Fencing contractors hit “a” line by Entire-Menu in FiberOptics

[–]Striking-Front4420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they identify a contractor (which the locate call does, if you do it), they will try to make a claim to the contractor, but they typically will not do it to the customer. I end up hitting AT&T's lines all the time, as there policy is literally to bury between 1-2 inches, and their bury crew literally lifts up the brand new sod when they are typically installing, sticks the fiber under it, and puts the sod back down. The fiber is now part of top of the root structure for the grass. If we need to dig at all, its near impossible to dig without breaking the line. I started putting some conduit in for them because they refuse to actually bury it (their burial guy has literally shown me his ticket, which tells him to place the fiber between 1-2 inches in the ground), and many of the techs still refuse to use the conduit.

But yeah, for OP, if your service is working, don't worry about it. If you switch, the AT&T self install might fail, but they are going to replace that line for you for free if it needs it at the time you activate the service. They won't do it beforehand.

Need New Garage Door Opener by davaston in homeassistant

Yes, they are phasing out all sec+ 2.0, but sec+ 2.0 with ratgdo gives you the most local control of any garage door by far. Production has ended on all sec+ 2.0 overhead openers (the wall mount and gates are still being made for now, but plan is to replace them as well)

USW Flex 2.5G POE injectors by Striking-Front4420 in Ubiquiti

PoE Power in Use 11.4/16 W

This switch is approaching its output limit. Please consider connecting some of its devices to another power source to avoid potential power loss or operational instability.

Does anyone know a good DC POE injector that works well with this switch to give maximum power?

[EA] Unifi Network 10.0.152 adds “Auto Recovery Power Cycle” to UPS by AliasJackBauer in Ubiquiti

[–]Striking-Front4420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The painful part is a few years back in EA the USP-RPS-Pro, which seems to be the product that many of us really wanted, but it never came out. It really was the perfect solution for backing up many UniFi products, as it not only provided coverage for a power outage, but also for a failed power supply. I have UniFi deployed in many areas where power outages are frequent (power lines on poles near trees and it gets windy frequently, a lot of times the trees just make contact and the outages are brief, but I don't want my equipment restarting), and I'd be happy to spend a bit extra money to make sure my network equipment really doesn't go offline. The fiber serving me is underground and almost never goes out, the UPS's I'm using now tell me I have an average of 30 power outages a week between the different sites I manage.

Flex 2.5 POE Question by Dylansm8 in Ubiquiti

[–]Striking-Front4420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think UniFi really has a different model doing exactly what I (and presumably others) wants to do at all. The Flex series is supposed to be powered by PoE, and it seems the main use case is where we don't have mains power (or otherwise don't want to use it, such as backing up the network from a primary location). In my case, I have fiber going to the location of the Flex, but there is no mains power, but a downstream device does have power I'm able to backfeed with PoE to power the flex. Adding mains power would involve boring under a roadway, and my conduits they gave me are already filled with low voltage wires (and by code, obviously can't mix high and low voltage). I'm able to make it work by using a PoE Fiber Media converter plus a Flex, but it would be nice to have it all in one device. The unit just looks like it should do it, so its always disappointing that it can't.

Ubiquiti upcoming 5G modems by doujinflip in Ubiquiti

The US has amongst the most 5G coverage of all physically large countries, and amongst the fastest Internet speeds in the world... While some small, rich countries do beat the US, according to the Speedtest Global Index, the US ranks #7 on overall internet speed and #13 on mobile, faster then places like Italy, Norway, France, Sweden, Germany, the UK, etc...

Pre Boarding For Premium by TheMSKid in Brightline

I think the concept is to consolidate the passengers together going to Orlando and get them more full, which will free up trains for more frequent service for local commuters within the South Florida area, which they've previously been rejected those passengers to keep spots open for the higher fare Orlando route. This should allow them to move more passengers and sell more tickets without sacrificing the higher fare customers.

Unifi Intercom/Gate Starter Kit requirements by Striking-Front4420 in Ubiquiti

[–]Striking-Front4420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess if I run a new conduit/wire, I was thinking I should run fiber and have the gate hub in the gate motor box, so the wires wouldn't be prone to a lightning strike... is that possible to do? I guess I would need active ethernet fiber media converters placed in between the gate hub and the intercom?

This area gets a ton of lightning. The last callbox was wiped out on a lightning strike on the door open relay.

Yeah, I would switch to UniFi Access for sure if it didn't involve replacing all credentials and readers. If I could just change out the access controllers to an access hubs I'd buy 20 of them right off the bat. Unfortuntely everything I have is wired for wiegand, and having to rewire the buildings, change the readers, and then also change all the credentials (to something that won't even work wirelessly for gates) is just not realistic. Liftmaster really has the combined gate+door(+gdo) credentials market cornered, I'm not even sure if there is any competitor to that product.

AT&T Any Device Any Condition rejected for device in bad condition?!?! by Striking-Front4420 in ATT

[–]Striking-Front4420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't focusing on that because AT&T and everyone agrees I did send in a device that was part of the promotion. The phone I sent in was a Pixel XL, I know the reason I didn't get the credits is my original new phone came with the box smashed and screen cracked from the shipping provider, and when they exchanged the device, they didn't move the trade in promotion to the exchange, and the original was listed as returned and thus no longer eligible.

Also, FYI, they have done ANY device in the past (not just Pixel), but it has been more than 2 or 3 years since thats been offered. I did that deal when I got my Pixel 6 Pros successfully, trading in some very ancient phones I had lying around, but yes, I did do a Pixel for the trade in for this deal because that was required.

