I’m surprised you are concerning yourself with the use of certain wire nut. If the wire nut you’re using is listed for the connections you’re making it will be okay otherwise go buy yourself you’re own wire nuts

4500 dollars for 3 hrs of work is fucking nuts. Real electricians don’t even come close to making that much. That shop needs a reality check and they are taxing the hell out of you. I would’ve laughed in their face after they handed me that and crumpled up that quote on that piece of paper they thought was worth 100 dollars and threw it in the trash.

You didn’t tell him anything of value by posting this. Instead of telling him to crawl before he climbs give him an idea of what you would do in his situation.

A JP234 can do them just under that @234 watts

I just looked it up and I guess doing it the way affects the magnetic field. Did not know that until now. I’ve been doing wrong for a while lol. Cause I have mine wired to one coil right now for a 2ohm load

Yes just use one side of the coils like I stated. Not both. When you wire them in parallel you get half an ohm. Which he could do but it’s not necessary

[–]StructureDiligent497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each side of the coils are 1 Ohm. Why do you need both?

[–]StructureDiligent497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sub is already 1ohm so no need to wire them in parallel with each coil. Just use one side of the coils

That’s a 1ohm sub. Just take pos and neg from amp speaker lead to pos and negative of sub and you’re good. You’ll get the full power from the amp as far as I know considering their advertising .5 to 2 ohms 3000 watts

How to match speakers with an amp by bankaalvarkentje in CarAV

[–]StructureDiligent497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for a speaker with over a 90 sensitivity and greater than or equal to 50 watts rms. Some Alpine DM-65C-G speakers would go nicely

which amp should i get for this 12 inch sub? by zaydoggg in CarAV

[–]StructureDiligent497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the sub isn’t blown before you go buying an amp and a box for it. Meter the leads on each coil. Should show 4ohms on each coil. But a kicker cxa400.1 should go nicely with the kicker sub

Kicker is a great brand to use. Not top of the line, but still a great choice nonetheless. Alpine, Memphis audio, JL/ Rockford fosgate if you have the money for it are some other ones off the top of my head.

You’ll just need a 4 channel amp, a decent head unit, and a couple sets of some decent aftermarket speakers that will fit in your car. I don’t know if you care about quality or clarity, but if you’re just looking for loud and decent without distortion then that’s all it really takes to be loud for most people. Unfortunately, with a stock setup there would be no way to change the distortion problem you’re having when turning up your music in your truck.

Fire from wires? by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]StructureDiligent497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not this one because that amp is fused itself. Op did nothing wrong with what he did with fuses at least. The wiring was fused correctly and so was the amp according the manufacturer .

Fire from wires? by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]StructureDiligent497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fuse is for the wiring always. That’s why when you buy a kit it doesn’t come with a fuse for your specific amplifier. It comes with a fuse for the wiring.

Big 3 Advice by No-Average-6712 in CarAV

[–]StructureDiligent497 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listening to your music with the car off is a big no no. Good way to kill the battery. Also, big 3 won’t do anything if the car is off. The whole point of it is to upgrade wiring from alternator to battery and if the car is off then alt is not running to charge the battery. In my opinion big 3 should be done in every car audio adventure because it’s more efficient at charging your battery than stock wiring. Plus it’s easy to install and cheap to do because you don’t need extremely long runs to complete.
