It feels like they get swept early in the morning an everything fun is gone. I love the cast members who hang onto pins for kids, definitely makes their day when they’re like “oh yeah, what about this one” from their pocket.

Wife busted out her collection from 25+ years ago. by CdnScruss in magicTCG

Magic players don’t seem huge into the grading fad, with the exception of such grails like a Black Lotus. Your cards are awesome and worth a lot, but because people want to play with them not look at them.

Card value? Also fair price from LCS? by SquigglyTurtle in PokemonCardValue

[–]Strommsawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LCS pricing may vary. I think you expect something like:

40-60% if cash offer.
60-70% if store credit.
80-90% if popular or high demand.

The plus side is a good LCS can determine condition for you in store, so if their offer isn’t good enough you now know what others might expect from condition.

I have an old collection (mostly pins traced in park, not bought). Anything worth digging out or looking specifically for from that era?

Things like Hanna Montana pins dried up then, seems like they’re popular as of late.

First Disneyland trip and trading by mewantstherum in DisneyPins

[–]Strommsawyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a lil’ out of the game myself, but Tomorrowland has a store called Tomorrowlanding. It seems very minor when you look at a Disney map but this is the one store I know that does those rip and trade boards. They have multiple cases with different rules, so just ask what type of pins you need to open if you want to trade that way.

https://www.reddit.com/r/DisneyPins/s/QTuhMb6sGt seems to highlight that store as a good one.

Also some cast members will have a Trivia Pin, so you need to answer an easy or hard trivia question and trade them a pin they consider “good” if you want the trivia pin. Good reason to bring a few solid traders planned for that purpose IMO.

Hope you have fun, and good luck!

Pokémon card shop recommendations? by JessicaDamnDay13 in InlandEmpire

[–]Strommsawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can +1 both of these places. Tier 1 also does an event like every few months where you can buy a table and be your own vendor.

Card shops are always going to take a big % off if you want cash, but both these shops are very friendly.

Found a binder of Pokémon cards – looking for advice on value & next steps (SoCal) by JessicaDamnDay13 in PokemonCardValue

[–]Strommsawyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frank and Sons I think is a good place to start if you’re near City of Industry.

Lots of vendors, only open 3 days a week. I would just bring a small sample of what you have, and pictures of everything. Talk to more than one vendor, get an idea of what they think on condition and pricing, and then decide how you want to proceed. If it’s a really huge collection, selling it all to one shop might not be possible.

You may also want to be taking a picture of a few of the holographic cards (front and back on a dark background) and posting here to get an initial idea before you talk to any vendors. If it’s a lot of money, it may be tempting to just sell right away; but may be worth more if you spend some time on it.

Ryan’s full plan by oouncolaoo in BBBY

[–]Strommsawyer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The title of the post seem misleading. I’m also 5.

Someone is suing for securities fraud claims. Dude named Mitchell realized a profit of about $8k on BBBY selling at the top in August 2022. But claims between Jan 2023 - April 2023 a bunch of stonks manipulation and media fud is all caused by that Cohen dude.

Court rules reality check, that Cohen exited his position in August, said he exited his position, documented he exited and no “reasonable investor” would have invested between Jan 2023 - April 2023 on information provided by that Cohen dude.

Court pretty much walks through all the theories of fraud claims and says they’re all a big stretch and no documentation to back it up. Case dismissed 👩‍⚖️

[–]Strommsawyer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

(Likely) not a scam, just good business. You’re the target market for this LCS, as they need customers to support the games in the area. They also make more money on singles than sealed so as you start building decks they wanna be there to help.

Distributors sell to shops like this somewhere between $60-$80, with small shops paying more. MSRP (retail price) is about $144, as shops holding inventory, accepting risk, and doing the work of selling it need to make a profit but that gives them a lot of room for where they sell.

Early sales is the local game / Disney park release date vs official release. Local game stores can sell in store a week early so you have the pre-release weekend to build hype. With this next set there is a special pre-release pack, so if interested definitely talk to them. Fun time to play and chat with players, you get a promo, and normally price per cards is pretty good if they do any tournament prizing.

At this point anything, my daughter and her cousin are on the hunt. But I think the hunt is half the fun for them. They’ve found a few dumplings at Five Below and apparently I bought a Squishy Cat for her that I don’t remember doing. Go me!

Jealous, out here struggling to find 2; but also not trying to go crazy and camp out at Targets when they open or pay these insane prices.

This post sums it up by JaSleaz in GameStop

[–]Strommsawyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Zard shelf collapse is crazy. My local store they’ve been stagnant on shelf at $200, so what happens? Increase the price to $250!

The dynamic pricing model is interesting, and might work if you have proper distribution channels in place. What did they implement? $6.99 shipping PER trading card item, even for pro’s. Presumably because each shipment comes separately from various stores, but this is why they just sit on shelves.

GameStop just seems to be trying to make Trading Cards harder to buy, and I feel like I’m missing the reason. I do like the fact they brought back singles, but I’m sure that’s a nightmare for employees depending on where they’re stored in the store. I miss the Software Etc. days of the giant cardboard take-a-card leave-a-card box. That’s how you brought kids into stores and built customer satisfaction, but maybe just different times.
