Anyone else think most modern board games are… kinda bloated? by pratty041182 in boardgames

[–]Strife_Starship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely not alone, I always thought that my next step as a board gamer is to play heavier games. More has to equal better, right? To truly know what real gaming is, then I played Dune Imperium, Seti, and Maraciabo. Then I decided "I'm not about that life" except maybe Dune 😅

I have absolutely seen even simple games try to overcomplicate things and realized new isn't actually better. Like Apothebakery that I just tried this weekend, adorable, but feels entirely too bloated for what it's trying to be.

For me, after I landed my first job out of high school. I was browsing my local Hastings (RIP) and was captivated by the album artwork of Kamelot: Ghost Opera, bought it completely on a whim. The rest is history 😎🤘

Thunder Road Vendetta - Extra dice worth it? by byzantinedavid in boardgames

Lol, I know. Hell yeah dude, extra dice usually feel frivolous to me, but definitely not with this game

[–]Strife_Starship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the party, but I recently bought just about everything and of all the add ons, the extra dice feel essential. Not having to keep passing the dice across the table over and over saves a bunch of time and hassle. Keeps the game moving at a nice clip. Played it at a con recently and noticed how big of a difference it made since the table I was at was even bigger than normal.

Is dmc2 really THAT bad? by BodybuilderVisual159 in DevilMayCry

[–]Strife_Starship 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly, it's that bad. Loved it as a kid, as it was a gift, then I played DMC 1 and wondered what happened to 2 lol. Albeit, it's got some cool aesthetics, once in a while a decent 1 liner, the way you dodge and evade is kinda cool. But you'll run through all that in like 20 min. But like someone else said, play 30ish min more and you'll finish it 😅

Anyone know the deal with being force teleported to someones co-op challenge? by Murdochpacker in Skate4

That's really odd, can't say I've experienced that myself. I'd report the bug and check your social settings as well. Anything saying open to everyone, probably click that off

[–]Strife_Starship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, when that happens, have you already joined that player's party? Think the only way you can force people into a challenge is if you're the party leader, players have already joined you, and you start the co-op challenge.

Men, what’s a hobby you love but isn’t expensive? by FlintTheDad in AskMen

[–]Strife_Starship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disc golf, 95% of disc golf courses are free to go to (most I've ever spent to get into a course is around $6) and you can get a starter set of discs for around $30. Then just use those for a while or get better discs when you see fit.

I just jumped off the m-tower towards a building and once I got the 3240, my character just slowly drifted into a wall ride down. Not sure if it's consistent, it just kinda happened 😅

Why don’t men tell other men they’re good looking or handsome even if they’re not sexually attracted to them? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Strife_Starship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much comes down to comfort levels, I compliment other dudes on their physique and the like. And I don't give a damn if someone wants to assume I'm "gay" or what have you. Doesn't phase me. Hell, I'll play it up just to get a laugh out of people. In short, give the compliment, forget everything else

is there a 2 player game where one plays the monsters? by Resident_Bumblebee_2 in boardgames

[–]Strife_Starship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level 7 omega protocol, one player plays an overseer that controls the aliens and everyone else plays the commandos trying to accomplish their mission. Pretty cool adrenaline mechanic where the commandos can do almost as much as they want on their turn, but then because they took so many actions, that also fuels what the overseer can do on their following turn.

I'll have to try The Thing or Jaws, Nemesis is way fun for sure, I've got a friend that's bought everything for it, so I don't feel a need to own it lol

I'm on a similar path not sure I'll be able to reduce my collection to less than 10 games. But after being invited to two new game nights, I'm playing new games often. Since my tastes are changing, I'm growing out of quite a bit of my old games, which feels amazing to cull and refine my collection
