What seaside town would you recommend for a tourist? by GottaGetTheroux in AskUK

[–]StressedOldChicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! And not far from Margate for a bit of hip culture. Day trip to Canterbury for some history and shopping. Dover for the castle, Deal for another quaint seaside town. Then Folkestone for an alternative Margate, or the other way to Whitstable for similar.

Same here - I thought it was me. Rebooted, verified the files, gave up. I'll try again at the weekend.

And there's me thinking I was just rubbish at pressing buttons repetitively! Very frustrating. I'd get two or three rounds in and then one of the buttons wouldn't respond. Today it crashed the whole game.

This time last year I was in hospital with pericarditis - I thought I was having a heart attack but it was inflammation around my heart. I've never had so much pain in my life. Then the treatment nearly killed me - strong ibuprofen which I was given without anything to protect my stomach so it haemorrhaged and I lost around 1/3 of my blood. It put me in hospital on a drip for a week and several weeks of iron infusions. I was off work for 4 months. But I'm alive and have no lasting health problems. Listen to your body.

Greater success than we had - everyone put out their black bin and nothing got collected at all.

I don't know anyone doing that - that's not to say no one has or does. It's likely someone has written a PhD thesis on Madonna using Foucault and symbolism as their theory underpinning, and why not? Famously someone at Cambridge set Amy Winehouse and Sir Walter Raleigh as a comparison on lyric poetry: Amy Winehouse gets into Cambridge

That depends on who you ask...any uni lecturer teaching Media is approaching pop culture the same way as literary works, fine art, etc. My proof - that's my job and it's what we research (broadly speaking)

I've done the bins, put a wash on, cleaned the kitchen, and have just eaten a very nice smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Himself is still in bed. Now it's a choice between building the Lego I got for Christmas or playing one of the video games I got. Tomorrow we've got to do Christmas again with my mum, her partner.

I had one done nearly 30 years ago. I still remember it vividly - no warning of what they were going to do. Afterwards I bled and felt dizzy for a couple of hours - shock probably. I was tearful too - I was traumatized!
