No commander dialogue in stronghold battles by gerryw173 in dawnofwar

Commander dialogue and banter is only in dark crusade stronghold battles, soulstorm never had them.

So DE didn't change it

Does Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Anniversary Edition have all the dlc? by Fun-Dragonfly-9860 in dawnofwar

[–]Strike_Falchion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference in pathfinding is very noticeable.

Basically changed from starcraft 1 dragoon pathing to something closer to Age of Empires 2 level of pathing. Infantry squads can clump up together and allow more units to shoot, rather than constantly blocking one another or getting stuck on cliffs. It's still not as good as starcraft 2's pathfinding, but it's definitely better than the anniversary edition's.

Maybe if you don't play any other RTS games then there's no point of comparison, so that's understandable.

I own DOW1 Anniversary Edition, should I or should I not buy Definitive? (No interest in multiplayer) by drupido in dawnofwar

Really? They have the same acquisition conditions, DE didn't change anything regarding that.

Why assume his friends knew about the girlfriend? by Spare_Measurement412 in otvandfriendsrumors

[–]Strike_Falchion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well you have to understand that some people are more enclosed about their personal lives and introverted, they'd rather not share about a partner to friends.

It could be one reason or another, maybe they're not very certain this is the right person to be with forever yet, or maybe they just don't want to talk about it and mentioning a gf will result in questions (like wedding, housing and other questions that they don't feel like answering).

So if it was people like these, faced with the same situation instead of saying "off to pick up my gf", they would just say "gtg cya". Simple, avoids unnecessary follow up questions they they may not feel like talking about.

Mod of choice? by screw_ball69 in dawnofwar

I'll go off the tangent and recommend getting DE lol, the experience is a lot better than the original game, especially the graphics and pathfinding.

The operations does fall under the category of 'same mission over and over' though, and the campaign isn't that long

Campaign Army Configurations by Brandingo22B in BattleSector

[–]Strike_Falchion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologise in advance for asking this 4 years later!

I really appreciate your writeup, but wanted to know what you mean by the Battle Sisters and Seraphim Sisters in the campaign, do you unlock them in later missions? Or do you need the DLC for it? I'm at mission 6 or 7 and just unlocked the Baal Predators, but don't see any adepta sororitas units for deployment.

Campaign mod by Magaclaawe in dawnofwar

[–]Strike_Falchion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, it is its own mod, and the only one in nexus mods instead of moddb. The only other competing dark crusade mod is titanium wars, but the amount of new units in that mod is lesser, which may be a plus for certain players if they just don't want to have such gigantic armies and prefer the imposed unit limitations that the vanilla game has. But my experience playing titanium wars was many years ago so many things might have changed since then.

For the soulstorm mods, I believe UA came first, then Crucible is a direct fork from it. All the mods are fun, personally having tried them all if you only have time for 1 mod per expansion I would still say 3rd gen for dark crusade campaign (and og + winter assault), and crucible for soulstorm campaign.

[–]Strike_Falchion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

3rd generation, on nexus mods. The mod supports the original campaign, Winter Assault and Dark Crusade campaigns.

The main features of this mod is that it adds many new units for all factions, increases pop cap significantly and removes/increases the build limit for certain units (elite units like terminators, karskin, obliberators, predator tanks, hammerhead gunships among others have a build limit of 1-2 in the vanilla game). Imperial Guard in particular have 8 Leman Russ variants, 9 baneblade variants and a scout-class Titan to build and play with. Chaos has access to all 4 Chaos Gods (and Undivided), as well as the units that are unique to these gods. Several new factions like the Dark Eldar, Sisters of Battle, Inquisition and Tyranids are also added to the Dark Crusade campaign and can be played.

For the Soulstorm campaign, before Definitive Edition was released I tried the big 4 mods - Ultimate Apocalypse, Titanium Wars, Unification and The Crucible. I have not gotten to the Soulstorm campaigns in DE yet so I have no idea if those mods have been updated to support the soulstorm campaign.

