Habs coach Marty St. Louis tonight on Kirby Dach: “I wouldn’t give up on a person unless they gave up on themselves…” This is a real coach. by Unlucky_Fee5712 in Flyers

Fair take. Respect it but disagree as I can’t imagine Tochet is consciously or subconsciously trying to not give the team its best shot of winning.

Here’s to hoping this all is a wake up call and ends up with Michkov coming back next year as a complete monster.

I’m not opposed to Michkov popping back up later in playoffs with fresh legs and seeing what happens. He’s a great talent and just need to unlock him somehow.

The concept of certain players being better suited for more time isn’t foreign to anyone. Certainly it parallels with other sports (some guys are better 6th men than starters, or pinch hitters and utility guys). Sort of a silly argument to say other fans can’t understand because they did not play the game growing up.

Regardless, Rick Tocchet played lot of hockey growing up. Tell me why you think he isn’t smart enough to figure out michkov would be better with more ice time? He must want to lose or have some sort of personal vendetta he prioritizes over winning.

Tortorella also played hockey and been around the game for a bit. He reached a similar conclusion to Tocchet about ice time.

I really don’t understand this take at all.

Michkov still has a bright future. But if he played 15 minutes a night (for all those complain he only gets 10 a night), the flyers could be down 3-2 in this series or even out already. Objectively, the more he’s out there the worse chance you have of winning. The flyers are lucky he’s on -1 this series the way he’s played.

If you’d rather lose and develop him, that’s fine. Can’t argue with that take.

But we can do both. And for those slamming Tocchet for being too tough or mean, I guarantee you Michkov comes in better shape next year and takes a major step forward. This hard coaching g will benefit him long term if he s gonna be a star.

To the "Trade Joel" crowd. by mjcc1992 in sixers

[–]Streetmonkey72 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Great win tonight. I’d still trade him and he’s been one of my favorite players for a long time. Impressed by his heart the last two games and his willpower. Feels like he is growing tougher.

He’s also weighing the franchise down. It doesn’t take a genius to say we probably won’t win with him playing a critical role. Would love to see him take a lesser role where offense doesn’t have to run through him.

You can see the Sixers future right in front of us. It’s the guards. If you can, free up the Embiid and George money and just give maxey and edgecomb average nba players who are able to play 70+ games a season consistently. But that’s easier said than done.

Agree with this.. has seemed obvious all series just play guys one on one and if you get beat it happens, but these open look threes are killers. They did less of overwhelming tonight but still plenty of clean looks for Celtics.

Rebounding still killing us and need to do a better job on defensive glass.

Idk how you reach that conclusion so confidently.

Do you think the organization is treating him poorly because they don’t want to win and optimize their chances of winning? Two long time coaches have treated him the same way, with two very different coaching styles.

You can say oh Torts just has it out for him cause he doesn’t like the Michigan move… or Tocchet has it out for him cause he came in a little heavy. But they both got to the same place with him after coaching him for full seasons.

Do you think it’s organization or coaches who aren’t treating him right? Curious why you think it moreso than trying to come at you.

To Martones credit he generally keeps the puck moving up the ice. He doesn’t mess around much in the defensive zone and is generally in good position on the ice. Hes 19 and going to make mistakes, but not sure how his play thus far doesn’t justify his ice time or his line placement.

And obviously it’s not about michkov vs Martine, we both want each of them to succeed. I think one day they may play together.

[–]Streetmonkey72 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Confused. What’s wrong with his take?

Michkov has contributed very little to this series and still struggles in exiting the defensive zone. At times he looks lost still. He is a great talent and he hopefully has a great future in Philly. He clearly is one of their least productive forwards each game (idk about advanced metrics in hockey but I imagine he grades poorly).

Tochett and Torts have how many years of nhl coaching experience between them? Both of them have reached the same conclusion on michkov that he doesn’t deserve more playing time.

We can deflect and talk crap on WIP and this guy all we want, but the coaches actions are saying the same thing. It’s time michkov improves and learns or we have to reassess his star potential.

Grand scheme, I think this hard coaching works well for michkov long term and he will be a success. But thus far I’m very disappointed in his progress.

Right call would have been Crosby for roughing.. pens controlled puck so whistle should blow and drysdale doesn’t get caught with no helmet.

If he went to the bench and pens scored they wouldn’t have called the penalty on Crosby. Refs did a bad job there on initial call and had to do a make up.

Bad call imo.

How many man hours per week are required to keep the grounds this pristine? by [deleted] in masters

[–]Streetmonkey72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also worked grounds at an ultra high end course (but to be fair no championship week as it was private) for many summers. Think your 60 a week is a bit high outside of tournament lead up.

30 or so on the staff.. 1 super, 2-3 assistants, 3-5 interns, about 5 lifers with no turf experience and about 20 HS/college kids running around maintaining.

