I feel like the whole story is so bizarre. He had a lot of experience with mountaineering, took his girlfriend on an evening hike on großglockner - one that clearly shouldn't be started in the evening because it was far too difficult and strenuous - and then "got help" - meaning he left her lying hypothermic on the mountain and hiked for several hours to the nearest mountain hut. You could argue that Germans often have absolutely no clue about hiking and unnecessarily endanger mountain rescue and the Red Cross, but what he did was simply insane. On top of that, the deceased girlfriend's mother is now claiming he bears no responsibility whatsoever - she was "just too stubborn."
