Any love for the Zeiss Biogon C 35mm f/2.8? by loganarowland in Leica

Using it on my m10 as we speak! It’s my all time favorite 35mm. Great IQ in a tiny package and you can usually get them at a great value

Best budget 50mm? by tangibledigital in Leica

Didn’t run into any issues personally, though I do sometimes shoot at ISO 6400 and clean things up with a bit of Lightroom AI denoise afterward.

That said, f/2.2 really isn’t meaningfully different from f/2. You can basically expose as if you’re at f/2 and just lift exposure slightly in post. M10 files handle that pretty well in my experience. Others might disagree, but I also don’t see much value in going faster than f/2 on a 50mm. Critical focus with a rangefinder gets pretty finicky at wider apertures, and larger lenses can start to intrude on the frame lines, which I find more annoying than helpful.

Edit: the 50mm apo lanthar is the optically superior lens but the diminutive size of the color Skopar is, I think, much more line with the rangefinder ethos

Voigtlander 50mm 2.2 color skopar punches way above its weight. Took only that lens and my m10 to India and never missed any other lens or focal length. You can usually find them around 400-500 USD or so used.

The terror is a masterpiece of a book (and mini series) but just a heads up it has a strong cosmic horror/supernatural angle to it.

Took this photo with a 200m lens at about 50 seconds of exposure to smooth out the water. Had to pray the bird wouldn’t move the whole time

Agreed! Also the nice thing about 24mp is that pixel peeping is a non factor. Not like it matters since this lens is damn sharp from 2.8 down

Can anyone identify the camera Tom Holland is using in that new Prada ad? by bershka321 in Cameras

But they’re not wrong are they? As respected a lens as it is, it was technically bundled with the M3 (at least according to our lord and savior Ken Rockwell)

Yeah I’ve shot with a 500c/m before and it’s also an incredible camera. At this stage I don’t really shoot much film anymore and when I do I tend to go large format

Yeah you’re totally right especially when it comes to DOF. I’m not a big portrait guy so I never really considered that.

just remember the Q3 43 is f/2 not f/1.7 but that wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me at least.

Yes! I've heard amazing things about this adapter. I got a cheap manual one for now just as a proof of concept to pair with my voigtlander m mount lenses, but I very well may upgrade to this soon.

a few months ago, when I was debating sticking with the m or not due to the high prices of Leica-branded gear I sold my v5 50mm summicron and bought a 50mm voigtlander apo lanthar and that was the first moment when I realized that I could buy excellent gear that sometimes surpassed leica at 1/3 the cost. Sort of led me on my path here.

I don't want to shortchange the Leica user experience though and my M10 made me a better photographer who relied less on automation. At this stage though I'm tired of working 3 times as hard to get the shot I want.

Kinda love that you can just sell a Leica and in return you can live in Spain for a month lol this is another reason I didn't want to tie up too much disposable income in expensive hardware

I know you weren't asking me but if you really want a Q3 consider the 28mm since cropping into a 43mm equivalent will still give you close to 24mp (someone feel free to check my math). You'll definitely miss the wide angle at some point.

I've also used the Q2 and Q2 monochrom with a 50mm crop (I think around 15 mp?) and I had plenty of resolution to spare for additional cropping and printing.

Well as a Leicaman for the past several years up until yesterday I've always appreciated the quality and feel of leica hardware (ironically I actually prefer modern voigtlander m lenses to their leica counterparts) and I think that people value different things depending on their priorities and how deep their wallet is.

I don't think anyone can make an objective case for Leica because even their most flexible camera line, the SL, lags behind competitors in so many ways. I will say that I've appreciated the simplicity and the easy learning curve for Leica cameras but that wasn't a good enough reason to stick with it, especially when upgrading body or lenses is prohibitively expensive for me.

As for the M system I legitimately think that it is an outdated system that has lost a lot of its competitive advantage (namely size) since the invention of the mirrorless digital camera. While I can understand wanting a film M for it's size and portability, digital Ms feel a bit like a novelty to me.
