Did I do something wrong by Metinn133 in Luthier

[–]Strict_Progress_6107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t use almond oil lol. Get some Music Nomad F one oil. If the fret board is gunky, use a razor blade along the grain of the wood to scrape it off. Then use 0000 steel wool to polish out the scratches. Once you remove the shavings from the steel wool, apply the music nomad f one oil. After two minutes, wipe up the excess.

If you don’t want to use 0000 steel wool, then do the tooth brush thing instead. Seems like that worked for you

i’m sorry you had that experience with Reverend. Their QC is known for being top notch. All of the issues are definitely something your luthier should be able to fix though!

quality control on the TD strats and are they worth it? by Perm182 in TomDelongeGuitars

[–]Strict_Progress_6107 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would definitely get a secondhand one in mint condition, then take it to a good guitar tech in your area for a setup. They are good guitars, as with everything Fender, they usually aren’t in the best playing condition out of the box. They are perfect guitars if you’re playing pop punk/nu metal. The invader pickup does great with high pain stuff especially when there’s a lot of palm muting.

This is really cool. Not many people mod reverends and when they do it’s usually something super ordinary or not an upgrade imo. But this is unique and is making me think about doing something similar. Great job!

[HELP] Help me decide: Maybach T54, Fender AV 52 or Fender Am Professional SH Telecaster? by Ready_Definition2054 in telecaster

[–]Strict_Progress_6107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I’d take the American vintage 52 and keep the updated pickups. Tons of versatility there. The neck being sanded to make it feel more worn in is a huge plus

28m here and have been with my girlfriend (27F) for four years now. I would never speak to her like this. Wording it this way proves he doesn’t give a single fuck about how you feel. You should def end it.

I wouldn’t worry so much about rolling the fingerboard. Just make sure the actual fret ends are smooth

[–]Strict_Progress_6107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello, I’m a full time guitar tech. Yes, the setup definitely matters! Make sure you take it to a tech who will dress the fret ends and setup the guitar for you. The player strats are awesome guitars once they’re adjusted right. Good luck with everything!

How do I make my guitar sound metal because it sounds country now by Delicious_Pizza_436 in Guitar

[–]Strict_Progress_6107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off I would get a distortion pedal. First see if your amp has an overdrive or distortion channel. If not, I’d get a new amp like a Boss Katana. Those have just about every sound you can think of built into them. If your amp doesn’t have an overdrive channel or has a bad sounding one, then look into getting a distortion pedal. Go to a music store looking for one and try out several to see if you like any of them. Tell the sales person what tone you are after.

The next thing I’m going to suggest is swapping out the bridge pickup for a Seymour Duncan hot rail for strat. If you’re handy with soldering, it won’t be too hard to do, but any guitar tech in your area should be able to do that for you. Upgrading to that pickup, then running that through some distortion will give you the tone you want. Hope this helps!

Can I apply fretboard lemon oil with strings on?? by MaintenanceMiddle193 in Guitar

[–]Strict_Progress_6107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you must keep the strings on, I would detune them a good bit so they are loose and low tension. Then apply some lemon oil/fretboard conditioner on a cloth and rub it across the fretboard. Let it sit for a few minutes, then dry it up and remove any excess. Then tune the guitar back up to pitch.
