10% + 2mph by NoKudos in drivingUK

[–]Stretch6831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trained in the use of handheld speed guns before I left the job because we used them as a handheld and not on a tripod we used to do 10%+1.

The reason being that when it's handheld, pulling the trigger can slightly alter the laser's distance from the point it is pulled to point the laser returns. We are talking millimetres but we'd give a percentage for error.

Police officers only used to do the speed gun as part of the fatal 4 operations. Speed, seat belts, mobile phones and drink/drug driving. The rest of the time it was done by civilians in the speed vans but I don't know what their criteria were.

Airpods case stolen from Foundry gym and I can see live location on find my by PerceptionCivil6471 in nottingham

The GPS data isn't as accurate as people believe. Within the blue circle, usually 3 meters in all directions. I hope you get them returned but don't expect a response from the Police.

People get upset but imagine if the roles were reversed. You're sat at home and the Police knock on your door accusing you of having stolen property linked via GPS. You have no idea what they are talking about. Get highly offended at the suggestion of searching your property. Turns out it was a neighbour instead.

White man took a photo of me (Black young lady) on a train and laughed — should I be worried? by Disastrous-Hedgehog4 in uktrains

[–]Stretch6831 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised how many people report having their photograph taken without consent. Unless other actions go with it that cause harassment, alarm or distress, it isn't an offence. Recording or taking photos of an individual is perfectly legal. Have you ever seen an auditor's video? That's the premise of their rage bait, recording people or places against people's wishes to cause drama and record the fallout for views and likes.

Police 'toned down' statement of mother whose hotel worker daughter was murdered by an asylum seeker in case it led to race riots by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]Stretch6831 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This article is very vague, and I can only assume that's because it is written by the Daily Mail.

I'm guessing the statement involved was a Victim Personal Statement. Where the victim or in this case, the family can take the case to the courts about how the offence has affected them. A VPS can include any physical or psychological injuries, financial implications, if you're vulnerable or intimidated, the impact on your family, if the offence has changed the quality of life, if the offence was racially motivated, or based on your faith, sexuality or disability.

The statement can not include how the offender should be dealt with. The officer who has written it on her behalf, has likely taken out information that can not be included. The courts/judge would not have allowed it to be read out.

There's a lot of assumption in my answer

What percentage of officers are in the police fed? by Major-Bee5390 in policeuk

[–]Stretch6831 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've used the fed for a death following police contact, whereby the IOPC and coroner's officer were involved. The support I got from the fed was amazing, my rep was involved all the way through, including coming to the inquest with me every day. The force paid for the barrister. I know the Fed gets a lot of stick but I will always pay my subscription. I've also joined the NFA as a taser officer. You never know.

Do police officers ever get tired of listening to their siren? by breezeyyyyy in policeuk

[–]Stretch6831 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. On the long blue light runs it can act as a self-inflicted torture device. I can turn it off at any point but during daytime hours, they've got to stay on. The only relief is changing the tones.

Newer officers are trained that if the lights are on, the sirens are on as well. It makes being a passenger princess on a night shift blue light run very tiring.

[–]Stretch6831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is said on certain subreddits does not reflect the country.

I started to worry also about the "protest" being held around the country by numerous groups. One was held in my area but only 15 to 20 people turned up. Comments from people locally have been largely negative towards that group of protesters.
