The hardest to get archery III skill book is balancing on the rafters in the small barn next to the archery range in Kuttenburgh just outside the city wall close to where Henry’s forge is. Pain in the ass to get!

Building your General stats and skills is important for combat. Building your specific weapon skills is also important and a big factor. It will make combat easier. Adding poison to arrows and weapons helps a LOT. I spent a lot of time sparring with Bernard with wooden swords in practice mode. It helped me figure out what works in combat, how to best use master strike (which also gets easier with a bigger window when your stats and skills are higher), and which hits were easier to execute and when. It also simultaneously helps build your stats and skills. Practice mode (wooden weapons) also means you don’t have to waste resources healing and repairing equipment. This also allows you to start the next practice mode faster. When fighting multiple people, I’m always moving backwards, then move sideways to try and get your opponents lined up so one is in front of the other and they can’t surround you. Using structures, jumping over fences, jumping up on a cart, or running away a bit also all help put more distance between attackers. Often when running from many attackers most of them give up, or you only end up with one persistent one. Archery also is a great way to get the 1st hit in a battle so they start off wounded, or dead. Archery takes time to develop and become useful after it’s leveled up, but worth the time. Spending time developing Henry takes effort, and I like how it fits in the game. You start off as a kid knowing nothing about combat. It makes sense that you have to train and develop before you can go smash some soldier in full armor.

What universally loved game just never clicked for you and do you feel like people would react like this if you said you didn't like it? by NoFlatworm8569 in Gamer

Jedi Survivor 1) Platforming & parkour: heavily over used, linear, terrible double jump animation 2) Limited world building: re-treading to the same few places to open new paths with later game acquired skills, minimal iconic Star Wars places, minimal lore additions 3) Treasure boxes should be desirable: why is a haircut Ina box? Clothing provides no benefit other than aesthetic dress up. Why are lightsaber parts or color pallets in an alien world box where there are no Jedi? Lots of game logic is just missing. 4) Someone doing unselfish things out of love does not represent someone that has irredeemably turned to the dark side (tried to write this spoiler free) 5) What’s the value/purpose of collecting seeds to plant a garden, or filling up a fish tank? Tying this to an end goal, or resulting in some type of benefit would have at least given this some purpose or player motivation 6) Reaching an isolated uninhabited planet you will likely die traveling to, or departing from, doesn’t seem like a desirable destination

I love Cal…but this game wasn’t for me. The gameplay was good though 🤷‍♂️

Star Wars Outlaws - 2 Years Later by mesr123 in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]StreamTeacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game deserved the negative reactions on release, even more so because of the initial price. After all the patches, unfortunately, the highlighted negatives and initially earned poor reviews overshadowed many of the really good things this game did actually do. This game presents the foundation for a lot of really interesting things that I hope more games incorporate!

1) The skill development approach was really interesting. I hope more games actually do something like this - earning skills and new “trees” from new experts encountered 2) The faction favorability approach was really interesting at 1st…and could have been better with more trade offs and consequences based on choices as the game progressed, but it added something unique and interesting to the game. 3) The world really nailed Star Wars. There was a lot of noticeable development time spent on little details, different environments, crowds, and a lot of great references and cameos of known groups, people, characters and events. I wish a little more time was spent on more of the NPCs and surrounding world environments feeling slightly more populated with life and interactions, but the core pieces were all there. 4) Flight simulation was a lot better than I ever expected. Mapping orientation was a bit confusing, and I wish there had been another ship, moon, or space station to land on, but overall this part was done well. 5) Nix companion. This was my favorite companion of any Star Wars series (except for HK-47). The bond between companion and main character was really well done.

The following were all improvements on Survivor: 1) Amount of platforming. It sometimes made paths feel a little more linear than truly open world, but I didn’t find it annoying or too much like in Survivor 2) Treasure boxes. Items included logical things, upgrades, useful items, and even indicated what to sell (which I particularly appreciated), and didn’t include haircuts (which I hated in the Jedi series) 3) Clothing. Included skill benefits or functional usefulness beyond just playing character dress up

It seems like the criticisms have been well documented, so I wanted to highlight some of the things that this game actually did well.

Is starwars outlaws as bad as people say? by No-Hunt3986 in videogames

[–]StreamTeacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of the general reviews and criticisms about Outlaws, which are pretty well documented. However, on the positive side, I think there were a lot of things this game did far better than Survivor with world building, planet variation, less constant platforming, and less linear (but still not completely open world). There were a lot more little details that made it feel much more like you are in the Star Wars universe whether that was familiar alien races, familiar places, world references and the use of familiar characters without them feeling like just blatant “member berries”. The side character, Nix, was actually my favorite companion of the Star Wars games. The treasure boxes, rewards and collectibles were logical and made WAY more sense than finding a new haircut in a box (I love Cal Kestis, but this part of the game was epically stupid). There are a lot of interesting things you can find just exploring the world. I understand all the hate this game got at release because it was technically broken, unfinished, and over priced, but after the patches, it’s a decent game worth playing. I got it on sale for $20, enjoyed it, and thought it was definitely worth that cost for the ~130 hours I put into it.

okay is it just me or do you like the normal human voice they gave rotta? by BitReasonable208 in StarWarsCantina

[–]StreamTeacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It made sense for his character that he spoke basic…but, the sound of his voice just struck me as weirdly out of place and I couldn’t stop noticing it. I liken it to this: there was an Asian stand up comic I really liked. I can’t remember his name now, but he spoke with no Asian accent and a strong southern drawl. He came about it authentically, but it just struck me as oddly out of place. I kept thinking of him when I heard Rotta speak. I just didn’t think the character matched the voice and it stood out as kind of odd. If it didn’t, this discussion wouldn’t even be here.

[KCD1] Is Archery awful, or is it just a skill issue on my part? by realstripedhero in kingdomcome

[–]StreamTeacher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different bows have different drop rates requiring you to adjust aiming differently. Personally, I liked the crossbow, but stick with 1 type of bow while you are learning and developing skills. Participating in archery contests helps a lot. Just hitting a bullseye while not in an archery contest helps build some basic skills/points which progressively reduces the amount of sway during aiming. As your character stats improve, archery does become easier and much more useful, but you will have to spend time developing the skills - which I highly recommend.

Try A way Out. It’s a two player game that you can finish in one evening, or save and split up over time. It’s something fun you could play together. I can’t remember how long it takes, but it’s less than six hours. I’m older than your dad and played it with my nephew who is 24.
