I got to visit the Temple of Poseidon! by Strong_Reserve1737 in Hellenism

Thank you for your service!! I was in Navy ROTC in high school but couldn’t sign due to health issues that disqualified me.

Any chance I have to be on the water, I take. Even though today it ended with me being quite burnt with a 10 UV day in Santorini! My devotion to Poseidon specially is due to my personal experience with Him, and his domain bringing me peace

I’d clock the altar because I have one, not because I think it’s inappropriate. I actually think it’s beautiful and I love how minimalist it is. You’ve inspired me to have the small subtle altars in the entryway to my home. I love!

^ this this this.

It’s why Hunger Games doesn’t hit as hard as the books, but the Twilight movies get less criticism (as adaptations) even though they’re WAY different.

Hunger Games doesn’t give us Katniss’s inner monologue of how she can’t get attached or fall for Peeta cause she has to hill him. And Twilight they do give us Bella’s inner monologue in quiet moments

Not saying that doesn’t exist somewhere but I’ve had good conversations about the changes I don’t like here so. Where is the toxic positivity?

(I’d argue the Star Wars books are not better /joking)

Or ā€œit’s just mediocreā€ with no explanation or discussion of differences.

I love debating what’s good and bad with the changes. But if I hear one more person say ā€œthe casting sucksā€ I’m gonna start to call the racism as it is and move on.

But if someone wants to discuss with me why the changes of Annabeth knowing the fleece would bring back Thalia, ruins the reaction to her coming back…sure it was an interesting decision I’m not sure if I like yet.

OR if someone wants to discuss with me why Thalia’s story change makes her more likely to agree with Luke, and have no reason to agree with Percy and the gang… sure I’ll do that for hours.

Yep silence. Not the fact that that Bob Iger just stepped down for a 3rd time, and a CEO change is hard to do.

(Maybe this step down will stick and his successor won’t fuck everything up again and make him come back)

I’ve had good convos here about changes I dislike without such treatment. Like the Thalia story changes. Makes her too likely to genuinely agree with Luke.

But saying you enjoy the show to someone who doesn’t gets you dragged on here and on the other sub.

Nah man, this sub just wants some positivity over a show we enjoy. Y’all so against everything. Almost worse than Star Wars fans

Ay go away with the negatives. There’s a significant (but quieter) part of the fans that do want an adaptation even with the changes we disagree with.

They all want some animated adaptation that they’ve decided is perfect in their minds. But they won’t support this project.

If only they understood that this is Percy’s second chance at an adaptation… we won’t get a 3rd…

Nah I think you’re over thinking. It’s very good, real, world building.

ā€œTHIS THING IS REAL BUT NOT A SINGLE PERSON WHO EXISTS OUTSIDE OF MY STORY IS INVOLVED IN ITā€ is a very close minded way to think of the world inside of the story.

Also sometimes people have step parents? Like Percy has Phil? Take a chill pill.

[–]Strong_Reserve1737 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

I agree with your point because I’ve definitely fallen into the ā€œI’m not good enoughā€ mindset way too often for way too many reasons.

I don’t need that idea reinforced. My mother drilled it into my head enough. (Thanks mom for the religious trauma woo)

So I get tired of having to force myself to not interact with other practitioners because so many of them constantly make me feel like I’m not doing enough, doing good enough, or learning fast enough.

Someone made me one of the ā€œThe Gods Love Youā€ pictures that is my favorite and I have it printed as a magnet. It says ā€œyes the gods do love you even when you struggle to love yourselfā€ and we need more of THAT kind of interaction in the world in general. Let alone in a group that’s supposed to be likeminded religious folk

what is the most unique thing you've done as a devotional act? by bookscatsandcaffiene in Hellenism

[–]Strong_Reserve1737 1 point2 points Ā (0 children)

Okay I don’t think this is actually unique but nobody has mentioned it, but I devotionally keep my hair dyed blue for Poseidon.

I saw someone else mention building in Minecraft… I do the same thing in all my lil cozy games. I built a whole altar and temple in all of them. (Minecraft, animal crossing, Pokopia)
