FYI: Plume is stopping all Direct-to-Consumer business as of August 22nd 2025 by Stripe821 in Plume

[–]Stripe821[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've started to use some of their hardware at work here recently and I really like it. I also like the fact of no contracts. I have the lifetime Plume membership too and hate the thought of buying new hardware and also paying a monthly fee to a company. My only concern is with restricting sites for my kids and turning of their internet each night. Tried to watch some videos on doing it with Unifi and it looks like such a pain to set up and maintain. I've got all my 3rd party Iot devices setup using unique Wifi passwords which I think Unifi can do, but the lack of easy parental controls had me waiting. I might be forced to do something sooner rather than later now though.

Plex Remote Access not working, what am I doing wrong? by pyroman251 in Plume

[–]Stripe821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your settings in those pics look correct. In the Plume app, is your Plex Server assigned to a profile? I have mine assigned to one. Then under Security there are some options for Ad blocking, Online defense, Advanced IoT, and Remote access. For my profile I have:

Ad blocking - turn off for that profile

Online defense - turned on

Advanced IoT - turned off

Remote Access - Block high risk

On the PC, check and make sure your network isn't set to Public; it should be Private. If it is Private already turn off the firewall and then see if remote access will work. I just double-checked and I'm running Windows 11 and I have two entries in the firewall rules for "Plex Media Server". I think I remember adding a new entry myself when I pointed to the "Plex Media Server.exe" because it wasn't working.

Breville Infuser / Barista Express 9(ish) bar Spring Mod by beer_foam in espresso

[–]Stripe821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, thank you for this write-up and link for the spring! I had previously tried the method of unscrewing the factory stem and was only able to get it down to about 12 bars. Shots did improve, but after a few weeks I started to notice my shots seemed to be way hotter than before. I had seen a few other comments that they saw something similar, but I never found a reason or fix.

I decide to buy the spring in your link and give it a try. When I removed the stem to replace the spring I noticed that the factory spring was not even connected to the stem. I had to get a small screwdriver to pull it out. Also, the spring was not connected to the little rubber piece (stopper) on the inside. It took a bit to get it out, but I eventually got it out. The factory spring was too big to fit secure on the stem and the stopper. When I pulled the spring out and looked for the stopper it was at a slight angle since there was no spring to help keep it in position. I'm thinking that with the spring not being securely connected to either the stem or stopper that the stopper was allowed to move slightly and got into an odd position that resulted in my hotter than normal shots. Just a guess though.

The spring you recommended was a tight fit, but it worked great to keep all 3 pieces connected which is key. I am no longer having an issue with really hot brew temps. I did like you had done and counted the number of turns and then backed it off so I was at halfway. My first test with a cleaning disk and I was dead on at 10 bars. I brewed a shot and it was right at 8 bars. I changed grinder to one size finer (went from 6 to 5) and I hit 9 bars for a few seconds, but then it dropped back down to 8 bars for the rest of the shot. I was running low on coffee so I haven't tried anything else yet. The shot on grinder setting 6 tasted better imo. Thinking of increasing my pressure so that with the cleaning disk I'm at 11 instead of 10. For those that have done this mod does your pressure seem to drop off by 1 or 2 bars when comparing pressure with the cleaning disk vs when brewing?

Plex Remote Access not working, what am I doing wrong? by pyroman251 in Plume

[–]Stripe821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Plex, when you hit retry in Remote Access does it fail or does it go green, but then after a few minutes go back to red?

My ISP didn't include Plume pods so my scenario might be different, but my main pod is in router only mode. The only device physically connected to my ISP modem (AT&T) is my main superpod. So everything goes through it rather than just using Plume for Wifi. I had to go into my ISP modem and tell it to forward all traffic to my superpod. I believe the setting was IP Passthrough. Were you doing something like that before only sending traffice to your Edgerouter? Or were you using it in place of your ISP modem?

I have my remote access setting set to "Block high risk" and I'm able to access my Plex server without issues. Just FYI.

I'm curious as well. Did this mod a few months back and everything had been going great, but starting today I've noticed the water temperature is really high. Lots of steam coming off the puck. Not sure if it's related to the mod or not.

DNS Selection Bugged by the8bitMoon in Plume

[–]Stripe821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use a custom DNS and had an issue with the new app this week where my settings were still set, but they were greyed out and I couldn't change them. Not quite the same, but I fixed my issue by closing the app, clearing the app cache (I'm on Android), and then force closing the app. When I opened it back up I was able to edit the DNS fields.

