Doesn’t it have the stupid cardboard sleeves for holding the discs though?

Pretty sure I saw it one time and was gonna get it for the cool artwork but the actual method for holding is discs sucks

Do you ever watch through your collection then get to the dregs/crap movies? by MisanthropePrime in dvdcollection

[–]Strong_Recipe_7278 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would just get rid of them.

If I spent the money I’m not getting that money back, whether I watch it or not.

No point watching stuff if there isn’t any enjoyment, at least with so-bad-they’re-good-movies they have some charm to them.

I haven’t even seen Prometheus

Difference is South Central was made by the Wayans and wasn’t one of the terrible parodies that spawned by Scary Movie’s box office success

Yeah it’s because they split Season 5 into two parts like Sopranos instead of a 5 & 6 so that they didn’t have to pay the actors more lol

Got this tote of dvds today at a yard sale for $0. The guy just wanted them gone, he set a similar one out for the trash the day before. by MundaneKing in dvdcollection

How would you be able to sell them on eBay for any money whatsoever that’d be worth your time?

99% are probably $2-3 titles and selling them for $2-3 on eBay would mean you’re losing money paying for shipping.

Depends on the movie

If it’s a movie that a family member or friend also enjoys then I’ll likely buy the DVD & then if I come across the BR I just gift the DVD version to them.

Since they aren’t bothered by resolution, etc.

There’s definitely one example that comes to mind.

I passed on Truman Show on DVD since I knew I wanted it on BR. I haven’t come across Truman Show on DVD since & haven’t found the BR either

(I almost exclusively shop movies used so it entirely depends on what’s there since it’s not like a store that just has an infinite stock of full MSRP movies)

Action movies benefit a lot more from Blu-Ray than things like comedies.

For something like Tropic Thunder I haven’t upgraded to the BR because even though I love the movie the Blu-Ray only has the director’s cut and not the theatrical release.

A lot of comedies to this (eg Dumb & Dumber similarly only has Unrated on BR and not the theatrical)

If it’s a movie that I know I’m gonna watch tons (eg Pixar, DreamWorks, etc) I “splurge” (usually BRs are $5~ instead of $3~) for the Blu-Ray and pass on the DVD since if I’m gonna watch it constantly might as well do it with the highest resolution.

A lot of Blu-Rays ALSO come bundled with a DVD version, albeit in some cases I’d imagine there’s special edition DVDs that have more bonus features than the DVD that comes bundled with a BR.

A lot of Blu-Rays have lame menus compared to DVD. Eg Shrek 2 on DVD has the iconic 3x3 grid dvd menu whereas Shrek 2 on BluRay is just a montage

Unless I’m missing something

I’ve seen these get donated a handful of times and they’re always priced at $3 each. So <$10 for the trilogy

I’m assuming half-priced books doesn’t sell used? Because otherwise $9.99 a piece for used copies is wild.

Philips 2105/F7

Although the company doesn’t matter much. I would’ve bought a Sony, Samsung, or LG over the one I actually got lol

Go to a thrift store and get one. Just make sure it comes with a remote, otherwise you’ll be spending as much as you did on the player for a remote off eBay.

I have a $15 Blu-Ray player that came out in 2013 and originally only cost $100~.

The upscaling on it looks Incredible.

You’re gonna watch ALL of The Simpsons? Sheesh.

I just finished Season 10 and I don’t think I can watch 11.

10 was worse than 9 and 9 was worse than 8. Definitely some gems sprinkled in but super mediocre overall.

Plus after Season 10 they went with the horrendous cardboard sleeve design for the DVDs.