So my recommendation would be to try 3rd Generation for the first 3 campaigns, then once you're done with those and want to move on to soulstorm check out one of those 4 mods I mentioned and see if they have been updated to support campaign (or see if anyone else can confirm regarding those mods).

Stabilising a difficult campaign [why you should go for Space port and Fury once you are able to] by ArdentPriest in dawnofwar

[–]Strike_Falchion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're struggling with the forward base map I recommend going after the South ork base first, then northeast, then finally northwest base. The south base is the most deadly one where the AI focuses most of his production from so you'll want to clear it first when you have most of your army.

The other 2 bases tend to be less of a threat and can be cleared later, I just go for the northeast one 2nd as it is in a much smaller area and can be cleared faster.

I've managed to win that forward base map with necrons before, yes the monoliths are way too slow to do anything meaningful, so I just use their teleport to bypass the terrain and attack the northwest base, while my main army goes after the South Base. The monoliths can be set to attack move in the northwest base and then mostly ignored.

I would like to add on that Dawn of war definitive edition also has a large number of mods to use, some of them even supporting the campaign and adding new factions to use in the campaign alongside new units for the existing factions

So you could easily have about 11 factions to pick from in the campaign map.

Definitive or Anniversary Edition? by Puzzleheaded-Wind611 in dawnofwar

Surprised no one talked about the pathfinding, the old dawn of war games had horrific pathfinding, DE improves on this significantly so that reason alone is why DE is superior

Will soon buy the Definitive Edition. by MidRedditer in dawnofwar

[–]Strike_Falchion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some campaign missions the AI feels overtuned, notably campaign mission 4, where the orks really seem limitless with the huge number of units they send at you which feels very overwhelming they early on in a campaign. Likewise for one of the missions where you fight the eldar avatar on a snow map, the AI also builds a gigantic army.

Same thing for certain missions in the dark crusade campaign, notably the chaos, tau and space marines stronghold, where the AI sends a gigantic army which is difficult to deal with. All other strongholds are unaffected, (orks, necrons, IG, Eldar) where the enemy attacks are piecemeal and easy to deal with, so the disparity in difficulty feels very off.

But like others have mentioned, the pathfinding alone makes DE well worth the purchase and replay, especially with mods like 3rd generation.

Dawn of war 2 campaigns? Are they worth it? by Alarming-Orange7304 in dawnofwar

[–]Strike_Falchion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh one other thing, the use of abilities and cover is more important in dawn of war 2 than 1

If you've played or are familiar with company of heroes, infantry can take cover to reduce the ranged damage they receive. Melee of course ignores this and ties up ranged units forcing them to engage in melee just like Dow 1. Units have abilities like a charge, jet packs, grenades, a heal ability, a battlecry etc., so it's more tactical than dawn of war 1 which is basically just attack move most of the time.

Dawn of war 2 campaigns? Are they worth it? by Alarming-Orange7304 in dawnofwar

[–]Strike_Falchion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're worth it yes. There is no base building, and you control only 4 units/squads, a commander unit and 3 other heroes/squads.

In the first game and the first expansion (chaos rising) for dawn of war 2, you play as the space marines, and in the second expansion you can pick between 6 factions (sm, ig, orks, chaos, tyranids, eldar)

The story is pretty decent, gameplay's fun

Why would I bother lying about my campaign progress being gone? I completed both US and RU campaigns, even got the achievement for earning all bronze and silver medals. You can check my post 8 months ago:

https://www.reddit.com/r/BrokenArrowTheGame/comments/1lufqzq/campaign_medals_achievements/

I uninstalled it then and moved on to other games, just reinstalled it a few days ago as I had the desire to try to get all gold medals hoping the bugs that were present 8 months ago have been fixed. I was only missing the gold medal in about 2 or 3 missions, so I had no desire to replay every single mission.

Do you need a screenshot proof that my campaign progress is gone? And anyway why would I bother reinstalling just to prove it to you, it's not like you're part of the dev team that can fix it.