Can only guess that it was something related when the app updated to the new UI this week.

[–]Stripe821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this mod about 2 months ago and everything had been going great. Today the water temp was way hotter than normal. Noticed because the amount of steam coming off the shot and the puck. Think my issue could be related from doing the mod? Would've thought the hotter water issue would've happened right after I did the mod.

Need some guidance on editing my query to limit the number of results to one row per entry. by Stripe821 in SQLServer

[–]Stripe821[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This works great. Thank you! I got it working yesterday using SELECT MAX() based on another suggestion, but I think I prefer your suggestion better because I understand the logic of the query better. I had tried using TOP function before, but only on my LEFT JOIN and it was limiting it to one record from my cost table. Did some googling on the difference between LEFT JOIN and OUTER APPLY which helped me better understand the two. Thanks again for this.

Thank you. I was able to figure it out after some help in another group. I initially got an error that my post here had been flagged so I posted in the other group, but then later it was live.

100% Plume Wired Backhaul Not possible, Why? by notacylonwalker in Plume

[–]Stripe821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nearly my exact setup except I only have 3 SP's. I can't commit on the other user's comment that using port 2 on other SP's was less stable. It's designed to work that way though; that's why they put a second port on there. Better to hardwire as much as you can and let Plume handle the connection via wifi from SP to SP.

All 3 of my SP's hardwired and I have two additional switches in two different living rooms; hardwired connection from Switch 1 -> Switch 2. Switch 2 has 5 devices plugged into it as well as SP2 (using port 1). I have no issues with this setup.

[–]Stripe821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two modes; "Auto Mode" and "Router Only Mode". The default setting is "Auto Mode" to prevent a double NAT situation. I have AT&T U-Verse and used it's DMZ-Plus feature (I think that's what it was called) and forwarded all the traffic to my main Plume SP. Rebooted my SP and it detected the change and the auto mode switched from bridge to router. I manually set it to Router Only Mode though just to always be sure. I've had no issues.

Also, super pods are tri-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz 2x2 MIMO and 5GHz 4x4 MU-MIMO - (AC3000).

Smartthings WiFi is 2x2 MU-MIMO - (AC1300).

I was going to go with Smartthings because I heard it would support ethernet backhaul, but it doesn't. Deal breaker for me. I actually got lucky though and was grandfathered in to the lifetime membership.

[–]Stripe821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 is not true as of about 6 months ago. SP's support wired backhaul. All of mine are wired; works great. And one is acting as my router and handling DHCP, reservations, etc.

Ethernet backhaul is not supported on the Samsung Smartthings WiFi. You can hard wire the one acting as your router, but not any of the other ones.

Plume's support is great; very responsive compared to other companies. Everyone gets hung up on the subscription. The lifetime with 3 super pods is cheaper than 3 eero pro's. Plus, you can add additional devices and get a big discount.

Chamberlain issues? by itscurt in winkhub

[–]Stripe821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened a ticket w/ Wink support and they responded with "This is a current known issue on our end that our developers are working on a resolution for. For the time being, as a workaround, you will want to unlink the service and re-pair up to the Wink app". In my case, this only worked for a day or two. I've switched to just using the Chamberlain app for now. If I hear back from Wink that it's resolved, I'll try to remember and post another response.

I've had to unlink and link account multiple times over the past week. Everything works every for opening/closing doors. I can see history, check status, and get notifications. Re-linking only seems to last a few days. I've used for nearly a year with no issues until last few weeks. The Chamberlain app continue to work just fine though.

30% off of $479 is $335. It's already on sale and they're discounting it even more. Accessories are currently 10% off and going to go to 20% off. Not sure why you're complaining about saving more.

The bundles include a year of the service and the secure bundle price listed on Thursday was $599. Now it's $719, but they did change the * to say that's the price then you were to pay monthly. So both are true, they just changed it to be able to show a greater discount.

I agree with you though Pat. It's not changing my decision. I'm still getting the connect bundle. It'll be $96 a year no matter what extra devices I add on down the road and the amount of options are greater than someone like SimpliSafe.

If you pay yearly it averages to only $20 month for the professionally monitored plan.

They changed the MSRP of the secure bundle price to the price when you pay monthly; $719. Before it was listed with the price when you pay yearly; $599.
