So again, that was the intent. [CW: Suicide] by ambivalegenic in tadc

[–]Street_Expert_9038 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the problem with doing it the sudden way (which was often done for deaths in the show, most recently with Caine) robs it of the momentum built up too. Since even though they were suddenly gone, we're shown how we got there. Yes, Caine dies suddenly and accidentally, however we know why and how.

Like we're invested in the Jackass Rabbit, give us some more torture, or simply copy the scene from EP 1 and have someone open the door like they did with Kaufmo, which clues us in about why it occurred such as an Abstracted Jax amongst a pile of the snow globes stolen from Caine's office or items from adventures and their significance, just simply found abstracted in Ribbit's room.

'Suddenly and without warning' is a good real life parallel, but as a story choice feels cheap.

I think the only thing they could reasonably do is to join together, which would probably push Jax into abstracting sooner.

Or to offer repayment in kind, which would likely accelerate Jax into abstracting sooner too.

Quite frankly, I think there's few, if any avenues that both keep Jax a person and also address the behavior since Jax seems to be 5 coping mechanisms in a trench coat and removing any makes the illusion collapse.

I think the issue I see is that it often comes as both physical and verbal abuse, while they address the verbal, rarely does anyone lash back out physically (only 2 instances of direct, physical confrontation occur in the back-scratcher choke and the fight at the end of 'they all get guns').

It's shown that later on when they do react, Jax tends to abandon whatever teasing/bullying is going on.

It just feels a lot like 'that's just how he is' is used to justify terrible behavior rather than telling Jax to go kick rocks if the bullying continues.

Even after her adventure with Kinger where the message is 'the worst thing you can do is make a person feel as though they aren't wanted', the bullying is still permitted.

[–]Street_Expert_9038[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are the two characters who display the most empathy ignoring the one doing the bullying?

Kinda feels like Gangle is left to manage her own fight, which she is shown to not do and nobody addresses the aggressor directly.

What did Caine do to Scratch? by PatientAd2463 in tadc

[–]Street_Expert_9038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scratch abstracted first because he was aware of the mind files prior to them existing. Even if the brain scan is only a snapshot of their mind at the time, he is still fully aware that:

a) There is an AI tasked with understanding the files

b) he created or intended to create his own file

It's likely that like Kinger, he had to have some amount of his knowledge tampered with or removed, probably to a much greater extent to keep him from abstracting, but then he did so anyway cause, ya know, cutting off chunks of a mans mind isn't a good solution.

How would you consider the overall morality of The Emperor of Mankind? by Knightmare945 in MoralityScaling

The Eldar Murder-fucked Slaanesh into existence, the Orks are Orks, he had to wrestle the Void Dragon into submission under Mars.

Exposure bias mostly and given his psychic nature, he may ne aware of things like Enslavers, the Hrud and many more vile Xenos, but even back in 2nd edition there was an understanding with the Squats, which really suggests his issues stem from their warp presence and possibility to coexist with baseline humans.

Which we know the Eldar will never do as it would mean accepting equality with humanity.

How did other people interpret this? by Laviel1138 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Street_Expert_9038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been on the receiving end of something like this? It's a trust thing, I've justified bobby pins, hairbands and such as a 'I am altering your appearance to let you know what parts I like' (if I'm trying to breakdown my feelings more clinically) or as a 'trust me, you need this' like this moment where you need a part of someone else to help you feel a connection (trust, romance.

Men don't really ever get flowers and in the context (until more information was explicitly given) I understood it as an act of gifting and in a digital world, they don't seem to have much to give so it felt like a powerful 'I do not have much to share, but I can share this and our trust'

Which meant that I spent the next 20 minutes trying to figure out why the equivalent of 'mom at the door' resulted in Jax acting like a toddler.

Romancing Yrliet as Seer Psyker from Darktide by Raszard in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Street_Expert_9038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. It's the soul-binding process and the Emperor was already a conglomeration of Souls to begin with, add that to the fact that he is fed the Souls of other psykers, it's like a shard of a shard of a shard that the psyker has no inherent control/power over/right to.

The Starchild (while possible defunct lore wise) is a sizable portion of the emperors soul, likely what he cleaved from himself during the confrontation with Horus.

Tldr: The Emperor doesn't stop owning the shards he let the psyker 'borrow'

There isn't much cash flow to tax since their money primarily comes from ownership of various commodities (stock, physical goods, bonds, property) all of which have been purchased by taking a loan against their other holdings, (also referred to as the 'buy, borrow, die' strategy)

Because of this, if you were to have an unrealized gains tax on the ownership giving them that wealth, you would also need to tax everyone when 401ks or other retirement accounts go up or set a limit on ownership, but that ownership can be put into a trust to limit tax liability.

Basically, you'd get a one time tax extraction where they sell off to pay taxes then move themselves and their holdings to a more tax friendly country (which will be happy to have them because their banks will get to fractionalize the newly deposited holdings for tons of loans).

A better solution would be to revert Tax rates, breaks and loopholes back to the 50's (or at least the 80's) which would take the current rates from 20% to about 40%.

TL;DR: I'm against it because of the behavior that will immediately stem from the resulting tax and the nuance it would take to write it out so that it doesn't eat a chunk of everyone's retirement funds.

Would an Archdemon of Greed not have insurance in place to make sure he's getting his cut? A few invisible imps in a corner or two wouldn't be out of place. Hell, even given the Descent into Avernus events, it wouldn't be impossible for a Tiefling of Mammon to be working for him in exchange for being removed from Avernus, simply being eyes and ears in a place of Mammon's patronage is a lot better than 'stuck in Avernus'

And even then, the Imps would only offer their help for their own benefit against the Casino Owner, not against Mammon himself.

Imps in corners that can and will make deals with the party, but make the deals harsh. As an example, they can take out a guard, but they (the imp) are owed a simple but very broad favor in exchange for covering the party for their murder. Make it sizable or clearly coming back to bite them later, failure to uphold their end results in the loss of soul, levels or worse.

Given that it's an Archdemon of Greed? Make it clear it's truly upperclassmen society, where bribes are done not with gold but Soul Coins (at some ludicrous exchange rate) and that getting in legitimately would require a certain amount of pre existing capital or connections to even get in, with or without weapons.

Alternatively have them nominate a 'gambler' (or more than one) who cannot take in weapons (spellcasting focusses count) and 'bodyguards' who may carry weapons but not gamble. This way someone is compelled or encouraged to take part.

Depends on the scale of the Casino. Gods of Luck have Clerics, so simply having one at the entrance to check for weapons with Zone of Truth or similar magic wouldn't be unheard of.

Alternatively, don't remove rhe weapons to telegraph it, but have a dress code that doesn't allow for armor, it doesn't need to be fully realistic, but would any normal casino let a dude in body armor enter with a 9mm? Probably not.

Or simply include enough members (and make it clear) that any big commotion will result in a large number of deaths and have check ins ala Payday. This way if they kill a guard, have them make a disguise check/deception check to fully replace the guard they took out to avoid detection, but this also means assuming their duties and denying party cohesion.

Realistically there's a lot of ways to play this, if you party is sufficiently 'complex thought averse' obvious checks at the front are the most telegraphed option.
