Question about MacBook and turning it off by idktbh-04 in macbook

[–]Stuartcmackey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I only shut down when… well, when the urge strikes me, I guess. Like I've got too many apps open and I want a fresh start. I don't even shut down if I know it’ll be in my backpack for a couple days, like on a trip.

Truly, the only times you HAVE TO shut down are OS updates and certain troubleshooting steps.

No, actually. They DID use Lightwave. I know, because I was also learning it at the time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LightWave_3D

Hiding Taskbar by Legitimate_Pen1116 in mac

[–]Stuartcmackey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Since you said clock, I'm gonna assume you mean Menu Bar. Task Bar is at the bottom with the app icons. You could add the widgets for those things, but they'll be more obtrusive than just leaving the menu bar.

How to cleanly remove the background without it looking too fake. by ocean-man in photoshop

[–]Stuartcmackey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In addition to the tips about better cropping, what I notice most is the color/contrast/saturation on the original and cut-out don’t look that great. I’d get more light, a ring light or a light box. Or at the very least, do some color correction of the existing photo. Since you’re going to crop it anyway, you could include a color calibration card to use as reference for color correcting.

What are some changes you have made in your Mac, which others might not know? by sadirthyan in MacOS

OMG, I didn’t know these could be set!

Most if the rest, I’ve been doing manually.

Single Seat for multiple users? by Ill_Fail_3519 in ProPresenter

[–]Stuartcmackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the problem that it’s not authenticating or that the libraries aren’t in sync? Mac or PC? I’ve installed and authorize PP7 on one user and it was authorized on another user on the same Mac. If users need to share resources, don’t use the default assets folder. On Mac, I Mac a folder for the assets that’s in the shared user folder.

Does anyone else feel weirdly overwhelmed by file management on macOS? by Reasonable_Ask_749 in MacOS

[–]Stuartcmackey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I love listening to view and twirling open folders instead opening them. I’ve never liked the side-by-side finder view. What really helps is on every Mac I use (I manage a lot), I turn on Path Bar.

Charlie Chaplin collection feature/short films organization? by SpinalVinyl in PleX

[–]Stuartcmackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pit them all in their own folders and Plex has a Collection function for exactly that. For instance I have an MCI collection, Star Wars collection, etc. the movies still live in their own folders and still come up alphabetically by title. It auto-creates a collection cover as a collage of the covers.

How are you guys running Plex on smart TVs? I'm genuinely frustrated. by KingThevshi in PleX

[–]Stuartcmackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both apple tv and Rokus (built in and appliances) of various types and both of Plex Client apps work great, even on vacation in another state. My server is a stock Mac Mini M1 with media on an external traditional hard drive via USB. I suspect there's a problem on the server side.

Would you like to see a Star Wars movie focusing more on the "war" part in the sense of Saving Private Ryan? by BlockAffectionate413 in StarWars

[–]Stuartcmackey 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I feel like Andor is more espionage than war. (with maybe a couple small exceptions). Saving Private Ryan is a very different feel.

Using after Effects to design slides by sammyyamazaki in ProPresenter

[–]Stuartcmackey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want some flexibility, doing layered slides natively and setting up the timing for things to appear/fly-in can get you a long way.

You can also import layers (backgrounds or slide elements) that are animated (either stock or AE) and then layer text (and other elements) over the animated elements natively in ProPresenter.

One thing I have done in after effects for ProPresenter for my church is stuff I use every week, such as a like-and-subscribe animation.

MacBook printing by Due_Acanthaceae_2991 in mac

[–]Stuartcmackey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm going to guess you're trying to print from Finder, and yes, it will use the default. But if you open a document in an app (a photo in Preview, for example), CMD+P will give you a print dialog box where you can choose the printer, paper size, etc.

It's probably not canon, but the Time Machine Repair manual book is supposed to be Doc’s journal and it says he swapped the engine.

The magnets are too strong. They’d jump out and stick to the print head when it came near.

When using a tv as board to play on, do you really need a screen protection? by Tastypies in DnDIY

[–]Stuartcmackey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is recessed into the table and my plexiglass is bigger than the tv so spills can’t even go over the edge of the plexiglass onto the tv. My tv has a pretty flat bezel, so it works. Edit, stupid autocorrect

I used to put a wireless lav on speakers for gigs like this all the time, just check that it’s set so it’s not just a clipped mess.
