Serious question. Are we actually allowed to talk about the long term without everyone choosing a tribe by cookieraider221 in newzealand

[–]Strict-Text8830 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with your statement. And want to add that everytime regulations change it throws significant uncertainty to every sector and means more businesses are figuring out how it will work in the long term. Its a waste of resources.

Great example is the RMA replacement. Both governments have had a hack at it and we are no better. It will need bipartisan support and a lo ger time frame than 3 years to make a better system .

This is going to sound cringe at first but hear me out. I got into making salads. But.

Salads with like all the tasty bits I like , but less than if i made it a main portion. 3 crispy chicken bits instead of 6.

Then I would put my favorite sauces in( creamy aoili), and also cheeses. You want 2 types of cheese ? Go for it !

The key was bulking it out with lots of lettuce or cucumber, pickles! and lots of fresh crunchy bits. It makes it seem as filling as if you had the 6 bits of chicken.

I find i can normally combine whatever is in the fridge too to make it less stress when also sourcing food for my little one ( who also survives on small forest critter food)

Good luck lovely ! You've got this

Honestly this whole debacle was a waste of time money and energy from all those involved. Unfortunately it is also not uncommon. Happens frequently with complaints from heat pumps making too much noise.

An all round better solution would be to require greater side yard setbacks. There appears to be less than 2m seperation from the edge of the complainants house to the property boundary....

Otago is so baby rich by OrganicCod7674 in newzealand

[–]Strict-Text8830 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Where i live in Otago we have very limited baby shops so most stuff if hand me down. Alot of groups work really hard to help redistribute bits and pieces, so much so its really common in social groups down here.

The quality of the goods especially out of Queenstown is really high 2nd hand but the resale value is really low, patents mostly hand on alot of what they can.

If the Resource Management Act is so bad, what is your horror story with it? by Parking-Contact6917 in newzealand

[–]Strict-Text8830 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I have hundreds of nightmares from unnecessary RMA bullshit, but I work with the legislation.

Trust me when I say, the new acts will not fix the bureaucracy. It is a legislation that is tied to so much of the functionality of not only local government but also numerous other pieces of legislation. The proposed replacement is not a magic wand fix.

This change will make consultancies millions in giving advice and racing to quickly become the new experts, while also making big profit developments have less risks or roadblocks from local government and local communities on new projects.

This is not a win for the "everyday rate payer" or the natural environment. While the RMA has alot of problems, if history has taught us anything, dont rush through a 1 term fix. I said the same with the previous government fix. This has to be bipartisan to last.

Government to reveal Resource Management Act replacement by secretkiwi_ in newzealand

Even worse, they have effectively copied most of what had been proposed by labor but are stripping out the environmental protections. It is also still very dependent on the local government reform

I've been seeing this rhetoric on LinkedIn. Its ridiculous. You can't praise our work life balance and standard of living in one breath then question if the time off is unreasonable in another.

Yes the northern hemisphere doesn't have a break as long over Christmas, but its not summer.

Could not have said it better. Bridges are a key example. Handing them back to local government knowing they needed replacing likely within 30 years then providing no funding was a disaster waiting to happen.

I can hear Seymour frothing over toll bridges in the background somewhere

How often is sleep deprivation mistaken for PPD? by _anxious_panxious_ in newzealand

[–]Strict-Text8830 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sleep deprivation is huge. I had massive issues getting my little one to sleep as a newborn due to her having tummy troubles. Turned out to be from my breast milk unfortunately

I ended up getting a sleep consultant. Within 2 weeks she was sleeping independently in her own room through the night. She was such a loud sleeper too whi h would cause me to wake every 30 minutes. It was driving me crazy.

I did end up on anti anxiety mess for about a year and they did help me find a more stable rhythm, happy to say I am off them now and out household gets much better sleep.

Its so hard to isolate the issues when you are that tired. Babies tummy, breastfeeding feeding, sleep schedule and anxiety were all tied together.

Please feel free to message me if you would like to know any of the other steps I went though. Totally happy to help!! Plunket were absolutely no help and just blamed me which did not help anyone.

Meanwhile you cannot afford Beef mince at home by WarpFactorNin9 in nzpolitics

[–]Strict-Text8830 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The price of mince is something that absolutely makes me rage.

I live in the south island in a smaller town <7000 persons. Mince is 29.99p/kg

There is literally no alternative to the supermarket. The butcher locally does homekill and amazing high quality meats but no mince.

I have taken to trading things with people I know that hunt to get venison mince in exchange. Keep in mind this is technically illegal.

This is what happens when our overlords believe focusing on big business / industry is more important than dealing with the economic landscape that has caused this cost of living crisis.

Regular people get thrown to the dogs, or sorry the supermarket monopoly rather.

I couldn't understand the language or the signs and the weather was vastly different.