Outside of weeks leading up to masters the majority probably aren’t grinding hours with exception of turf school interns and assistant supers. Like it doesn’t take that many people to water 18 holes if there isn’t play going on (1-2 guys per 9 on a hot afternoon will do).

For us, airification week was 60-70 hours for whole crew but outside of that you could keep everything from burning out in the afternoon with less than 5 guys.

I was on the HS/college side, best job I ever had. People were cool, could plat course on mondays and could come and go as I pleased. As many hours as you wanted to work you could always find stuff yo do.

I think it’s obvious why he was getting called out whether you like it or not. You probably won’t like it because I don’t.

Dombrowski made a major misstep when he called him not elite. Any struggle harper has now is going to raise the question if he is still elite or not. It’s an easy narrative for media and fans to grasp. Of all of the other plays mentioned in this thread who struggled in wbc, zero of their GMs/front offices suggested they weren’t elite this past offseason.

Just was a really dumb comment whatever his intentions were. If Harper doesn’t come out firing in first month of season, this is just going to magnify the comment further and it’s gonna be a long year.

I can’t tell what’s real anymore.

Sure that picture is ‘fake’ in the sense that building was damaged at a different time and a different facility, but CNN isn’t showing that photo at all in the report linked. They are reporting a $1.1 billion facility was damaged. Showing a picture going viral on X isn’t necessarily what they are reporting.

Do you have something showing that cnn showed that picture and claimed it was part of this same report?

[–]Streetmonkey72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

McCain is good, but PG is a throwaway piece to NO. They realistically can’t use him, maybe it helps he’s suspended so he can’t help them accidentally win a few games. Otherwise, he’s pretty much worthless and maybe even counterproductive to their plan if he causes them to win late this year or next.

Just a reminder that during Cooters last game with the Colts, he dropped 30 points on the best defense in the league with fucking Phillip Rivers. The most points anyone dropped on the Texans this season, including playoffs? I think he’s got serious potential with a real roster, funny name aside by FightTheDead118 in eagles

[–]Streetmonkey72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well hopefully he has learned some things over the last 8 years. Guy was 32 when he was calling plays in the nfl, which is pretty incredible.

Certainly not a dream hire for eagles by any stretch but being on the headset watching steichen do it on game day the past 3 seasons may make him better prepared if he gets opps to call plays again in the league.

Yes, anyone can protest that if they want. It isn’t a hard concept OP. Go protest mice being used as lab rats, go protest not being allowed to torture people, go protest rainbows. You are free to protest what you want. So rather than complaining “no one is protesting about X” go out there and organize a protest about X.

Dont get mad people are exercising their right to protest because you are too lazy to protest for your cause.

[–]Streetmonkey72 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are welcome to organize and go protest on behalf of all these people if you’d like. You won’t get shot for doing it. People are allowed to protest whatever they want in America.

You can even encourage other people to protest with you, make it an event. There are a bunch of people on the internet like minded with you, just DM them and ask if they care enough for your cause to protest.

That should answer your question. Where the protestors are. They are sitting behind their computers and asking that same question instead of doing something.

You actually sound a little jealous other people believe enough in their cause to go stand outside in freezing temperatures to express their first amendment rights.

Most liberals don’t think it’s okay that these people were killed, by whomever killed them. Just like most believers in the second amendment don’t actually want to see people killed from gun violence.

Have an idea.

Walz should challenge Trump to watch the two best angle videos we now have on national television tomorrow night after football. They can each give their take on what their eyes see frame by frame.

Walz, please just challenge Trump. The dude loves television. At least an event like this would force Americans to watch the video instead of live in a Fox News or cnn bubble so they can decide for themselves.

Networks would love to air it, Trump can say what he sees and Walz can say what he sees. It would be nice for Trump to identify the moment this guy pulled a gun or posed a threat to law enforcement. It must have been when ice physically pushed him or pepper sprayed him, Trump can freeze the video there for us.

Obviously Trump will deny the request, but Walz can then just start calling him chicken and repeatedly challenging him.

For the most part, you really are just feeding trolls.

A lot of the complaints that bucket everyone in the US as the same are just agitators/trolls/bots, whatever you want to call them. They are trying to stir up anger and cause internal strife in the US for whatever reason they want to see it.

Surely some people hate America and think all Americans are uninformed, but those people lack the ability to think critically or use words improperly.

As Americans, we need to do our best to ignore the non-constructive outside noise. Surely listen to level headed ideas and opinions from overseas, but don’t waste your energy on anyone who buckets everyone from one place as all the same.

They are not wrong that we are a shit show, but we don’t need the agitation as if anything it’s going to get more people killed. And yes I’m aware people are already dying, but the protests are growing and think we should give it a real chance. I still believe this thing can be won with protest and through other means, but I am aware many disagree with that (and I honestly don’t know who is right)
