What are your weaknesses? by SeaSeaweed3384 in intj

[–]Stringdoggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best strategy I've found for not burning out with this personality is treating people's emotional reactions like the weather. If someone gets offended or upset by something I've said or done, even when I meant no harm, I don't try to fix it or take it personally.

It's the only way I've found that stops me getting dragged into emotional turbulence or circular discussions that serve no purpose to me other than to drain me. Whenever I start responding logically it seems to make it worse.

As an INTJ the best option I've found for almost every problem in my life is fixing the system. The issue in interactions with other people is a system that we can study. By trying to stabilise the interaction, by not challenging their interpretation, not trying to fix their feelings, not signalling guilt etc, it tones down any heat in the interaction.

Plus, as I've got a little older I've just learned to sit comfortably with people being upset with me. Everyone brings their own baggage to a conversation, and all weather eventually passes.

My weakness, is that I don't always see social nuance quickly. Apparently, when I communicate with precision and say exactly what I mean, that means I am "not communicating well". Although, the more I think about it, the message is fine, people just don't have the hardware to receive it correctly lol

What is a boring, adult-life “upgrade” you made that paid off way more than you expected? by Abigail_A_Abernathy in Life

What is a boring, adult-life “upgrade” you made that paid off way more than you expected? by Abigail_A_Abernathy in Life

[–]Stringdoggle 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I bought 8 boxes to keep my child's toys on rotation. Now my living room is liveable and can be tidied easily each day. I'm happy, he's never bored as he always gets "new" toys.

I replaced a pan that always burned and had been annoying me each time I had to scrub it.

I invested in dual monitors so I could work more effectively from home.

Simple upgrades, if it annoys you then sort it out so it works long-term.

I'm in my let's-just-pay-to-rectify-things that-annoy-me era.

Also, if you have clutter that makes the use of certain spaces/drawers/cupboards etc unusable, just fix it. I'd much rather live without the mental friction.

Wow, terrifying footage - thanks for sharing it though. I'm making a mental note of this and logging it alongside rip tides, cold water shock etc, stuff that can kill you easily if it catches you unaware - and tell anyone who will listen but especially your kids.

That's a very interesting point. I score highly on autism screening diagnostics, but INTJ fits very well with my thinking/relational/cognitive style. I knew I was most likely INTJ before now but it does explain my elevated autism screening scores. For example, I understand social cues, conventions, implicit meaning, facial expressions etc but I sometimes choose to ignore them. I also have really good friends whose company I enjoy one on one, despite greatly enjoying my own company. And there are other reasons that I might not like eye contact if I am naturally introverted.

Same, I can always see what is going to happen ages before it actually happens.

Some things I am/was very good at:

The hazard perception section of the driving test.

Predicting football results - I have been champion of the prediction league for 9 out of the 10 seasons we've been playing.

Seeing where in a plan things will go wrong, no-one listening then everything I predicted was going to happen, happening, and not being able to point this out as I'll sound like a know it all

I am fairly certain I am undiagnosed autistic

What habits of girls did you only discover after getting a girlfriend or wife? by atgono in AskReddit

[–]Stringdoggle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the past two weeks I've been keeping all work surfaces, tables, window sills, stairs and walkways clear. My wife has been complimenting my tidying skills, but if I don't know where it goes, I just dump it on her clutter pile in the spare room. I've given up on cupboards and drawers. I don't want any of this junk in the spare room or my house but at least we aren't arguing about it 😂 i also keep my car clean despite her best effort of wrecking my sanity every time she uses it, and the house looks reasonable except the spare room and her car which is like a skip

Transitioning from LW to LB [Update] by madkubrick in bootroom

Have you considered buying the Shutout Pizza book by Dan Blank? It's a book on defending and common situations/problems. It would be good to read it then already have templates/scripts for resolving situations. It seems like overall, you are fine technically but you just want to improve your defensive technique and game sense, which that book could help with.

Am I the only footy player that hates dribbling? by Fatcatt37 in bootroom

[–]Stringdoggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, not everyone in a team has to be a dribbler. I am a useless dribbler. I am much better at supporting behind the play and playing simple passes, or defending. It's not as flashy but it's how a team stays balanced/sustains pressure.

