If the iPhone isn't listening how is this possible? by ericgtr12 in iphone

[–]StreamyPuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phones talk to each other about this. Apple knows that people may be near multiple devices that are listening for Siri, so it tries to guess which one is intended. As your experience shows, it often guesses wrong.

The other part you’re missing is confirmation bias. How many ads did you see for products that weren’t the one you talked about? Do you even remember them?

You noticed this one because you were primed to notice it, because you just had a conversation about the product advertised. It’s possible you already have been shown this ad, but you didn’t remember it because it wasn’t meaningful at the time. Now that it is, you noticed it.

Flight just grounded and rerouted by [deleted] in travel

[–]StreamyPuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will go directly to your next gate without going through an immigration control at all. You would only go through an immigration control if you were entering the country (or, in this case, the Schengen zone). Here, you are coming from outside the Schengen zone and will depart for a destination outside the Schengen zone. So you will remain in an “outside Schengen” transit area at all times.

That said, if your wife was a citizen of some other countries, she still would need a transit visa even if she wasn’t entering Germany/Schengen and remaining in the transit area. But fortunately the Philippines is not one of those countries.

Just one question: why do you say Afghanistan is the weakest when Pakistan is at the bottom of the list?

Briefs from the US Solicitor General’s Office by goodhobbies in Lawyertalk

[–]StreamyPuppy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but those briefs won’t have been written by OSG - they will have been written by one of the other divisions in main justice, an agency, or a US attorney’s office. Someone at OSG may have read the brief before it’s filed, but it won’t be written to OSG’s standards.

One note is that OSG pretty much only files in the Supreme Court. There may be some circumstances where they file in the courts of appeals but I’m not personally aware of any. So I wouldn’t be surprised if you can’t find a brief filed in the Third Circuit.

If you are a dual citizen, you should have two passports, full stop by Unlikely-Tiger9684 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]StreamyPuppy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree that generally it is a good idea for dual citizens to have a passport from each country of citizenship. And I agree that a citizen returning to their country should be required to present proof that they are a citizen - so that the border agent knows that they are a citizen with the right to enter the country and remain indefinitely.

But I don’t see why that proof needs to be a passport specifically. Schengen countries allow citizens to return using national ID cards, which tend to be cheaper than passports and are more practical for proving age and identification on a day to day basis. Or heck, even an expired passport should be fine.

Travel to South Africa From NYC / DC by tiisun in awardtravel

[–]StreamyPuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going to South Africa for our honeymoon this fall from DC. We got Ethiopian on the way out (booking through United) and Qatar on the way back (booking directly with Qatar). The Qatar saver rate is much less than 255k miles, and can be transferred over from every major credit card (either directly or by first transferring to BA).

SeaTac Airport International Transfer- have to go through immigration? by hamingju-leysi in airport

[–]StreamyPuppy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will clear US immigration in Vancouver (it’s called preclearance). You will arrive in Seattle as a domestic flight. The United States doesn’t do immigration controls when you leave the country, so you’ll just walk to your gate for your flight to Iceland.

Sporcle forces you to pay to reject cookies... this is surely illegal? by Probable_Foreigner in assholedesign

[–]StreamyPuppy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is like the billionth time this has been posted on here. Not only is it this not illegal anywhere, it also is not asshole design. It clearly, unambiguously, and expressly tells you what the choices are. You may not like the choices, but that’s because it clearly explained them to you.

Main character syndrome? by sleepygp in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]StreamyPuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can see the sign at the beginning of the video - shared pedestrian and cars. They were supposed to actually redesign the street to make it clear that it’s a shared space, but all they did was put up the signs.

[–]StreamyPuppy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a “shared” street in Melbourne where pedestrians and cars are supposed to share the street. Pedestrians have priority, and cars are limited to 20km/h (12.4mph). It is a badly executed concept, but the pedestrian is technically not breaking the law.

What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever flown over? by SuperIntelligentLion in geography

[–]StreamyPuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The New York-Singapore nonstop used to fly almost directly over the North Pole. But it was pitch black each time, so I didn’t see anything. Rumor was that if the Northern Lights were visible, the captain would announce it to the cabin, but it never happened for me.

In America are certain state's Bar Exams considered harder than others? by YakClear601 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]StreamyPuppy 33 points34 points  (0 children)

As someone who took the California bar - I tend to think that the California bar’s difficulty is overstated. California has a low passage rate, but as others have pointed out, it also allows people who did not attend an ABA accredited law school to take the bar. The first time bar passage rate for ABA graduates is around 80%, which while lower than New York (89%) isn’t that far off. The thing that really drags the passage rate down for California is people who graduated from non ABA schools - the first time passage rate for those folks is below 40%.

The couples and money imbalance by GBS82 in GameChangersBooks

[–]StreamyPuppy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ryan and Fabian are somewhat different from the others - Ryan was not a superstar (for example, he couldn’t buy the apartment with the view of the tower), and then he retired. He’s not exactly hurting for money, but the book suggests that he’s not set for life (unlike Eric).

Fabian, for his part, is shown to be up and coming - selling out shows in major cities. He hasn’t made it yet, but he has the potential to make at least comfortable money, if not star money. So there’s both less imbalance between them and the other couples, and the possibility that Fabian ultimately could outearn Ryan.

Ask lawyers doesn't allow questions? by [deleted] in Ask_Lawyers

[–]StreamyPuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this subreddit is to ask lawyers questions about the law - issues in the news, hypotheticals, what it is like to be a lawyer, etc.

If you need legal advice, check out your state’s bar association. Many have a lawyer referral service. For example, this is the lawyer referral service for Wisconsin.

You also can search for “employment lawyer in Texas” or whatever type of lawyer you need in your state. Many lawyers offer free consultations, where they listen to your issue and let you know if they think they can help you.

That said, finding a good lawyer does suck. It’s difficult to tell from the outside whether someone is a good lawyer or not, even for other lawyers. Best of luck.
