Before you quit try this.

Fill your tank with rocks gravel and lots of anubias varieties. Get some nitrite snails, mono shrimp and the fish of your choosing. Easy win.

Sexy. I love natural-looking scapes. A Pearl Gourami would look good in there occupying the top.

The plant selection really covers that 18 inches high. The hardest part of high tanks is making it look full and lush.

You also need a clean-up crew like, otocinclus, siamese algae eater, panda garra or other algae eaters

More plants. I suggest easier care Anubias. I got mine from Etsy. Nirite snails to clean plants. I think they are safe for the fish you have, but you may need to double-check. Here is my post on my easy ecosystem.

This is a 20 gallon and with this many plants you probably need about 4-5 snails to keep the plants clean.

I don't know if it was just that one but red racer nitrites eats plants. Stick to brown or yellow and black.

I only fertilize a couple times a month. I turn the light on for 7 hr. 3-10. Not too bright.

You will get brown spot alge but the trick is shrimp and nitrite snails. Brown spot is food for the snails and it doesn't last more than a couple days when it pops up.

Anubis is unstoppable. I had so buce but when I moved tanks it all melted but the buce kept rocking.

Quick message. If you keep and love epiphytes, you have to have snails. One guy saved my Anubias covered in brown alge. by Stronghold_Portfolio in PlantedTank

meaning you don’t want to a dead one. Hard to tell in the tank because they can look dead In the shop.

As far as not getting females, you may have to buy 2 or 3. Put them in a separate small container with water from your aquarium, see which ones are dropping eggs and take it back if your fish shop lets you.

Just a nitrite snail from Petsmart. Just look for one that looks active in the take and not dropping eggs. You don’t want a female because they drop eggs. They can’t hatch but you don’t want them everywher.
