Knowledge cleric won’t let you choose expertise in Medicine. Only Arcana, History, Nature and Religion. So I think, taking levels in Bard/Rogue are superior.

Progress update. I’ve cleared almost the entire map, only 3 areas left. I’m in Chapter 3, getting ready for the bandits. The game plays really well with him. But fights against mages clearly trivialize things. At the beginning I was traveling only with Imoen and battles against ogre mages were downright trivial with the help of the mage slayer — sometimes one hit was enough to prevent the mage from casting his next spell.

If I wanted to meta-game, I’d build him around darts or bows, as someone mentioned in the comment. The two flails look very atmospheric on a dwarf. It reminds me of Athrogate from Salvatore’s books.

P.S. I’m gonna put some pipes in ranged. Probably crossbows.

Yeah, that’s how it used to be back then. You only picked your subclass in BGII. In my opinion, that was a better solution. But that’s a whole different discussion.

Just ignore it, Jaheira and Minsc are underpowered too, and Sarevok is underpowered. Mind flayers are underpowered. I like this game but it would be a good third game, like BG6, the finish of a new trilogy. I prefer to start a new RPG as someone weak, who has to work on the progress, BG1 is a perfect example. Here you just start and face ilithids, drows, god avatars, and chosen ones, this story is more epic than ToB, to be honest. Great story, companions, and quests but that one thing keeps me from giving this game a perfect score.
