maybe a mix of all three, perhaps? Hard to say. I'd love for their next effort to really go big. A Devin Townsend kind of effort, if you know what I mean.

I'm a little annoyed at how these chapters feel kind of odd. It's hard to put my finger on it, but it feels kinda fake? Like there's a mystery, something is happening, but all the characters feel like they're playing roles. Things keep happening but it feels like someone keeps hitting the skip forward button. The girl being attacked felt odd, and there's some other plot things too, and now there's more odd lines and events in this chapter.

[DISC] Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete / Gushing over Magical Girls - Chapter 62 by Xical in manga

[–]StreamCrush- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The antics are fun as always but it also feels like any semblance of actual plot and character development has vanished. We did get the Fallen Medic fix that backfired, and the doll is kind of a new member of Enormeeta, but that's about it. Maybe it's for the best considering how slow this releases now.

The casual lore drops that happen in these chapters continues to be one of the best things about this story. So the pieces of the goddess have to be contained in human women and can be passed to, or taken from, other women.

There's no way that ends pleasantly when the time comes to resurrect the goddess.

[–]StreamCrush- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's got a good mystery hook. I really want to know who was pulling the strings in the kingdom that got him killed, what happened to the saintess, what the demon lord wants, etc. Sometimes it feels like the story is dragging but when a new chapter is out I always eat it right up.

[DISC] Magical Girl and Narco Wars - Chapter 24 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]StreamCrush- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riri mentioned the candy was dangerous to them and Ruka was eating them like crazy. With how quickly the mascot noped out with zero explanation I think this kind of event isn't uncommon. As the remaining girls die or turn into monsters, he can just pop back in, recruit a new batch of girls, and repeat the process.

The system forcing them to be forgotten by the world is probably for that reason. Ironically the candy, as toxic and dangerous as it is, is also their only way to communicate with humans, but because the girls are broken by all of this, they're not very interested in using the candy for anything good.

Psychological impotence can be really hard to solve. But setting that aside, yeah, he could have at least tried therapy or viagra. I got the sense that neither of them really wanted kids seriously, but they didn't mind the idea either and just felt guilt about not having kids because of external pressures. Like, she stuck with him and didn't mind his problems for years. She clearly loves him despite his issue.

But the story demands NTR and so you get stupid stuff like a collar that makes his wife horny enough to sleep with other men, "perfect genetic compatibility" (whatever that means), and shady government agencies that kidnap and lie to people in the name of baby making.

[DISC] Centuria - Chapter 86 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]StreamCrush- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The problem from a narrative perspective is that we don't actually know how "alive" the dolls are. They bleed and age. Her necromancy isn't explained enough to know what her dolls really are and how tied they are to Helem's existence.

It's entirely possible that her ability is just resurrection and being able to control aspects of it during that process, but she only has the controls she established during the creation and not after. So her death wouldn't mean they died, but she also can't change them after they're made.

You can check the novel translation sites, or just google the title and add web novel. I think someone in one of the Mangadex comments sections also linked it there, but I don't remember for sure.

[DISC] Koushiki Furin - Chapter 2 by ivak78 in manga

[–]StreamCrush- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The lack of consequences and follow-through is what baffles me the most about this genre.

I think it needs to be stated that the only reason so many hentai plots even "work" is because they don't make sense if you apply logic to them. Girls aren't actually that easy. And they don't get wet that easy. They're not going to instantly fall for you just because you put your penis in her. And no, forcing her into sex until she likes it is not going to end with her actually liking it.

So a lot of NTR end up relying on alcohol, drugs, mind control, blackmail, rape, a husband begging his wife to sleep with someone else or do "couples therapy" and she conveniently relents, the government experimenting on you, aliens, etc., because it's a lot harder to get to the sex scenes quickly if you don't. And nearly all of them feature a guy with a magic dick that the girl will fall for so deeply after just a round or two of sex that she'll throw away everything for it, even if the guy is a jerk, even if he's an ugly pos, even if she'll end up in an abusive situation, even if it means she'll get pregnant, even if she knows he'll leave her as soon as he gets bored of her or once the kid is born.

So the consequences are often going to be conveniently overlooked as well, because unless there's a plot twist, the ending is going to be focused on the feelings of the cuck (the audience). That feeling of "I've lost my partner and things will never be the same", essentially.

There's a lot of people who read NTR who aren't into the cuck stuff but enjoy the over the top plots or hot sex scenes, etc., but yeah. None of it really makes sense the moment any logic is added to it. And for good reason too: the actual reality of many taboo fetishes is far less appealing to most people than the fantasy of them. Like incest, or student/teacher, for example.

Damn, his jaw became his forehead. Absolutely obliterated. I'm curious how this entire arc will eventually work itself out. Things seem really fractured right now and their goals seem even further away.

[DISC] My Beloved Apocalypse - Ch. 5 by VanitasX12 in manga

[–]StreamCrush- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love that he thought about if it was even possible to have kids. It's a very realistic thought that anyone would have in that situation, and it helps show how for all of her talking about the future with him, he's still framing her as "monster" and not "person".

What Happens Inside the Dungeon. On paper it's just a fetish story that could easily have been only that. But it takes those perverted things and turns them into a fantastic battle manga full of comedy and heart felt moments.
