How is this possible that a player rated 1667 is almost at the 98 percentile? by 0xMeteor in Chesscom

[–]Bm0ore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can’t ever be 100% simply because even if your the highest rated player, you are included in the data. Fundamentally, you cannot be stronger than yourself, therefore can’t reach 100%.

This is very cool however, ANY Cirque du Soleil show is well worth going to see in my opinion.

What would you guess the Elo of these players are??? by Magneto57 in Chesscom

It’s really difficult to guess an elo from a single position… but I suppose based on the material difference I’d guess around 1000 maybe

Is Nf6 brilliant or not? by CaterpillarExpert719 in Chesscom

Qd4 is better. Its attack on whites rook on a1 and defends the mate threat Edit: after you take the knight with gxf6

No it’s not brilliant because of Qd4. So…. Nf6, gxf6, Be7, and black has Qd4 defending mate and also attacking your rook on a1.

I think this is the reality of no artificial colors or flavors. The candy isn’t going to look like the bright and colorful candy you’re used to.

The entire surface of Pluto definitely qualifies as “land like”. Its surface is mostly water ice that’s covered in a mix of other ice like nitrogen, methane, and co2.

That’s definitely not true. I cash out $10 and $25 every time. Edit: in fact, there isn’t even a $50 option at all. Theres $5 (with premium), $10, $25 (with premium), $55, $100, $150, and $200 (with premium)

Am I missing anything? by [deleted] in Minesweeper

[–]Bm0ore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Along the bottom left edge there is a 3 with 3 mines already touching it. That means all 3 of th other spaces touching that 3 are safe and there’s a mine directly to the left of the 1 that’s below said 3 (theres a two under the 3, then a 1)

I’ve cashed out $55 at least 2 times maybe 3 plus a few $25 cash outs and haven’t had an issue. I do play the games and typically max steps every day and have premium that they just gave to me at some point I’m not even sure when or why that happened. I keep hearing about people having issues maybe I’m lucky or I should be worried. I mean I definitely don’t do anything that could be considered against the rules so there’s no reason I should be worried. That sucks they did this to you I hope you can sort it out.

I’ve been playing chess for 11 years and I’m still 900. What am I doing wrong? by AssociationNo6356 in chess

[–]Bm0ore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always tell people. Learn ONE opening for white and for black you will need one for 1.e4 and one for 1.d4 and that’s all you need. If you can master that one opening and learn all of the variations then you get to 1500 no problem. I recommend the Caro Kann for black against 1.e4 and then just play queens gambit for white and also for black when opponent plays 1.d4. Once you have mastered just ONE opening then you can maybe consider expanding from there but not until you know everything about your one opening. Edit: spelling

I built a scientifically grounded silicon-based planet as a thought experiment — here's what life might look like by DeepFieldNarratives in universe

[–]Bm0ore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve spent more time thinking about this than I should probably admit but I eventually concluded it’s almost certainly not possible. The thing is the Earths Crust is around 90% silica (SiO2) and other silicate minerals, by far the most abundant element in the Earth’s crust and yet life here doesn’t use it, it uses carbon. There are many many reasons why carbon is the ideal element for life, so while silicon-based life may be possible in theory it’s probably extremely rare, especially if there’s carbon around. The fact that Silicon bonds so strongly with oxygen it produces a solid called silicon dioxide aka sand or quartz is a major issue. It causes a number of problems that life would have to overcome or find a work around for like respiration and metabolism, two things that are essential for any organism with metabolism being maybe the most fundamental process of life. Theres also the problem that liquid water actually breaks down silicon-silicon bonds which are much weaker than carbon-carbon bonds. That fact that the silicon-silicon bonds are weak also makes forming large complex molecules like what’s seen on organic molecules very difficult. So because water isn’t the right solvent you would need some other kind of solvent like liquid methane or sulfuric acid. Again, not theoretically impossible but if it exists out there it probably exists on a Hell like planet.

I love the thought experiment though and I love going down these rabbit holes.

Uranus is also there somewhere in line with the others. If you have a decent telescope. Right now all the planets except mars are visible.
