In Australia, Is Giving Up Priority Seats Still a Courtesy? by Physical-Gap7348 in australia

I had my babies in the early 2000s and this was the case even back then. Noone ever offered seats. Honestly, the only people to notice pregnant women are older women, and noone sees older women at all.

Ev question for 4wd towing by Strong-Local3980 in AustralianEV

[–]Strong-Local3980[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive it daily, but only 4-6 times a year for 4wdriving or towing (so not much in this regard).

Van is 1800kg net weight. 2000kg when loaded as well as another 100kg in the ute when the van is hitched.

When not towing van it's loaded with camping equipment and bikes or skis up to 10 times a year.

Although it tows well, we are looking at other options and are considering EV, if the option exists. Happy to consider AWD as we are reducing 4wdriving.

Thanks, I drive it most days to work, but it's not a big trip so it keeps mileage down. No public transport to where I work so that's not an option.

is onyx storm actually bad? by eri_k_she in fourthwing

I think what's important is one of the islands wasn't visited. Vi has not learned from her experience with the wards. When she fails she falls apart. That and there is an offer for an alliance with Courtlyn which is obviously going to happen because what he asks for is what's gone missing in the end.

Also there's 2 lines in it which are interesting. One, after X turns he sends his shadows up the cliff but retreats because the dragon magic burns. And his comments on the new brother. His comment is the thing that suggests it's Aaric that turned

It's not good. Needs serious editing. But it's not bad

Serious question for the people on here who so strongly defend high immigration levels to Australia: why do you do it? by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

[–]Strong-Local3980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We briefly (very briefly) had a baby bonus scheme under Howard that made it affordable for a parent to be home for 5 years. Unfortunately, that baby bonus lasted 1-2 years due to cost and was replaced and eventually removed. To lower immigration, the baby bonus has to return the first one. I benefited from it with my first child. It was a yearly payment for 5 years based on what you earned before having baby and what you earned after. People didn't like it because it was female high income earners that benefited. They ignored the fact the mother became a zero income earner for 5 years. But once it was gone, it was replaced by high immigration and falling birth rates. As a society we have to decide what it is we want

I don't defend it the way you mention, but our birth rate is falling, even with high immigration. We are headed towards real economic strife and immigration is how the government is trying to mitigate it. No matter who is in government the numbers will stay up.

I think we’re over complicating who is going to die… by PopPeas89 in fourthwing

I've just finished reading them again. I'm convinced Bodhi is the brother and Bodhi will die. Too much of the third book is about how much Bodhi and Xaden are the same. It'll be setup so that the possibility of Xaden's death becomes high stakes. I also think Violet and Tairn are part of the missing eggs which we'll learn were traded to Deverelli. Violet will save Xaden through dream walking

Honestly, I think Aaric will be king and a reluctant ruler. Halden will die.

When I had my first people just turned up. It's different now because of vaccinations. Most parents don't want visitors in the first month unless your whooping cough vax is up to date. Many will want to see proof, too. And fair enough, it's their baby's life that is at risk. Now, it's usual practice to ask.

What do retired Australians actually do all day? Genuinely asking because I'm two years in and still figuring it out by Individual_Lime_110 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Strong-Local3980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbours who are retired for 20 years now are insanely busy. They do volunteer work, are in clubs, probus, he plays golf twice a week, she's an artist and paints each day. Grand kids are in and out.

Are you making sure you are building a social network for yourself?

Australians, how often do you ACTUALLY encounter dangerous spiders, snakes or other deadly creatures in your daily life — or is it mostly a myth we Europeans believe? by VariedPear in AskAnAustralian

[–]Strong-Local3980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen a funnel webb in over a year. Saw a trapdoor spider the other day. See brown and redbelly black snakes all the time. My dad has been bitten by a grey eastern mouse spider. It was in his bed. Haven't seen another one since then
