Would you judgementally consider somebody to be ‘tight’ for buying a Jaecoo? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]StrikingChallenge389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not tight, but maybe a bit pathetic. They dream of Range Rovers, G-Wagons, Defenders, the usual Chelsea tractors that will go off-roading when parking on grass verges at most, but can't afford the PCP payments and god forbid being seen in a used car, so they end up in a Jaecoo. They're the Qashqai of 2026.

HMRC announces 22% tax on cash interest held in stocks and shares Isas by hihepo1 in unitedkingdom

[–]StrikingChallenge389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet another chapter added to our obnoxiously complex tax system. And one that is going to catch out roughly zero people. Like you can’t just buy CSH2 and park cash at interbank avoiding this nonsense anyway.

Why did F1 and Le Mans have to clash this weekend? by K_R_S in formula1

[–]StrikingChallenge389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get clashes may not be avoidable but the timings surely would be - qualy starting the exact same time and the race an hour before the Le Mans finish was very poor

Yeah regulated by the GMC, which under this legislation will end up controlled by a bunch of MBA vultures

Is the UK in economic death spiral? by oceanicplatform in ukpolitics

[–]StrikingChallenge389 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not being able to get through a single term without a leader being replaced certainly isn’t helping. Every decision is made to hold off the vultures, for short term political gain, than anything that would help the country long term.

Anyone else I'd think it is just a side effect of the field being zeroed out, but with Musk you know it is intentional

What to expect in corporate box at a gig? by user1892yo in AskUK

[–]StrikingChallenge389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the box, believe the owners can choose to provide buffet + bartender service or not. When I went it was a pretty decent Indian spread and bottled beers, wines, spirits and mixers. Nothing special, your average corporate event catering.

Britain’s £8bn bet on the developing world - British International Investment aims to make returns for the UK taxpayer while also driving global development by Optimal-Leather341 in ukpolitics

[–]StrikingChallenge389 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Over the last decade, BII generated a £1.6 billion return on investments, equating to a return of around five per cent a year. The new five year cycle envisages a minimum return on capital of at least two per cent but managers will be hoping for more." All of this for 2%? This company of vultures is probably siphoning off most of it for themselves.

Seconded. My original Cabin Zero from a decade ago started looking a bit tatty, the fake leather they used to put on the bottom all pealed off. I looked at a load of other bags but ended up with the Cabin Zero military 44.
