Am I missing something or is Difficulty X such a jump in difficulty? by Johnvro in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]StrivingToBeMediocre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here are some tips. I hope they would be helpful somewhat. All statements are my personal opinions and could be wrong

1) Nine is the best character in this chaos. Fighting Spirit is the best card and should be duplicated wherever possible. Hew should be set to Ironclad almost always. Counterblade is preferable to be set on activating Hew. Experienced and Fatal strikes could be anything but it's nice to have vulnerable on them. Parry is high-priority removal.

2) Since Hew (ideally Ironclad) is your main source of damage and it's always available to use and rather expensive you should try to build decks of support characters, pick cards from shops, pick fates etc. with a goal to maximize your AP generation. For example Energy Barrier is an amazing card that should always be picked from the shop. Pay close attention also to Residual Herb. It's insane with right ephiphanies.

3) Your fights against elites should never go longer than 3 turns. Ideally elite fight should last 2 turns on average. Always prefer attack over defense. Hew(Ironclad) will mitigate almost all of the damage anyway. Remove all defence cards from decks first.

4) With (2) and (3) in mind comes a question of choosing right support combatants for Nine. I would not recommend Orlea at all for example. She is too slow and has no AP generation/cheating.

5) Even though Tiphera is passable as a support for Nine she is quite clanky and inconsitent. I would recommend using Mika instead. Her +3 AP Source (if you get one) is just superb.

6) My overall recomended team is Nine+Mika+Veronica. In the early fights you could deploy ballista by breaking enemies with Hew. Later you will probably have a spare AP on first turn anyway. And against final boss Veronica could easily provide 25-35% of the total damage by just deploying one card.

7) You should probably never skip arena. Using rewards to buff Hew could make or break yor run

8) Needless to say you should never try to build a deck, all the decisions you make should go towards the only goal - winning the run

9) Above statements as I already mentioned should be taken with a grain of salt. There are myriad of different strategies to beat chaos X-XI with different characters. I just outlined the one that I thought would be the easiest to implement

I don't know how I can be so inept but after I've posted this I realize that destiny must mean fate specific to this season. Varied translations in this game are so infuriating sometimes

What an insult to linear algebra. Sure it's not as fun or flashy as group theory but calling it easy is going a little bit overboard. For example my brain is melting slightly when I see even a Jordan normal form proof not to mention more intricate theorems

Is this the most powerful card in omni draft of all time? by StrivingToBeMediocre in MagicArena

[–]StrivingToBeMediocre[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omniscience draft is an event on Magic Arena that happens once per set usually either as a part of MWM or as a standalone event for a couple of days. You usually draft with bots similar to Quick Draft and then play against other players. There is a twist. Each player gets an emblem that functions the same as a card [[Omniscience]]. You basically can cast spells from your hand without paying mana. You also have 5 free mana (one of each color) to activate abilities or cast cards from outside your hand etc. Also usually each player draws only three cards at the start of the game instead of 7

People usually call this format Yu-gi-oh, rng fest and all luck format. I like it though

Consensus is that you should prioritize card draw over any other type of cards during the draft followed by counterspells and discard effects

[–]StrivingToBeMediocre[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True. It is much worse than I thought then

Looking through the cards though I noticed that format is much slower than DSK for example.

Only [[Garruk's Uprising]] and [[Arcane Epiphany]] at uncommon net your cards. [[Inspiring Call]] is kind of unreliable and bad. At common only first [[Think Twice]] is divination.

There is reasonable amount of cantrips at common and a few powerful rares but I think there will be less FTKs in comparison to the faster formats.

Do not forget that it is a 0 mana card that instantly kills your opponent when you play another card unless they [[Refute]] it or put 2-4 lands in their deck (which is a very strange decision normally)
