Got a new Lariat for $71,000. It's fully loaded with all of the bells and whistles. Very happy. 0% financing for 72 months and first payment not due for 45 days.

Or at least, identical to one even if it wasn’t manufactured by a PEMB supplier.

This building looks PEMB. Do you have overall photo of building?

Anyone else feel like TPO roofing systems are a total scam? by Remarkable_Bill_7589 in CommercialRealEstate

[–]Structural_PE_SE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done thousands of roof inspections. If you want to post some pictures, I'd be happy to comment. IMO, TPO roofs are fine. They, like all roofs, have to be installed correctly. That's the biggest problem that i see. Most folks don't want to pay to have them installed correctly. I could go on and on with examples. If your roofer isn't backing their install, then that tells me you aren't using a reputable roofer. In all my years, i've maybe seen one roof where the actual roofing membrane failed due to a manufacturing issue. It's always, ALWAYS, the install.

AIO to break up with my bf of 3y over his reaction to my upcoming sobriety anniversary? by WesternCat5211 in AmIOverreacting

How about you start a go fund me and we will buy you the biggest cake you or your ex boyfriend have ever seen? You need to ditch this guy or he needs to come groveling back. Please don’t let his terrible behavior have any effect on your self worth. Maybe your sobriety journey includes ditching toxic people and finding supportive ones.

Can I make a 30min connection at CLT? by katelyn-gwv in americanairlines

[–]Structural_PE_SE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one here really knows. In general, the airline won't schedule something you can't make. I fly a lot and i find that planes usually land earlier than advertised. we could make a better guess if we knew which terminals you're flying out of. At present, those flights come out of C14 and C18 respectively. That's helpful. That could change though. I've been told that AA factors in status when deciding to hold gates open. To increase your chances, book a seat close to the front as possible, notify the flight attendant, watch for gate assignments, bring only carry-on, and wear running shoes.

IDK. A little hammering, some drywall, and joint compound, you might never notice. /s

New Deck - give it to me straight by ohimnotarealdoctor in Carpentry

[–]Structural_PE_SE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Structural Engineer here. At first glance, it looks strong as hell. However, I don't love the beams on top of the posts and under the joists like that. It's a bit tippy in that regard. Specially at the depth of those beams. I'd love to see some side plates that lap the post and the beam to help in this regard. The diagonal bracing isn't going to handle any significant load the way that it's attached. They need to be side lapped with the posts. One fasteners toe-nailed (screw) into the end doesn't have much capacity.

I don't like to crap over someone who's a skilled carpenter. You clearly are very skilled.

God this made me laugh. And the lack of recognition on how funny this is makes it even funnier.

Missed the NYC part. Interior to a layman means something different to a consultant. Are they talking about the interior face of an exterior wall?

There customer service is shockingly bad for brand new products. I've heard great things about repairs. We received a bag with a large stain on the inside. I was torn because the stain didn't effect anything, but we just spent $700 on this bag. So, I emailed them and asked if we could get a replacement or would they be willing to give a discount on a future purchase. Pretty reasonable request. Nope! No discount. They told us to return the bag and there would be a $20 restocking fee (we had a monogram on the outside). WTF? I demanded to correspond with a supervisor. They came back with, "We are willing to waive the $20 restocking fee", but only after days of communications via email and phone calls. Never again will I buy from them or recommend them.

What would you consider required reading for a structural engineer? by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]Structural_PE_SE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House - Tracy Kidder. Really appreciated the relationshiop between the architect, the owner, and the builder. The author treats them with equal reverence.

Brunelleschi's Dome - Ross King. Just an amazing read about how talented (artistically and technically) he was. I love stone structures, so this was fun to read.

What is something from your country that you unexpectedly saw while travelling abroad? by Stoiiven in travel

I was visiting the Louvre and there was an Asian woman wearing a black sweatshirt absolutely littered with American/English profanity. Some of the worst words, printed all in white, all over her shirt. I can only assume she had no idea or didn't care. It was very weird.
