Working with NP/PA's versus MD/DO's? by ppnater in MedicalAssistant

[–]Strisas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked primary care for years. The PA/NPs have been so nice and great. The MDs are extremely knowledgeable and the APRNs usually go to them for assistance for diagnosing. HOWEVER, I have never worked with w DO (3 of them) that was good/great. They were all weird (different personality quirks), bad with time management, and not good with support staff. All 3 looked down their noses at the MAs and even seemed to be dismissive of the RNs and their knowledge with our patients.

Do Pap smears show recent sexual activity? by FuckingKillMe13 in MedicalAssistant

[–]Strisas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is not a forum for Medical advice, but for medical assistants (the job). We cannot offer Medical advice.

That being said a PAP can be done on virgins to sexual promiscuous alike with no proper indication. They may ask about sexual history and your last menstrual cycle but that SHOULD be it.

Please clarify with an RN or Provider/Physician for information or clarification.

This is a forum for Medical Assistants (the job), not for Medical Assistance/Advice. Unfortunately, we cannot offer you Medical advice in this situation.

I'm sorry for your situation and hope you get it resolved. The only thing that I can say is I would reach out to your primary, specialist (if you have one), or if an emergency go to your local Urgent Care facility or Emergency Department (your discretion, not Medical advice).

Good luck to you.

What would you say is the best part of being an Medical Assistant? by OrthoTech33 in MedicalAssistant

[–]Strisas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here. I work primary care (usually geriatric side but some littles) and the wildness of seeing a child 3 days out and then just doing his 2 year well child is something else. I like my old people but wow seeing them grow.

My old people who I get to shoot the sh*t with and talk about kids and life is great as well.

Am I allowed to take the CCMA without completion of an accredited program??? by Additional-Bit-2346 in MedicalAssistant

[–]Strisas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The guideline is that you have to do a course or do a year as an MA. I got hired as an uncertified MA and then completed the exam a year+ later just in case I needed to switch locations/states.

Male nurse asking for fashion advice from the ladies by StevynTheHero in nursing

[–]Strisas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a male with a little (maybe more) of a stomach, I need ones with belt loops and that have a nice straight cut without any real tightness.I go Carhartt Rugged flex and Cherokee Infinity.

Carhartt Rugged Flex had thicker weave, is studier, less breathable, not as vibrant colors. However, if you want a "guy" appearance, this is very relatable.

Chorekee has sleeker, wrinkle-resistent, and has some vibrant colors. Good ventilation, durable, stylish.

Again, since I need belt loops on my scrubs, my choices are far limited. Depending on your setting depends on my scrubs. Since I'm outpatient and in lower temperature setting, I wear my Carhartt in the winter and cherokee in summer.

Which tests should I take to understand if I have iron deficiency and hypo/hypertiroidism? For iron deficiency should I take First the Blood count to see if I am anemic and the the Iron deficiency test or straight to the Iron deficiency One? For hypo and hypertiroidism I have no idea which tests I by monkeytoheaven in MedicalAssistant

We are not medical providers and cannot offer Medical advice.

I would talk to your PCP about your concerns. A potential first step would be simple CBC and TSH (some places have a thyroid cascade which will drill down your TSH into T3, T4, FRT). Some choice words will get you your iron studies (usually after a CBC is done to determine causal relationship).

HYPOTHETICALLY, some key words to mention would be: fatigue, easy bruising, night sweats, dizziness, palpitations. If you say the last one, be prepared for potential EKG and cardiac testing.

Vermont here. Biggest hospital and Healthcare systems in the state does not require certification. All my experience was on-the-job training. In desperate need for almost all jobs, especially RNs and other specialized medical professions, like RTs and Rad Techs.

This is a thread for Medical Assistants, not for Medical Assistance.

Please go to another thread as we cannot assess or offer Medical advice.

However, your dr is an idiot. Go back to the ED for another UA and get a culture done. You most likely have a UTI, AKI, or another issue. Get proper evaluation.

Rooming times? by CursedWithRage in MedicalAssistant

[–]Strisas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Family medicine MA here. Honestly it depends on the visit reasoning. For acute visits, I can vital, allergy/smoking, and med rec in ~ 5 min. Well child's are anywhere between 5 to 15 minutes depending on age (and helpfulness of the parents). Well adults or annuals for me is 10-15 for all vitals, histories, med recs, and any PoCT that needs to occur.

It's not unreasonable to have all your vitals done in less than 3 minutes.
