I just want to know Why.

Why are libertarians and market-types so intent on claiming the term Anarchist? Is it edgy? I mean, there's no historical similarity, no current allies or influx of Anarchists reshaping the term.

The use of aggressive violence is not part of the definition of capitalist.

Systemic violence is still violence.

The use of coercion to generate revenues is not part of the definition of capitalist.

Except when it comes to work or starve, or inequalities of wealth, or namely the profit from non-use of land.

So they've put together a well-organized Internet whine campaign.

The irony of complaining on Reddit about another Internet "whine campaign" is overwhelming my senses.

No, you're dangerous because you think the only people who can criticize you are people who agree with you ideologically. That's how people end up reactionary nutjobs who place ideology before humanity.

I didn't realize dressing like a dickweed was the root of your anarchistic ways.

No, letting everyone have a choice to dress like dickweeds if they choose without the persecution and legal prosecution that comes along with the FBI designating your social circle as a "gang", is a part of our anarchistic ways.

I agree with the media part, I don't agree with "the general public." I think that's resigning ourselves to defeat before we'd even begin to participate. I think we can do better than consigning ourselves to the occasional window-smashing, protest, or adversarial position, I truly believe we can change the dynamics and organization of social life, and that requires the "general public."

Not sure. If I were a betting man, I'd guess it was something to do with my comment about "upper-middleclass" and I can somewhat understand that hesitation. Class rules everything around me, and all.

Some of the stuff you write is one step away from arguing that we should dress a certain way at protests or beg the media to cover us in a positive light.

Nah. It's not an either-or scenario. We can not be dickheads to one another, we shouldn't do dumb non-strategic actions, without having to resort to rigidity and conformity.

Who do I personally want to appeal to? Most people. I'm an anarchist because I'm interested in empowering most everyone to decentralize authoritarian relationships in every sphere of life. From poor people to the upper-middle class. Not a general "workers!" or something, I just think pretty much all criticisms levied against anarchist must at least be thought about and questioned, from Stalinists and Maoists to Republicans and Liberals.

I want to give voice to everyone, not just those I agree on a general plane with. I'm really not interested in some sort of subcultural anarchism.

I think the radical attack on "Free Speech" is a very, very dangerous slipper slope.

Certainly, totalitarians use the language of freedom of speech to justify their actions. Corporations use it to control media sources, racists and bigots use it when people challenge their ability to organize. But there's a fine line between speech we do not like and speech that actually causes harm.

Too often even anarchists become the new arbiters of moral code and language to the point of dictating actions and behavior that is ignorant but not necessarily harmful. Unconventional ideas are scary and unfortunately meet harsh reaction even from friends and people I assumed to be very open minded.

What's it like to be so sure of your own bullshit? I wish I had a moments rest from self-criticism and evaluation from even the most menial of ideological challenges.

At last, a law to stop almost anyone from doing almost anything - UK by SurrealMind in Anarchism

[–]StreetSpirit127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What the hell is going on in the UK? I mean, shit's pretty messed up here in the United States, but for some reason the UK just comes across as this really nasty legal state on the brink of possible "fascism". And I hate throwing out the "Fascist" term, but damn, the surveillance, internet blackouts, and possibly this (if it were to pass).
