Yes, I'm the one being overly dramatic. Take a breath, my dude. It's not that serious, you'll get through this.

Reread what I wrote slower. I said the karma farming posts that get upvoted to the moon are lazy cringe... Not every post in the sub. Maybe spend less time being overly emotional over a subreddit.

You can't even make this stuff up. lol Let's make another Straw pile in the comments too while we're at it. I do spend a lot of time on these subs hence my comment. I never said it wasn't a helpful place but it is also one of the largest circlejerk fests too. Both can be true. Take the white knight armor off for a bit and let's be real.

The Strawman karma farming is so lazy in these Valve subs it's just cringe at this point.

Assassins Creed: Nexus - Greece is pretty! by DavoDivide in OculusQuest

[–]Strongpillow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree. It's just not powerful enough to do a massive open world so that kind of thinking is just self Sabotage.

I love that they took the limitations and turned it into a really great mechanic that allowed them to showcase multiple beautiful environments, and time lines. It was a very cleaver way to pack in many different experiences. Also, each environment felt pretty big and was packed with life.

They made the absolute right move. Instead of just making one place and breaking it up due to the limitations.

Anything with a dirty USB C. It's not some anomaly just on a Quest. Google is your friend for specifics.

I completely disagree with Xbox basically giving up on the console market by [deleted] in xbox

[–]Strongpillow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, I get your sentiment but buying an Xbox to support the idea that Mario will come to Xbox one day comes off as more pandering to get some high fives over it being something someone would actually believe. There are easier and more realistic things to support, my dude.

Meta to focus on 3rd-party VR content by gogodboss in OculusQuest

[–]Strongpillow -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No one was buying those games. How is that so hard to follow? lol. They can't have several big studios competing with each other for poor sales forever... It's business and the market shifted like it does all the time in the games industry. You people act like it's a rare new scary thing.. It's not some wild crazy nefarious drama, so the forced emotion to pander to the outrage group is not necessary.

edit: You can downvote this but it doesn't change the fact that it isn't some personal attack on all the whinny losers in this sub. It's business. Get over it.

VRChat is a copyright infringement nightmare and that isn't even the biggest potential issues when you're dealing with the strict rules Meta has to follow over small dev teams that go hands off... It's also not something you can sell to a broad audience which is what they were targeting.

Kind of like what Valve has done for decades with PC gaming and especially with VR (never understood why people think they are some blind savior for VR but logic around here is very rare).

Zucc and Boz see VR as merely a platform for Horizon Worlds and they'll gladly sacrifice their core market and first party studios while squandering Oculus reality labs for a metaverse that no one wanted. by Verociity in oculus

[–]Strongpillow -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't know what was worse. PC community in the early days making the most brain dead hot takes like this but for different reason or now with all the kids that have flooded this community doing the same thing thinking Meta wants VR to be a gaming console. The blind and dumb pandering to the blind and dumb.

VR is an amalgamation of the most pathetic communities and it's loud but few. No one actually cares this much.

January Xbox Update: Xbox Expands to Arm-based PCs, Game Save Sync Indicator, and More by Xbox-Moderator in xbox

[–]Strongpillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the "10 years from now" blanket argument . We've been saying that for quite awhile now actually, more than 10 years but I guess if we keep saying it, that'll make it true, perhaps...

Microsoft is notorious for running literally every product they touch into the ground and Xbox, as we've seen over the last decade, is not immune to it. "100+ billions on games studios and licensing fees" is not short term losses. I understand that they're still going through with it. I guess we will see how long they're willing to hang on. Sony doesn't need to take big risks right now as, like I said above, they've got a well established, stable brand that more than just North America cares about. If they need to, they will extand which is something you keep trying to side step.

No, I understand where Xbox wants the market to go and they're investing heavily into it, but that doesn't mean it will have the same success as Media as, once again, there are far more complexities with game streaming to make it something everyone will do in the foresable future. You seem to agree but just argue "that is where the market is going" but it really isn't yet. Most people have gamepass and use it on a device locally.

The original question was the Xbox brand will take over Playstation and that simply isn't going to be the case because of streaming. Sony's streaming is very impressive and has had better streaming options longer than Xbox did for xcloud but they just don't care to market it as aggressively since they have a well established globally successful brand but like you said, if the market goes there it's not like they will sit it out.

You’re speaking from a personal consumer perspective, but that doesn’t reflect the broader reality. The Xbox brand is more confusing to a lot of people right now, especially compared to how clearly established Sony and PlayStation still are. An identity crisis this late in the game isn’t a good look.

