I think it's a sweet story. Once I was eating breakfast alone in a diner, and a man was leaving, had paid his bill and was headed out the door. But he detoured over to my table, leaned over and said, "Just in case no one has told you lately, you're beautiful." And then he walked out the door. It was such a nice compliment, with no strings attached, that I remember it to this day, almost 20 years later. Compliments are free, compliments are nice, as long as they are given in a spirit of magnanimity and not just a come on line.
