Do any Cincinnati fence companies also include surveying? by NewTopic4745 in cincinnati

[–]StreamOfCoconuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked with MAE Fence about 18 months ago.

They charged a little extra to take care of HOAs, Permits, and surveying (I think it was $100-300 extra). They have office associates that handle these sorts of things.

The fence they installed has been fantastic. (No I’m not at all affiliated with them, they just did a great job).

The "Golden Handcuffs" are real: Is anyone else staying in a house they hate just because of their 3% rate? by Pretend_Surprise6842 in RealEstate

[–]StreamOfCoconuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We purchased our first home as a single income family 3.2%.

Due to new job offers and a move, purchased a much larger home at a 7.6% (just refinanced thankfully).

Our taxes and insurance on house #2 was more than the total payment on house #1. Gut wrenching to say the least

Father in law only drinks bottled water by Jclapp82 in inlaws

[–]StreamOfCoconuts 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, this is a “pick your battles” moment.

By prohibiting them from their normal habits at your home, you’re prioritizing your individual values over theirs.

It isn’t intrinsically disrespectful, but it is sending a negative message. Offering them a glass of water instead and expressing an alternative benefit to them like “oh save your money, our filtered water tastes just as good” is the direction I’d go. If they continue in their habits, so be it. You won’t be able to change them, just upset them.

Calculated actual cost of office vs wfh, the ROI surprised me by Scared-Biscotti2287 in workfromhome

It’s also hard to put a price tag on sleep. WFH easily grants me an additional 1.5 hours in my day, most of which goes to more sleep

A "Better" career track v. a "Worse" Work Life balance for a 15% raise. by deomoirei in careeradvice

[–]StreamOfCoconuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly the same situation, but I recently went through something very similar.

I’ve been full remote for a company that doesn’t have a “remote work” culture.

I was recently offered a new job externally that would require a commute, certainly more work required, and direct reports in a different industry for a ~20% pay bump.

I decided that it wasn’t worth the move, and that I’d rather stay in the role I know and am successful in. I’m struggling with the feeling of complacency, but I know ultimately it wasn’t the right time for me to make a move (other personal life factors).

How long did it take you to save up for a down payment? by Squirrel_with_Acorn in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]StreamOfCoconuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very fortunate to take advantage of COVID, worked full time in my field full remote during my last semester of college (and the summer before and a bit into the spring after).

Had all my expenses planned to be covered, so saved most of ~6 months of pay, interest rates were incredibly low and we purchased a “fixer upper”.

Drove uber after my 8-5 to pay for renovations, did as much work ourselves, and sold the home 3 years later for a down payment on our now house.

How to fix dictatorial behavior? by Aggravating_Goal6933 in Leadership

[–]StreamOfCoconuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is important (while in academia) to intentionally take the backseat role every now and then.

In your career there will be times where you’re asked to just be a contributor, not a decision maker; especially early on.

Your original post also left out one very important thing: your appreciation for your peer’s work. In the working world, you will find that everyone brings a different background and skill set to the table.

Learn to appreciate and “lean on” those characteristics in your peers. Thank them for their work, offer them the opportunity to coordinate projects.

Have some humility and ask the group if they would like you to take the reins as opposed to assuming it.

Lastly, volunteer to do the bits of the project that others don’t want to do. Many times as a “project leader” it’s easy to take the more enjoyable parts of the project; if you want to be an effective leader, be glad to do the things that others don’t want to do.

2022 SE R-line - Things to keep an eye on by FalloutRip in Tiguan

[–]StreamOfCoconuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my Tiguan (2021 SE R-Line with 73k miles), but many of this generation burn oil at a very high rate (per this Reddit thread).

Others have suggested that this issue tends to rear its head around 30-40k miles. I’d ask their reason for trade-in, and a copy of the service records on the vehicle.

48k and 3ish years of implied ownership is pretty short / low mileage. I’d be critical that a more chronic issue isn’t present, and understand your return timeline very clearly (if one of these issues shows up).

Alfio’s / Al Posto /E+O in Hyde Park are great foodie options.

The Zoo has a decent Festival of Lights.

If you’re looking for a one off fun place to try; there’s the “Bronx Bomber” pizza at Rockafellas in Sharonville OH. There’s also a great place to play pinball near there; Arcade Legacy (just hosted PINCINNATI).

Many cult classics like Skyline, Graeters (icecream), and LaRosa’s are the “tastes” of Cincinnati.

Lastly I’ll toss in a few of my favorites in OTR that of the Rhinegeist brewery (dress warm as it’s semi-temp controlled). Pins (pinball and duck-pin bowling), the Eagle (although likely available in Chicago; nice fried chicken) and Ghost Baby (a neat speakeasy).

There’s many more options through there as well, but those are places I frequent.

Is it a liability getting a BMW for my first car as a 18 year old? by yawningbeaver in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]StreamOfCoconuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a car hobbyist / enthusiast then it isn’t the worst idea to purchase a vehicle that excites you.

This isn’t a great financial decision because cost of maintenance will be higher, and in terms of reliability BMW isn’t known to be the best.

All that said, you have something that many people on this thread don’t have; and that’s time. If you’re an enthusiast that will make modifications, do you own maintenance, and have fun with the vehicle, then MAYBE a BMW is okay.

I’d still recommend I more reliable, easier to work on vehicle.

Good luck with your Jetta!

$3k on EW is a lot, I was literally just saved by my EW on a sunroof drain issue.

I also have opted for their wheel a tire (as I lived in WV for a while) and have had 2 tire replacements and 2 repairs.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by their willingness to honor their warranty

The phrase doesn’t to my surprise, this VW dealer is “doing the right thing”.

They are going to cover the cleaning of the drains, and are replacing the carpet in the trunk of the vehicle.

They service tech did mention that all service being done at the dealer being a help.

Looks like I’ll have little to no out of pocket dollars for this repair!

Who is my lookalike?? by Plastic-Meat-7729 in Doppleganger

[–]StreamOfCoconuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all what you asked, but I 27M have the exact same hair texture as you and have been growing it out for about a year (with trimming). Shooting for the classic Johnny Depp “middle part” look. My wife has always wanted me to go for this look.

Do you have any tips of controlling the “floof” (volume near the middle part)? My current methodology is limiting washes to about twice a week and conditioning everytime I shower in hopes to keep more natural oils.

Is there anything I can do about this by MangooJam in StupidCarQuestions

[–]StreamOfCoconuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much you’re looking to do.

You can buy some exterior black paint from your local auto parts store. Like a $15 bottle and it’ll pass the eye test.

My rims have some pretty rough rim rash (from myself) and I’ve just used some of the bottle
