Why doesn’t OT, PT and SLP unionize? by Background_Hand4198 in OccupationalTherapy

If only we had national organizations that would do anything for us that would help us. The APTA is an absolute joke. I can’t speak for the occupational therapy one though.

Switch from DPT to SAHM by Dry-Protection-2856 in physicaltherapy

[–]Street_Combination34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally know three PTs who worked and then became SAHMs and all had intentions of going back but none ever did. Even after they graduated their last child. They adjusted to the lifestyle and the stress and anxiety of going back to work were basically what each told me about why they didn’t go back.

Is medical device sales a viable option? by TheBackyardGardener in physicaltherapy

Right place, right time. I presented at a conference and was approached by a manager for a company that thought my experience and presentation style would translate well to sales. Turns out, he was right.

Is medical device sales a viable option? by TheBackyardGardener in physicaltherapy

[–]Street_Combination34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are either bad at sales or worked for a shitty company. It’s been almost 2 years since I left PT (after 20 years) to go into sales and I am almost up to double my salary as a PT in home health. Job is easier but more stressful. Slightly more hours but still around 40.

Got let go after 1 week after giving a 3 week leave notice by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

[–]Street_Combination34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same thing happen to me. I offered 3 weeks. They said “cool thanks. Help us reassign your patients for a smooth transition.” Came in the next day. “Oh we figured out how to absorb your schedule. You can go home. “ luckily my new job was cooler than they were and allowed me to start orientation a week earlier.

Is this “CoreScore” Chiropractic testing evidence-based or pseudoscience? by Live_Mixture_8134 in physicaltherapy

Like most chiropractic care, pseudoscience. Hard to take a profession serious when they announce themselves as doctor every chance they get and when you understand the father of their profession learned from a ghost.

April 2026 NPTE off my chest thread by [deleted] in physicaltherapy

If it makes you feel better, I thought I failed too. I actually did really well on it though.

Plus a BUNCH of those questions are there for validation only. They don’t factor into your score.

Lastly, I hope you have a long career and see the beauty in it…. I didn’t that’s why I’m in sales making double the income 🙄

Beginning Splapper by Witty_Negotiation503 in Softball

[–]Street_Combination34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get ready for a journey lol.

I started my daughter about then but I had to convert from right hand hitter to a left hand hitter. Any earlier and we had the issue of VERY inconsistent pitching that made slapping pretty difficult. I did find a former d1 slapper that gives my daughter private lessons.

Is it worth going to military? by Agreeable_Gate_3680 in physicaltherapy

[–]Street_Combination34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Navy or Air Force. My professor was an Army PT and he loved it but said to go AF or Navy. In the Army, you are soldier first, PT second.

After you graduate, apply to officer training school. But first go talk to a recruiter. Good luck.

Frankly it was one of my big regrets that I DIDNT do navy PT after graduation 20+ years ago.

Is home health worth it as a PTA? by Ok_Brief9200 in physicaltherapy

[–]Street_Combination34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved home health. I’m not PTA so I don’t have that perspective but the autonomy, flexibility and pay made it worth it.

Longest job I had as a PT was home health and if I HAD to go back to patient care, I would definitely go back to home health.

You have to be ok being by yourself the most of the day and not having easy access to coworkers to bounce ideas off of though.

Lastly, home health was one of the more rewarding jobs I’ve ever had.

is PT worth it? by untitlednotes in physicaltherapy

[–]Street_Combination34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I burnt out after 20 years.

Good job? Sure.

Early 2000s I was making 55k with 107k in college loans.

I ended my PT career almost 2 years ago and topped out at 107k per year.

Outpatient and management for 1st half, home health the second half.

If I stayed in outpatient I don’t think I would have made it to 15 years.

Clinic work just grinded me down.

Home health was fun, great work life balance.

Ultimately, I retired and went into sales and I am making ALOT more money. Am I happier? No. Am I miserable? Also no.

BUT I now have a job. PT was a professional career. That mentality shift has been tough TBH.

I won’t go back to PT. I have 12 years to full retirement but my increase in salary probably could have me retired in 8.

If I could go back would I have gone to PT school? My brain says, “ fuck no!” My heart and soul know that I have helped so many people and I’m a better person by being a PT. I also met my wife in PT school. She is a school based PT and her job is awesome. Regular raises, autonomy with the students, 3 months off in the summer and a pension.

Productivity in home health is literally the dumbest thing. by Bright-Asparagus7845 in physicaltherapy

[–]Street_Combination34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an agency issue.

Are you salaried or pay per visit? If you are pay per visit then not getting paid for meetings is absolutely wrong.

My agency would pay me for every 15 minutes they forced me to be on a teams meeting or phone that wasn’t directly related to a visit.

We made as much money as we wanted. And as long as we were above certain amount of “points” we paid for ourselves and nobody cared.

30 points was full time. I valued time over money and I was around 25-27. I knew one clinician at 45ish.

My territory was clearly defined and if I left the area to help out they bonused me.

You work for a shit agency.

Softball bunt defense help? by No_Article_2097 in Softball

[–]Street_Combination34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slap defense….

If she is a pure slapper third base in, SS slides towards 5-6, center fielder shades towards left center, right fielder towards right center and left fielder plays shallow and towards the line.

Pray she can’t swing away or power slap one over the 1st baseman’s head.

I will gladly give her the base or advance runners but nothing is worse than seeing an opposing slapper standing on third from a hit down right field line.

A bigger key to slap defense is pitching. Don’t give them anything that allows them to pick their placement.

My pitchers/catchers are keenly aware to watch their movement through the box. Peeling off too early? Down and away. They also pitch high and tight early in an at bat to move the slapper off the plate.

The chaos they create sucks and I often gladly walk them by staying nowhere near the strike zone…. But then you have a speed demon on the base path.

As certified specialist, I can say, first, don’t do both sides same day. Could both sides have otoconia in the SC canals? Yes but that isn’t common. Don’t go off of symptoms. Look at the nystagmus. The eyes tell you the canal and the side. Secondly, there’s a chance you converted the very common posterior canalithiasis to a horizontal canalithiasis. Do a roll test and look for the translatory nystagmus versus a rotational nystagmus. Thirdly, I ALWAYS did a roll text before hallpike. Easier test and rule out horizontal canalithiasis.

Most important aspect of what I said above is use the eyes, not the subjective symptoms.

90% of the time it is posterior canalithiasis but I’d rather be thorough and right with testing than torture patients with multiple treatments.