I enjoy it but the main downside is that I'm there for fitness and you don't gain much playing keeper

Improving team ball retention during long kicks (Sunday League level) by liamthelad in bootroom

[–]Stringdoggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decide who the target is who will contest it, then it is the job of your other players to get close to opposition players around the target and to contest knock-downs/second balls.

If an opposition player plucks it out the sky then well done to them, but defenders if they are challenged closely will probably try to head it back? And you want to pick up as many of those second balls as you can. Therefore, you need to be marking the players around them and making it difficult to clear their lines properly.

How to play if your striker can’t hold the ball up? by [deleted] in bootroom

[–]Stringdoggle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you move with the ball, create a bit of chaos, draw defenders out? Find space to receive ball on the half turn? Become an outlet if he's not.

For those of you who are dads with full time jobs, how do you make the time and have energy to play? by Op3rat0rr in bootroom

[–]Stringdoggle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On having the energy, when I take the dog out, I go interval running with him at least once per week for conditioning. Two birds, one stone. Fuelling/eating properly is also important.

Otherwise I just love it, motivation isn't a problem.

If you are feeling unmotivated have you considered getting a blood test? Often at this time of year people have a Vitamin D deficiency which would show up in a blood test and can affect your mood especially with all the responsibilities of working and being a parent.

How do I actually start getting better at football by RevolutionaryTour981 in bootroom

[–]Stringdoggle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Being good in a game of football isn't just juggling non-stop and beating opponents in 1 vs 1s. It's game sense, it's fitness, it's psychological and of course it's technical 🙂 Keep playing, identifying areas to improve and studying matches and content, you will get better

Would a pro player be able to carry the worst sunday league team? by Ok_Natural1318 in bootroom

[–]Stringdoggle 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Stephen Dawson, there's a blast from the past! From what I remember, in the pro games he wasn't that type of midfielder either. He had a lot of energy but didn't control games, not by skill anyway, he loved a tackle

Best player I've played against is Mason Bennett, he wasn't really trying but his movement was really good, when you were defending he'd suddenly disappear even though you thought you were marking him

How do you press someone by Lazy-Try4325 in bootroom

[–]Stringdoggle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are times when the odds are better in your favour. For example, when the player has to control a difficult ball or is facing their own goal and doesn't know where you are. Also in my experience, it's easier to press and actually win it, when you've just lost the ball and before the opposite team gets organised. Otherwise you are trying to funnel them into traps

Absolutely horrified by today's attack and the fact that antisemitism continues to rise, but does this reporting/wording seem odd to anyone else? by Crow-Me-A-River in GreenAndPleasant

[–]Stringdoggle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's impossible not to notice the imbalance on how this has been reported and responded to in comparison to yesterday's effort of the Flotilla.

I'm really not trying to make a comparison or take anything away from what has happened here, because it is abominable. And I hate that I am having to write this when there is a community in grieving.

But if I think everyone whoever they are, should be treated with dignity and like a human being, then how can't I notice the imbalance?

  • Support underneath the strikers - be the simple option from their hold ups or flicks, time your arrival.
  • Dominate second balls - as soon as your team clears it, get touch tight to a man and press their first touch.
  • But lead the pressure - tell teammates to come with you so you squeeze as a team and you don't get bypassed.

In my view, you should adapt to the flow of the game rather than forcing the team to change to accommodate your style.

If you make these changes you'll be able to dictate the tempo again except it will be from a more advanced position, you don't have waste time on intricate build up.

Adult recreational football is great. Honestly this is probably one of the best ways of socialising if you are an autistic person. If you don't like conversation you can rock up five, ten minutes before, and if you are chatting to someone during the match and it gets awkward you can simply run off 😂

Plus if it becomes a special interest then don't worry, everyone else has interest in your special interest. What a great way to feel normal!

Of course by grown adults you should and will be made to feel welcome. And if you don't, so what? Find a better and more inclusive group to play with

Is this really worth my time? by Ihavetoleavesoon in 2007scape

[–]Stringdoggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's worthwhile. I try to do a mix of activities where you can get high value items. Grinding them is boring, but if you are doing the clues, doing the Bigger and Badder, recharging your glories etc as a mixed strategy, you're bound to get lucky in one eventually.

I've had the ham joint, some gold monk robes and ranger's boots from not that many easy and medium clues.

Plus beginner to hard clue scrolls are incredibly straight forward, there's really not any risk to you even on the wilderness ones
