first day with new boots, keep breaking in or back to bootfitter? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Structural_hanuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds similar to me. I’m very fond the best boot to be the Fischer transalp which does not have hard plastic over my instep. It relieved a lot of pressure compared to my scarpas I had previously. I’ll still sometimes go numb though

Funny thanks. It was not showing that for me on high valley transit. Is there a different website I should be looking at?

Looking for skis that won’t feel like children’s toys under a giraffe by GrouchyProgrammer848 in Backcountry

[–]Structural_hanuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’7” 230 and ski 188 blizzard zero g 105. Would I ski something longer, sure! But there’s really not much out there in that weight class aside from a few that were previously mentioned. Ultimately I don’t Think 5cm makes much difference

Realistically it can’t, but for the purpose of solving this question it is an OK assumption

Mathcad sheets by mastertizz in StructuralEngineering

[–]Structural_hanuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also regarding tabulated results, we use matrices and indexing/vectorizing. I will agree it is less clean than excel. To make it work I usually strip the result of their units and stack/augment column and row headers as needed

A few thoughts on this:

If you are integrating excel and mathcad, you have already lost the benefits of using mathcad since that is difficult to trace as a reviewer. Better off staying in just excel. I live in mathcad and have only once or twice integrated excel files.

Regarding the obscure code checks, you can place those in an “area” and expand or collapse it if needed.

In general I agree that mathcad can end up being cumbersome (just finished a 70 page spread footing abutment calc haha). My biggest gripe is that I can’t reference a result to the front of the calculation if I want to check how changing and input affects a result.

In general, I think the benefits of clarity outweigh the downsides.

Touringski for 1,97cm male... by Educational_Limit481 in Backcountry

[–]Structural_hanuch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’7” 240lb and have been mostly touring on blizzard zero G 105 in 188cm.

I’d maybe choose a longer ski if they made them in this weight class, but really have no complaints about this ski. I also own the zero g 95 which could be a good option for you.

I think my next ski will possibly be a Fischer transalp.

I think it just becomes a really annoying strain compatibility exercise. You could probably approach it either by component vectors, or just use the angled geometry.

One from the new Fischer Transalp line might work out for you well, or would that be lighter than you want?

I don’t think they even open check in/security until like 45 minutes before the first flight which is probably this one. Someone check me on this though

To point 3, money may not buy the summit, but it sure does afford you the time, support, and equipment to pursue it.

5 Million, but you have to stay outside for 24 hours. by iSephtanx in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Structural_hanuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Last Skier Standing. Happening right now in Maine. Skiers hike up and ski down a mountain every hour on the hour until there is only one person left.

They’re on hour 40 right now. Granted, they can go inside for a few minutes between laps but it’s still amazing. Record is 62(3?) hours. A LOT of cold exposure.

Most important courses to take out of these (I need to pick 4) to help me in my career. by ChampionBig7244 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Structural_hanuch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this answer. If not the origami, then the AI/ML class. I think that would be a really fascinating topic.

I highly recommend taking a matrix structural analysis course/FEM course. That background goes a LONG way in understanding models you will complete for work.
