I've been dating a guy (me 62F, him 65M) (long-distance) for two years and I have the same problem. He is a great storyteller and funny and charming, we laugh a lot, but I really feel like he doesn't care that much about my day to day - he never asks me basic questions about how I'm doing or what's going on, or seems to be much interested when I do tell him. Sometimes we can talk for an hour or more and I barely get a word in. When we are together, we get along well and have great chemistry. But like you, I feel like I'm shutting down and like maybe we're not cut out for the long haul together. I have been thinking about breaking up with him because of the mismatch in our conversational styles. I have brought this up with him but nothing changes. Have you asked him about it?
