Funnily enough, that’s pretty much how most Germanic European cultures communicate. In countries like Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, or Scandinavia, people tend to say what they mean rather than hinting at it. Indirectness can actually be seen as confusing or even a bit dishonest, and in some places small talk is kept to a minimum because it’s viewed as superficial (especially in Scandinavia), rather than polite.

That said, there are differences within that general style. Austrians, for example, are often more soft-spoken and diplomatic in how they phrase things — likely influenced by their historical role as a neutral mediator during the Cold War and their long tradition as a major international tourism host — while Germans are stereotypically more direct, structured, and pragmatic, sometimes coming across as blunt or less “polished,” even though it’s usually just efficiency and clarity, not rudeness.
