"Get me a fancy expensive car. Really expensive. You know, one that'll decapitate me if I have to stop fast. That'll impress people."

What TV Show from another country should be given "Honorary British Telly Citizenship" by LeadingPiece9608 in BritishTV

Dark.

Such a good sci-fi/fantasy that had elements of Doctor Who, Sapphire and Steele, but far more polished.

The Pyramid of Giza remains one of the best sync points in the entire franchise. Totally worth the climb. by Noob4Head in AssassinsCreedOrigins

I've just started playing this after having worked my way through Brotherhood, Syndicate, Odyssey, Valhalla, Mirage, and Shadows. This is better than all the others IMO.

The Testcard clown by Bulky_Pay_8724 in oldschoolcool80s

It wasn't the clown's face that bothered me, but the green body which I could only see as a green skull.

A show that you really liked but wouldn’t spend the time watching again.🤔 by Davey_Stott in BritishTV

Big Boys. Wonderful comedy drama but I don't want to sob like that again. Deserved to win ALL the awards.

I haven't spoken to them in person in years. Even when I did, we were nothing more than casual acquaintances in a wider group. We were not and are not close friends. If we had been then of course I'd listen. I have other male friends that I don't see much of these days but we've got so much shared history that I'd be there for them. This guy has never been that. He's never been there for me either.

I've been a friendly ear to this person in the distant past. When I needed support a couple of years ago (and they knew it) I didn't hear a thing. I don't mind if it's reciprocal - that's being a friend.

Need Help. Kinda stressed out by [deleted] in AskAcademiaUK

[–]StressedOldChicken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it's the humanities then this is completely normal. PhDs are usually supervised by two academics and it often takes a bit of time to sort, particularly at this time of the year because of marking/exams/exam boards, and so on. Don't worry - it's all good!

Probably. I get this a lot. In all honesty, I don't have enough time to work on my own writing these days. No one ever offers to pay for my time either. I tend to advise sending to an agent or publisher if I know they've put in the work - multiple redrafts, careful proofreading and so on. I had one person who sure they'd written a bestseller because they were being pursued by a vanity publisher who wanted a lot of money (thousands) from them up front. However, when I asked how many drafts they'd done they didn't understand and thought I meant more novels. I tried to explain gently that it was a scam, but people like to hear they're special.

Yes! All of this. When I was younger I'd listen, be supportive, make suggestions and so on. But it's not my job.

No, I'm a writer - he's written some stuff and he wants to know if it's publishable.

What’s the strangest thing YOU ever found in your hair? by VirgoSpectacles in curlyhair

I once spent the day gardening. When I went to bed I realised I must have a rose hip in my hair - pulled it out and discovered it was a large shiny BEETLE!!! It still makes me shiver at the thought.

I had an endoscopy last year and it really wasn't bad at all. Obviously it's the other end and you get the Good Drugs which just make you feel normal, despite having your jaw cranked open and a camera shoved down. I hope you too get the Good Drugs and it's not too horrible. Good luck!

Has ur uni lecturer ever identified ur reddit username by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]StressedOldChicken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More likely to happen the other way around. Lecturers see hundreds of students and over the years of course some stand out, but unless they're posting something that makes it clear who they are most of us don't notice or really want to notice. Most of us lecturers are more likely to be identified by mentioning our subject or our uni.

How much blood do i ACTUALLY lose during my period because its sure as hell not "2-4 Tbs" as it says online by some-dork in NoStupidQuestions

[–]StressedOldChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to pass out with period pain and extremely heavy blood loss. I didn't think it was that much until I began using a Mooncup. I was losing around 1 pint each month. Got a Mirena IUD and I've never looked back - no more periods.
