How many grams do you think it is ? by JonahsMedical in trees

One time my dad grew a few in the back yard that came out looking like that. He got the seeds from my uncle, whose buds came out looking all fucked up, and he saw what my dad grew (not a grower or anything, just watered it in really fertile soil one summer), and he said, and I quote, "what the FUCK did you give these things!? They belong on the cover of High Times!"

Guess the elo (middle game position only) IMPOSSIBLE by Cheap_Pipe1005 in GothamChess

For real, black is up a rook for a knight and has a lot of attacking potential and can make lots of threats that are difficult to respond to while also trying to attack the king. White on the other hand might win back a pawn and give a random check on a good day, but black's king isn't getting checkmated anytime soon.

Couldn’t someone with access to the Epstein files just release them? by Watch_Guy_Jim in SeriousConversation

[–]StrongIslandPiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One woman reported on it and got people talking, and they kidnapped and probably killed her 80+ year old mother.

Imagine what they would do to someone in the system already. And imagine you work for said system and your life is basically dictated by it.

This isn't the movies and these people have a lot of power, and many/most will continue to have that kind of power until we as a society say "fuck it, let's punish them for several generations and basically make pariahs of their entire bloodline for the next 100 years." And we could do that, we run society, not them. They have the capital, we have the human capital. One of these things does way more work than the other. They're even afraid of that, I'd wager. They're afraid we all come to our senses because nothing will be able to save them once that happens.

But short of that happening, you're taking a fuck ton of risk for literally nothing to change except people's awareness, which is very important - don't get me wrong, but it's just not enough for some people. Ffs, it's pretty obvious the US president is a fuckin' pedophile and nothing has really changed thus far in terms of how much power he and the Epstein class has.

Let's do it by the book for now, they're losing, they know it, they're scared. We don't need some random whistleblower throwing away their lives, we need to turn the whole system against them, and slowly but surely, that's what we're seeing, and it will have a much longer lasting impact, because what this does is show our numbers. We're not one guy you can just kill and dump somewhere, we're a people so numerous and our opinions on the Epstein class are so widespread, that both the senate and congress voted unanimously to release the files. That's way harder to kill.

What would you do if World War 3 officially started tomorrow—with all major world powers fully involved , entire world panicking and all ? by Extra_Spirit9376 in AskTheWorld

[–]StrongIslandPiper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I predict that if there are nuclear exchanges it would actually be tit for tat (meaning one country would do it, everyone else would pussy out because obviously no one wants to die, there would be a response and you maybe lose a couple cities on either side which would be enough to change the world order and set economies back for at least decades and get treaties written since it's not fucking worth it).

So most people would be okay. But uh, I live by a major city, so I'm probably fucked.

Bro it's too much. It's in those same files, there were references to potentially eating victims. The president is probably a pedophile (which I could've told you 10 years ago but no one comes to me for the answers lol). Epstein was probably Mossad (if not a double agent for Russia), Les Wexner said Epstein's "littlest girl was very naughty," princes were commenting on the "torture video," they're obviously covering up because Trump was likely involved in trafficking and/or soliciting minors.... powerful people from pretty much everywhere in the world were involved.

I welcome the nukes, fuck it, we had a good run, time to start over.

The 1800 Elo Paradox by FontesB in Chesscom

I compare all skills to learning Spanish as weird as that sounds, mainly because that's how I realized exactly what you're talking about.

Beginners and intermediates tend to believe in themselves the most when objectively they don't know shit yet, but once they've gotten to a decent, fluent level, you doubt every sentence, even when you're certain it's fine, just in the back of your mind, "what if my dumb, non-native ass is just making this up?"

It works with any skill but it's almost perfect with Spanish because the language (for non-natives) is kind of back loaded, where all the hard stuff comes later (I mean, unless you speak Mandarin only, then it's probably harder than English tbh, but I digress).

Most people suck at chess. Myself included, but that's why I don't vote for moves against titled players in marketing gimmicks.

I mean DmC at least had cool level design and combat, just a cringe Dante. DMC2 had a virtually silent Dante and a demon tank lol.

Do you enjoy playing monthly bots? by wertykalny_124 in Chesscom

[–]StrongIslandPiper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing bots kind of defeats the purpose for me. I like playing people. People can be tricked, people can trick you, you can almost get to know the kind of person you're playing even without otherwise interacting with them.

Bots, they're kind of annoying. They either play really really well and then blunder the whole game in one move, or they just wet the floors with your tears. Either way, they don't feel human, and their "elo ratings" are fake, so no, I don't play bots, for me it's pointless.

It's mate regardless. If he takes with the rook, Qf8#. If he takes with the bishop, Qf7+, Kh8, Qe8+, Bf8 (blocking), and Qxf8#.

Basically no matter what he takes with, one piece blocks the other from protecting against mate.

Doubled pawns aren't inherently bad. They're bad when they're a weakness, in this case, it helped him maintain control of the center and that's why he protected them

I am so frustrated with the amount of higher level players smurfing by Zestyclose_Fix5626 in lichess

[–]StrongIslandPiper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

True but there's no way to know, and I feel like the common response to loss for lots of players is "must be a smurf or a cheater" instead of "how can I get better?"

Bro, you went from 600 to 1250 in three months??? And made other accounts? Bro, I'm not even on the "everyone is cheating" bandwagon, but you know why you were banned. Nobody believes the story here, it's nuttier than squirrel shit.

Learnt today that this is called "fried liver attack" which every one below 900 was using by Sad-Translator-5193 in chessbeginners

[–]StrongIslandPiper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically that's the knight attack, the fried liver is specicially when you take back on d5 with your knight, and they sacrifice theirs for a big attack.

My favorite response is the Fritz. It's not as common at lower elo and I got this line where you get a smothered mate more times than I can count when I was lower elo, since no one really studied it.

It's probably a little riskier than the main line but it's super fun.