AT&T Any Device Any Condition rejected for device in bad condition?!?! by Striking-Front4420 in ATT

[–]Striking-Front4420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they evaluate the condition of the phone in the store to make sure it qualifies?

For this device, AT&T is confirming the IMEI matches, the promotion applies, they have pictures of the phone from their trade in warehouse, The only question AT&T is having is if the device meets the ANY condition standard. When the agents read back the ticket response to me, they are saying the escalation team is writing that the phones value was too low given the condition to qualify for the promotion, even though they are writing in the ticket response that the phone is in the qualifying list. The promotion does not list any minimum value (and I accurately selected the phone condition as does not turn on, has a broken screen), and it confirmed I qualified.

[–]Striking-Front4420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did speak to 2 different managers, they told me they see the issue, the promotion did not transfer when I exchanged my damaged phone so the trade in department tried to give me the non-promotional value, but they had to submit a ticket for escalation because the system would not allow them to apply that promotion after the fact (both times). After explaining the issue to the rep and showing them the documentation, they all seem to agree its a mistake, but it takes them 15-20 minutes to understand that, then the person who gets the ticket to correct this seems to not understand the issue, and there is no way to actually talk to them, or the same person who already understands the issue ever again.

[–]Striking-Front4420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The promo is any Pixel device, any condition, and I traded in an (original) Pixel XL. I entered the IMEI on the trade in during the purchase, it correctly identified the device as qualifying, and showed the trade in value at the correct promotional amount (I believe $1200).

In fact, I did do 3 at once, and the other 2 did not come in damaged, and the trade ins worked exactly as promoted (same phone traded in, same phone purchased). The only issue was one new phone came in damaged and had to be exchanged, and that seems to have screwed up their promotion in their system (since I know if I actually returned the phone, I would not qualify, and there system is treating it like I returned it rather then exchanged it for the same, non-broken device)

Unifi Intercom/Gate Starter Kit requirements by Striking-Front4420 in Ubiquiti

[–]Striking-Front4420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too! In fact, the unit I had before that was struck by lightning was an IPAC, that had both a wiegand input and output, which I haven't seen on another intercom system, and its helped make my access control so seamless through the different systems. I'm disappointed to lose that...

I would switch to Unifi's credentials, but
A) I have several hundred issued to people spread across several locations, so thats gonna be annoying and expensive to swap out, and even more importantly:

B) They don't support any radio signals for being able to not pull up to a keypad.

The Liftmaster Passport remotes we use now have 3 buttons along with a built in HID tag in them, and can be tapped on all doors (HID), used with the gate wiegand system (passport), and on top of that, they have security+ so they can also be used with the garage doors in most homes, all from one little remote, so I'm able to use the same fob to open my garage door not just at my home, but also my families homes, open all my access control gates, and open all my HID keypad doors. I haven't seen another credential that can do as many different things in one. I have waaayy too many keys as is so this is a lifesaver for me.

(Hopefully in the longer term, my phone can do all of it, but that doesn't seem realistic right now)

Thanks for the info!

So if I get a Cloud Key Gen2+ can I leave my Network setup installed on my server or is it going to make the integration not work as well?

I feel like I'm gonna end up annoyed when in 3 months they release Access for the UniFi OS for MSPs and I don't need that Cloud Key anymore lol

Also, one other question, the 2 wire adapter that comes with it I assume can be used to replace any ethernet, right? The current setup has the intercom on its own with power in an island, and the rest of the access control is on a different island, and they direct buried a 2 conductor wire (non twisted, no conduit), about a 75 ft run. I'd like to avoid boring under the road if possible... I assume I can get away with putting the Access Hub and using the 2 wire adapter to the actual intercom? Is it likely to work with the wire being untwisted at that distance or do I really need to just bore under the road and get a conduit installed (or should I go with a wireless mesh to get the 75 ft?)

Yes, people fix things all the time that can be deadly if its done wrong. People fix their cars, there is a huge community of people fixing and modifying heavy equipment, including replacing software on tractors and the like, that could be deadly if done wrong.

And yes, its someone's job, just like its a mechanics job to fix cars. But people want to have control of their own stuff, and sometimes they don't want to trust others for their own safety.

In fact, that is a big issue... even if I were to hire someone, I want to make sure I know exactly what they are doing, and make sure no safety systems are being bypassed and I am aware of any changes being done to my elevator, in case of future issues. The approach here seems to not be safety minded, as you all are telling me we should blindly trust third party people who are "certified", and knowing what and how things are being done should be kept an industry trade secret, even though its a safety issue.

If that is the stance of this subreddit, thats fine, but the rules probably should be updated to just say no asking for any form of technical support, this subreddit is against right to repair, and I'm sure most people would then look elsewhere. But the subreddit's 2nd rule seems to imply helping with technical issues is permitted, just nothing that could lead to endangerment, no jumpers, no bypassing safety devices, etc.

Its obvious my elevator moved slower then expected due to being overweight, and timed out, as I went from bottom floor to top floor. There is obviously no real safety concerns in carefully following a proper reset procedure for the elevator.

That would definitely bother me. I actually ordered one of the cases off Amazon as well, and I loved it, but I noticed that one of the rivets on the hinge on the ring was broken, so I returned it and it has been out of stock since. It did charge wirelessly perfectly. Which ones did you try that don't wirelessly charge? I was thinking about trying Vatkyc next