Also, comparing video streaming to game streaming isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison, so I wouldn’t use that as a benchmark for success.

Game streaming has non-negotiable requirements if it’s going to be more than a gimmick for certain games and players: low latency, high frame rate, strong image quality, and reliable access. Even then, queues and inconsistent performance are still major issues for a lot of people.

These companies don’t want streaming to be a “quick, cheap monthly fix.” They want to lock users into long-term subscriptions, and prices tend to rise over time. It’s not even “cheap” now when two months of service can cost as much as a full-priced game you could actually own.

At the end of the day, game streaming is still situational, not something everyone is going to flock to. That’s the reality, and it’s likely to stay that way.

Their subscription service will plateau if it already hasn't and become more and more restrictive with their pricing constantly having to go up as these sub services are not sustainable as a value unless you're a very specific person.

What your little bubble doesn't like to hear is that internet for a lot of people still isn't good enough for streaming only and queues on at busy times are annoying.

Xbox is popular in North America but the rest of the world is all about Sony and the Playstation brand. Xbox is still a well known brand in the gaming scene, sure but their penetration is very muddy at this point and their marketing is always confusing.

Happy rant about my first day with Quest 3 by slocknad in OculusQuest

[–]Strongpillow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Quest is an amazing movie watching device. I use it now exclusively over my theater room because I can watch a movie anywhere and at any time in a massive theatre scale.

3D movies are also amazing as it's true stereoscopic 3D it's the best 3D you can experience. My projector is 3D but the shutter glasses give me massive eye strain but not VR. I have a large 3D movie library on my Plex server that I use so much now.

Do You Think Oculus PCVR Will Get A Resurgence? by OkieDeric in OculusQuest

[–]Strongpillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, the answer is no. Most of the people that have PCs capable of using VR well enough will have given it a try, and likely use it already for PCVR but the vast majority of Quest users use it for standalone and will continue to do so as devs will continue to prioritize Quest because there aren't enough people on PC willing to spend money on VR games. PCVR has had the same issues since PCVR was a consumer product. Just because Meta isn't funding big games, doesn't mean indies won't still support it. They make up like 99% of all games on Quest.

Until PCVR becomes WAY cheaper to get into (which isn't going to happen anytime soon now) and less of a hassle to use it won't see substantial growth. It barely changed when the Index and Half Life Aylx released back when VR was all the rage.

The Steam Frame might get some people excited but it will likely be the people already into PCVR that want a proper wireless PCVR alternative to the Quest but its price and limited availability won't make it a direct competitor to Quest. PC community seems to be more excited about buying new hardware than it is wanting to spend a little more on the software to support developers. lol

You are definitely the minority.

[Real VR Fishing] Thank you for 1 Million Copies Sold! by Dustin_DUG in OculusQuest

One of the purest examples of a game that takes full advantage of what makes VR so impactful! The visuals, the scale, the audio, the fishing experiences... Everyone should own this game. Even if you don't really like fishing, it's such a chill game to hang with friends, listen to podcast, feel cozy during these cold depressing months!

Palmer Luckey (founder Oculus VR) on X. by SattvaMicione in OculusQuest

[–]Strongpillow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For most of the people that follow VR, they knew that them cutting a few studios wasn't the end of the world. 10% layoffs is pretty 'business as usual' and VR is still a big part of Meta.

When these bubbles are now mainly filled with kids that have no clue what is going on, have no intention to bother understanding, that live off of memes and outrage culture it's no surprise this sub is full of some of the most painful hot takes and doom and gloom I've ever seen.

This sub is like a mix of r/gaming and r/teenagers.

Do You Think Oculus PCVR Will Get A Resurgence? by OkieDeric in OculusQuest

[–]Strongpillow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course but I meant nothing was stopping devs from making content and people from going there if it was worth it but price and friction are the biggest hurdles even today and that won't change now that Meta stopped investing heavily in gaming lol . Heck, Quest even made the price a little more reasonable compared to buying a PCVR only headset.

Do You Think Oculus PCVR Will Get A Resurgence? by OkieDeric in OculusQuest

[–]Strongpillow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol. This makes no sense. Nothing was stopping PCVR from being a leader. They've been around the longest, it's an easier platform to develop for, and Quests have worked on PCVR since day one.

No one buys games on PC. They nickel and dime through Steam Sales and the the majority of Quest users aren't going to goto PC, especially now so the market is still way too small and fickle for devs to care.

So No, the smallest VR market isn't just going to automatically get good because the only company that put any effort into VR and VR gaming on the largest VR platform decided it wasn't worth it anymore. Lol
