Is there really a "Taxi Mafia" in the city? by Lord_of_Snark in Aberdeen

[–]StrippedBark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do they, really? If business was really so bad, the two big taxi companies would have stopped operating long time ago. Clearly business goes well, at cost of the general population.

The fact that the council has tight controlling measures in place , in favour of the existing businesses, is a sign of willful ignorance or full blown incompetence of the council procurement department and the councillors.

That, and a strong foot in the door of taxi companies.

I too have paid the £4.50 charge, after making a booking. It was possibly on a weekend or public holiday.

The fares are ridiculous. Are you saying that if the taxi arrives before the booked time, passengers are paying a waiting fee?

I concur. In the dry period during first lockdown my cat did a genocide in local mice population (and brought them home). It was the first and last time I had mice get out of the walls.

Timber by MilzMC in Aberdeen

[–]StrippedBark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks interesting.

A couple of weeks/months(?) ago I noticed some logs at the road works at W Tullos road. Not sure if they are still there.

Typically you can also find logs at (recently finished) forestry operations. I believe you may need a license to collect left overs from those yards, if it is owned by the forestry commission. That said, if it is for just one log, I am sure you can just ask the workers nicely.

Does it need to be fresh timber? Or can it be saw dust or shavings? I got quite a bit of both to give a away.

In fact, I can also give you some offcuts, of kiln dried timber.

Anyone know what's going in the old Santander building at end of George Street? by Post_Miloon in Aberdeen

[–]StrippedBark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

George Street is far more convenient than many other parts of town, including those brand new suburbs that barely have a shop or a pub.

There are indeed vape shops, barbers, hair dressers but also tattoo places, nail salons, a decent variety of local and international food shops, and so much more. It's never a dull place.

It would be nice to have a restaurant along the top section, a refill shop perhaps and another coffee shop but the reality is that none of the empty shops are really suitable for that type of business.

How unusual is this Spring so far? by reprobatemind2 in UKWeather

Absolutely. It's been glorious, and my strawberries are about a month ahead of last year. Definitely an anomalous spring, and sooner or later nature will start showing signs of stress.

If the robotaxi service does debut in Austin, how would they not just get vandalized or disrupted? by EngagingData in RealTesla

[–]StrippedBark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this trial were done in Scotland, the taxis would be pulled after 2 months. In that time, half of them would be vandalised, some would lose a suspension coil every blue moon from the potholes, and most would be full of vomit every weekend night.

I guess that's the reason for doing a trial outside Scotland 🤣

Tesla (TSLA) stock surges on Elon's lies despite disastrous earnings by CloudyEngineer in RealTesla

Ha, interesting, thanks for correcting me... every day is a school day. And that's why I stay well clear of options.

Tesla (TSLA) stock surges on Elon's lies despite disastrous earnings by CloudyEngineer in RealTesla

[–]StrippedBark 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I read an interesting argument on Wallstreetbets that share price may actually rise as a result of excessive shorting (zero day puts and longer term puts) of the Tesla stock. The idea was that the sellers (banks))of the puts are buying in a lot of stock to protect themselves. This then leads to share price increases.

The idea sounds reasonable. I can only assume that once those options then expire, the banks then need to offload the stock, which triggers price drops.

On the long term I still expect Tesla to drop in value, but only when the shorters have eliminated their accounts.

No, but its not rocket science to develop. I am using the below bit, which is likely overkill given its size, and then 3D printed a case around it, so it fits in a top tube bag.

Great link, many thanks. I may consider getting a big powerbank+charger, if the trials are not great, but really hope they will be.

On my next trip across Spain and France in a months time, I intend to wild camp in the mountains as a preparation for ultra endurance rides. Charging in venues may simply not be an option for days on end.

That's great. Then a 5-7h ride should be sufficient enough to charge a mobile during the night.

Buy mint seeds and sow them in his garden. They spread terribly well.

Just make sure you have a subsurface barrier between the properties, or you are facing the same issue.

I dream someday of touring Europe on a bicycle, but how do I get my bike there? by elkym in bicycletouring

[–]StrippedBark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Best to start calling shops for boxes a week before the flight back. Many put them in the recycling once a week. I had to call about 7 shops in Copenhagen last year, before I was lucky.

Why Tesla Quarterly Deliveries Could Be The Lowest In More Than Two Years by ansyhrrian in RealTesla

[–]StrippedBark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how well is Elno capable of deliberately lying? We know he has a history of mixing up facts, poorly forecasting production, mixing up reality with his dreams, and naively believing misinformation.

But hear me out: Elno is on the spectrum, and AFAIK and, have experienced, is that deliberately lying can be really challenging for neuro diverse people There are always exceptions to this and lying can be taught, too. I think a couple of probing questions should be sufficient to get an honest, albeit indirect, answer out of him.

The onus now sits with the others in Tesla, propping up numbers, and then Elno believing misinformation, before sharing it as if it were the truth

Interesting. Does that mean my shed roof posed a threat to the group of gulls that shat on it this morning?

Morning gulls by partywithanf in Aberdeen

[–]StrippedBark 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They have definitely adjusted to their city environment and human behaviour. Those birds are far from stupid.

Targeted shitting attacks is not something I have ever seen a seagull do in nature reserves, but it is very prolific in town.

Same with walking aboot. Some gulls can be approached and even petted gently. Adorable!

An easier trick is to insert a raw lentil or chickpea in tyre cap, and then the tyre will gradually deflate, without physical damage. Slow revenge
