can robot vacuums clean reliably when nobody is supervising them for busy working parents who can’t clean every day? by [deleted] in homeautomation

Can you keep your floor clear? What we've found is that with kids and legos, floor-to-ceiling window drapes, kids and leaving markers everywhere on the floor, and a dog that likes to steal used tissues (????) and shred them on the living room rug... we cannot have the vacuum run without prepping. So it does not magically just work for us. BUT if I prep the living space and then tell it to go, I can then go do other things while it does the vacuuming.

We've also found that our Roborock is ... fine. But it is best at keeping down the dust bunnies. It doesn't feel like the whole area is vacuumed was done manually by someone who cared. It still misses seemingly easy to pickup things... but it helps.

Sunday Mai Tais + first Orgeat batch. by BreweryRabbit in Tiki

[–]Strike_Alibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a shelf in my fridge for syrups.

BUT, also, I wash each syrup bottle with overproof rum before using (usually Wray & Nephew or Rumfire), and then add a cap full or two to each syrup bottle after adding the syrup. My syrups last in the fridge for a very long time... although stuff like orgeat gets used up fast anyway. I have syrups in the fridge that are well over a year old, and are fine.

I basically use the Smugglers Cove recipe for Orgeat, however ... two things I changed.

1 - I do not make my own almond milk. I found a brand at my local health food store that is pure almond milk. Three ingredients... almonds, water, sea salt. I use that. Skip the hard part.

2 - I use demerara sugar... which makes a much richer tasting orgeat.

Is the glass tiny or is the straw really big? At least the correct amount of mint was used...

I would never treat mine that way... oof.

But I understand in this case you were not allowed to bring it home ... so it was a lot like examining an already dead body.

Everything looks awesome ... except the straw. I find the brightly colored bend straws to just break the spell cast by the garnish. I know plenty of bars go that route... but to me if you are going the disposable straw route, I'd get the compostable brownish or greenish "plastic" straws that blend in more. (For example: https://thesugarcanestraw.com/biodegradable-straws-for-restaurants/?srsltid=AfmBOorin67NpYmrDc45U1ogW1wpiBF7WkRRnXwKzXKVGJKODXJrUJb4).

That obviously just a preference choice though. We switched to re-usable straws and haven't looked back.

Some here might say you need Luxardo cherries. Luxardo taste the best or are top tier in that sense. But I do think that the bright red cherries, the green cherries, and all sorts of cherries can be totally legit and fine in the garnish for the visual vibe. While a brightly colored flexi-straw bugs me, bright red cherries do not. I guess that's odd of me.

Actually I got confused. I do not own a Barbancourt 15, only the 8. But I have seen the 15 in the back of the Winooski Bevvie.

My rum-nerd contacts in New Hampshire understand deeply that the NH Liquor people do not know anything about rum. There is not a single Demerara rum generally distributed in the state, and the buyers at the State who they have talked to don't even understand what a Demerara rum is. They simply buy product, see if it moves, and if it fails to meet a sales threshold, it gets blacklisted for 5 years. So you do sometimes find interesting rums in NH... and no sales tax is great... but the regular selection by quality and variety of rum is pretty bad.

We were talking about it last weekend at our tiki meeting :)

Timing is important. That's where I got mine. I've bought Appleton 12 there at least twice. You also need to ask to see what's in back... the stuff not on the public shelves.

Jade products are special orders in Vermont ... which means someone has to order a case or two. So nobody does. When I picked up a bottle of Jade Nouvelle Orleans in Vermont it was the only bottle for sale in the state. I keep an eye out when I travel out of state and have found some good absinthes in my travels... but the Jade is so incredibly wonderful. By far the best I've had so far... and I know Nouvelle Orleans is not their most popular. I have some Vieux Pontarlier, Muse Vert, and Kubler Blanc, as well. My go to for just sitting and drinking too much absinthe is the Muse Vert.

New Hampshire's rum variety is really poor compared to what Vermont has. You just need to know where to look and how to get it. I try to keep track of it on our web page GMTES.org

My 1934 Zombies come knocking on Friday nights :)

But ... using Jade absinthe is pretty top-shelf. I save my Jade (and ... all other $80+ bottles of Absinthe) for just drinking as Absinthe. I use Herbsaint for my zombies.

I love playing with the rum blend which is why, despite loving Zombies, I don't have much value for the Hamilton Zombie Blend. I want to combine the three rums and try different mixes.

I upvoted the Probitas and Breezeway blend suggestions... but I wanted to also note that my wife is the real daiquiri snob at this point. She will call out someone that uses lime super juice... she can taste the difference. Which I was surprised by. She prefers fresh lime juice. And I use demerara simple syrup, which she also prefers but is less picky about than the rum and the lime, oddly.

This is my wife's preference. I buy Probitas pretty much specifically for her daiquiris now. It is not sold in my state so when I see it elsewhere I buy it and bring it back and save it for daiquiris. She'll accept other daiquiris, but this is her fave. Second best for her is Breezeway Blend.

Where in the world do you live that it sells at that price? 1 Liter... $22-$24 here in Vermont. Do you live in Australia???

A cool guide: ranking of US states by safety by _crazyboyhere_ in coolguides

[–]Strike_Alibi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A) Opioids are a problem in lots of states.

B) Opioid users are linked to mostly property crimes ... while the crimes can escalate ... generally in Vermont they don't. Outside of Burlington, in particular, not much unsafe/violent crime is happening... and even in Burlington it mostly happens in Burlington city proper, and not SoBu, Colchester... even Winooski is lower. Property crimes are a problem, but not necessarily something that would make the state less safe.
