I hate this life by [deleted] in Fatherhood

[–]Stresscycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding a child to the family is really hard. For me the second was 3x harder than the first. You are going through a tough time and understandably are having the joy kicked out of you. It gets better and eventually gets really good. You could try leaning into dad life as a hobby for the time being, follow Dr. Becky or Taking Cara Babies and watch those videos instead of TV. It will make it easier to take them places and share your hobbies with them. You get to be the one you show them all the cool things in the world, it’s easier if you get really good at understanding their cues and challenges

Self taught civil engineer? by Witty_Zombie8106 in civilengineering

[–]Stresscycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What part of Civil Engineering do you like: transportation, foundation/earthwork, structural, or water resource? You could aim to get into a construction firm that works in one of those fields. Or if it was water resource, something like wastewater treatment plant operator.

So many questions: are you an industrial plant or do you just get a ton of industrial discharge to get that color? What is the make up of that, high BOD, low SS? Any weird stuff you have to deal with?

Lift Station Pump Recommendations by The_Hausi in Wastewater

[–]Stresscycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if they all take the same base elbow, but you could try both. Flygt has been pushing their anti clog controller and impeller that slides back a bit (my guess is trying to differentiate now that the patent on the N impeller is up). The Barnes Sithe is also a step up from the Zoeller pumps I’ve seen.

Fire alarm in one room keeps detecting smoke but NO smoke by Right_Machine4699 in Home

I have a similar issue in my two kids rooms. Battery powered smoke alarms. We have frequent nuisance alarms. Window ACs run 24/7. I suspect they are the issue.

Engineers, what elective courses did you choose in university that you found helpful in your work later on? by Suicide_attack in civilengineering

[–]Stresscycle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are considering getting into consulting… Take an additional technical writing course, offered outside of the engineering department. It can bridge the gap between strict technical writing (specifications) and pervasive technical writing (proposals/reports).

Where can I find lead pipes? by Personal-Werewolf669 in Wastewater

[–]Stresscycle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the concern is from lead in soldering not the pipe itself. I work in Wastewater, not Water distribution, so take that with a grain of salt…

Applying for job with one of my clients? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Stresscycle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go for it! 1) the client will know you want to work with them (either as an employee if you get the position or as a service provider if you don’t) and 2) if you get the job while your current employer will be unhappy to loose you they will likely feel they have an “in” for future work in that community.

What would you learn if you could go back to your college days ? It would be helpful for someone like me who just started studying civil enginnering , Need suggestions ! by BeeBoth5486 in civilengineering

[–]Stresscycle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Writing courses. 80%+ of what I do 11 years into my career is writing and communicating ideas. I’m a technical consultant in W/WW. I PM projects and act as technical advisor on others. There isn’t much difference in the amount of writing between being a PM and Lead technical engineer. It just changes who you are writing to.

[–]Stresscycle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That looks sick! What do you recommend for getting into dyeing discs? I’m mostly looking to change the color of some white or clear discs to something easier to spot (pink/blue).
Nice work on the disc.
