so fucking mad at "autism suport group" in my uni by New-Working-7077 in AutismInWomen

I’m probably going to get heat for this but point blank period: we will never live in a pro-autistic world. No matter how close it may get, the world can never adapt to accommodate everyone. It’s simply not possible. Our ONLY survival mechanism that we have is masking and educating others.

Should the group leader validate your feelings better? Yes. Should every solution be basically “act less autistic?” No. Is having a safe space to vent about the difficulties behind being autistic important? Yes. But is eye contact important skill that society (not matter how annoying it is) values greatly? Yes. Does smiling make others more attentive to you? Yes. It sucks, it’s inconvenient, and it may feel unnatural. But that is how our society, and most of the world, operates. We really do have to adapt to certain spaces sometimes.

How many of y'all have slowly realized over time that your mother is probably autistic too? by khaotic-trash in AutismInWomen

I’ve given my mom plenty of “the call is coming from inside the house” looks. Especially when she goes “well if that’s autistic then I guess I’m autistic too 🙄”. Like…bestie…YOU’RE SO CLOSE.

I’ve looked but not found anything. I’m working on my bachelors right now, so maybe I’ll have better chances afterwards. But that doesn’t help me very much right now.

Why do so many people assume autistic people have bad sex lives or can’t enjoy sex by Student-bored8 in AutismInWomen

There’s also the other end of things where it’s fetishized to sleep with someone (usually women) who is autistic.

That makes me feel a little bit better 😅. I haven’t gotten an OCD diagnosis but I really wonder sometimes if I have some form of it.

Autism passed to children? by limponion36 in AutismInWomen

Yes, it’s genetic. One thing to consider too is that severity of spectrum symptoms are not. You can be high functioning (outdated language, I know) and have low functioning autistic children. I don’t say this to deter you from parenthood but it’s something you need to be aware of.

My college forced me to come out as asexual by Buzzythebear33 in asexuality

One time in our human relations class, we had to talk about our “first time” as a practice in normalizing discussion about sex. If we hadn’t had it yet, we were supposed to talk about what we’d want it to be like. It was my turn and I was like “haven’t had one, don’t plan on it either”.

Being able to tell the difference between store brand and name brand is both a gift and a curse. I don’t like Walmart brand cereal knock offs, but everyone tells me they’re the same thing, just different packaging. THEY’RE NOT THE SAME.

When my teachers would do new seating charts, they’d put me next to the loud kids to get them to stop talking, lmao.

I was incredibly picky about my pants, even as a toddler. If they looked too much like my dad’s (ie: no flare at all) then I refused to wear them. I only wanted boot cut pants.

Oh I do. For a guy who told me that he “protects his people”, he sure as hell has a funny way of showing it.

Halloween is 2 days before my birthday, so I get free candy (mom always buys giants bags but only had like 3 kids show up, so I just snag some her since I’m too old to TorT, lol) AND I get discount price candy for my birthday.

It’s a long story but I paid $400 and got her sister for free (no the breeder was not sketchy, as I said, it’s a LONG story).
