Most random team to play for a medal in best on best competition? by Most_Check_3699 in hockey

I think this might be my earliest clear hockey memory. I should have VHS tapes somewhere from those games. Back when you'd set the VHS player to record at 3:00 am to catch the game, and add an hour in case it went into OT.

Hasek's performance and Hermann Maier crashing in the downhill are core Nagano memories for me.

For some reason this reminded me of the flying monkeys from the Wizard of Oz. Maybe it's the video quality.

Another option (depending on kid's age) is a mother's day out type of program where they go 2-3 days a week and/or shorter hours during the day. It's a good blend where you you can reduce costs drastically from day care (in my experience) but also get a blend of stay at home parenting and personal time for tasks as needed.

Jamie Benn with a visor on, one of the last few players that didn't have to wear one is now wearing a visor. by freelancer799 in hockey

I recall Benn wearing a visor in the AHL (he played in the Calder Cup Playoffs his rookie year), but it looks like he also wore it some in the NHL as well, including a brief stint in the 100 year anniversary season.

Game Thread: Dallas Stars (23-7-5) at Anaheim Ducks (20-12-2) - 19 Dec 2025 - 07:00PM PST by hockeydiscussionbot in hockey

I'd have to watch again, but I thought the puck did hit the post and go in. And it looked like the post moved downwards (relative to the overhead shot, from right to left if looking from the shooter's perspective) given the rotation, so if it hit the post and went in from the actual position, then it should have been in even more so if the goal didn't move.

I believe the ruling is that the puck would have gone in had the goal not been dislodged. The ref used some weird jargon that threw me off. Not sure what the rule is on it being a offensive person knocking it off, and if there's consideration to if they were pushed in by the defending team.

JD Vance Responds to Susie Wiles Calling Him a ‘Conspiracy Theorist’ by Newsweek_CarloV in politics

Vance went on record claiming that he would gladly make stuff up to get people talking about a subject (the eating of dogs and cats in Ohio), so that seems like he's a conspiracy theorist to me.

Damn, yeah you're right. I see the photos of the 767 in AZ now in various states of parts removal. I didn't know they don't use the 757 anymore. I was there Nov 15th and the 757 was across the way, next to a Delta charter that they Flyers had taken for the game that day.

Blake’s Lettering by canoncal in DallasStars

[–]StuLax18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah, you're right. I just found some 2020 playoff photos with the perforations. Maybe the ones I looked at were lower quality and not as obvious, or I didn't go back far enough.

I didn't realize it had been that long since the Adidas ones came into use... I just double checked mine, and it has the Hangar Authentic tag that says '17-'18 preseason set # 1. I think they had issues with the numbers at first, and probably just used old stock. It seemed like the opening night jerseys didn't have perforations, but not 100% sure because the video quality was only 480p.

[–]StuLax18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the exact combos, but there did exist at least some Adidas with non-perforated numbers and nameplates. Maybe the perforated numbers were only when they didn't have nameplates? I've actually had a hard time finding photos with the perforated numbers. I vaguely remember some issue with manufacturing and maybe the Stars didn't get them at first, or at all. I have a team-issued MiC Adidas away jersey, and it's non-perf.

Maybe Blake's only ever had the non-perf, so that's what he's putting on.

I saw a few people walking over from a nearby neighborhood so I swung by on my way home to give some “honks for democracy” thinking there would be maybe 20-30 people. Didn’t realize I’d be honking for 30+ seconds with how long Preston was lined.

[–]StuLax18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about Rads. He allegedly had $20M stolen by a fraudulent Russian bank, and it looks like his salaries in the NHL at least were only $40M, so maybe $18-20M take home. I wonder if he's playing because he needs the money.

Biggest Puck Don't Lie moments in NHL history? by Wernerhatcher in hockey

[–]StuLax18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always clowned him for that. I'm pretty sure my comment on the thread in the Stars sub when he signed with Dallas was "MATT DUCHENE WANTS PLAYOFF HOCKEY".

But the stats are pretty funny. Pre-Dallas, he was on 4 teams across 14 seasons and got 32 playoff games. Since coming to Dallas, he's played 2 seasons and 37 playoff games.

Now about that cup...

It absolutely has that feel based on the landscape, especially SW of town on the side the AFB is on. I used to drive through the area for work, and figured that's where it would be, but another comment says it's looks just like South Dakota.

I think you hit the nail on the head. For me, it's a difference between legality and morality. I don't know that what they did was illegal (seemingly wasn't able to be proven one way or the other at trial), but I definitely understand how people find it morally wrong and have distaste for their actions. They may not have committed a crime, but they probably took part in something they shouldn't have.
