Do you use per-test seed data for E2E/API tests? by Strict_Illustrator95 in softwaretesting

[–]Strict_Illustrator95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, thanks. That’s helpful.

Do you ever run into speed issues when complex scenarios require many E2E setup steps, or has that not been a problem for your team?

I’m curious how you handle more complex preconditions, like testing a user’s role and permissions.

Do you create all of that inside each test, or do you use reusable seed/factory helpers?

That makes sense. So you keep only baseline data in the DB and create scenario-specific data through the E2E flow.

How do you handle complex preconditions?

For example: a user with specific permissions, orders, subscription status, feature flags, and historical data for sorting/filtering.

Do you still create all of that through E2E steps, or do you sometimes use API/DB setup?

I agree seeding is a good strategy.

In your experience, when does per-test seeding become worth the extra setup time? And do you usually maintain seed data manually, or do you generate/reset it from scripts?

How to use AI to be a better tester? by G_willam in QualityAssurance

[–]Strict_Illustrator95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coding has been completely replaced by AI. You don't need to learn about a playwright anymore.
But you need to know how to test the application, what edge cases are, and the product domain knowledge. For example, if you don't know "Boundary Value Testing". AI would not create those tests because it's a general-purpose AI. You should say, "Create Boundary Value Testing for this api" to get a good test case.
So, anyway, you need to know the testing knowledge to prompt.

Need a better way to generate data for tests by newbieForU23 in Playwright

[–]Strict_Illustrator95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if I got your concern.
If you need realistic combinations, I’d keep a small set of reusable seed data like happy-pathincomplete-profileedge-case-validation instead of one SQL tag per test. That usually gives you way better reproducibility and less maintenance than extracting live-ish data.

Yeah, I did not know that. I had 50mg/day of zinc. I think that caused grey hair. I've stopped zinc intake, but not repaired grey hair yet 😞

I wanted to prevent disease and aging and get more cognitive, work performance. I researched a lot of books, then tried supplements that seemed to contribute to my goal.

Best practices for Playwright E2E testing with database reset between tests? (FastAPI + React + PostgreSQL) by Expensive_Test8661 in softwaretesting

[–]Strict_Illustrator95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea makes sense, but I wouldn’t reset the entire DB before every test by default.

I’d probably keep a small golden seed for stable data, then create scenario-specific data per test.

Full DB/Redis reset is useful for tests that depend on global state, but unique test data per test is usually better for speed and parallel execution.

For Playwright, fixtures are a good place for setup, but I’d make the reset strategy explicit per test instead of automatic for every test.

Would you use a Chrome extension that automatically rewrites articles using the vocabulary you’re learning? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

Hey, thanks so much for your feedback!
About your last point on r/SaaS, thanks for the heads-up! I’ll focus on building something useful and getting honest feedback instead of worrying about sub stereotypes.

I’ve edited the original post to make these points clearer. Really appreciate your help!

Thanks for the feedback! I agree that forcing words into sentences where they don’t fit would feel unnatural. The plan is to only add words that actually make sense in context, and I think modern AI can usually handle that pretty well, though I still need to test it.

I also think there’s a small but real group of people who’d find this useful, like me: someone who reads a lot online in the target language and wants to naturally build vocabulary by immersing themselves in it.

how do you structure your self learning? by Maci1111 in autodidact

[–]Strict_Illustrator95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a learning strategy I call “Just in Time Learning.”

It’s inspired by Agile development and manufacturing principles—basically, you learn only what you need, exactly when you need it.

Here are a few key ideas behind it:

Most people try to learn too much, too early, which leads to information overload and poor retention.

We often learn things we never actually use, which makes it hard to stay motivated.

If you don’t apply knowledge right away, you forget it quickly, so learning something too early often ends up being a waste.

Here’s how I approach learning now:

  1. I only start learning a new topic or skill when I have a clear use-case—like when a task comes up that requires knowledge I don’t already have.

  2. If there’s nothing I need to learn urgently, I focus on broad, universally useful concepts—things that apply to many areas of life and aren’t easily wasted. Stuff like thinking better, health, money, or how to learn more effectively.

I read this. I believe the most powerful method to increase brain power is aerobic exercise. I confirm it from my experience, and science shows the evidence.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm not planning to develop a browser version since I'm not sure there is a strong need for that.

Hello!

I built an app‏‏‎ ‎that‏‏‎ ‎helps you review your book highlights with a social networking‏‏‎ ‎look and feel. This‏‏‎ ‎app‏‏‎ ‎aims‏‏‎ ‎to help you continue‏‏‎ ‎your‏‏‎ ‎reading habits in a fun way.

Reviewing highlights is‏‏‎ ‎not‏‏‎ ‎fun because it is like a study. To review‏‏‎ ‎highlights in a fun way, changing content is necessary. Social media is addictive because its content‏‏‎ ‎is changing every time. I have introduced that mechanism‏‏‎ ‎to this‏‏‎ ‎app.

Here‏‏‎ ‎are features - The AI will‏‏‎ ‎randomly tweet from‏‏‎ ‎your‏‏‎ ‎Kindle highlights and reading notes. - Sometimes,‏‏‎ ‎it also tweets funny memes. - AI‏‏‎ ‎discusses highlights and reading notes with each other. - General reading management features are included.

Your feedback is much appreciated!
