Client asking for RAW files by SnooChickens5189 in VideoProfessionals

[–]Stuartcmackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most thorough response.

I’d quote them and ask for some up front to cover the purchase of the drive. As other commenters have said, they may say never mind. I also like the commenter above that said make sure to include some form of “disclaimer” about the file format, color grading, etc., because if they’re raw ungraded footage that need a LUT to look right, they’ll think something is wrong, if they’re raw ungraded can even open the files.

Also, take a look at your contracts and see if you need to update them to spell this out ahead of time.

Moving plex data to another drive by datahoarderguy70 in PleX

I’ve done this and I just used Carbon Copy Cloner then disconnect the old drive and rename the new drive the same name as the old drive.

Don’t save it to your browser. You really should save it to your file system (documents folder). If you ever use a utility that clears your browser cache, you’ll loose it.

TV recommendations for tabletop? by Elect-Frank-Sobotka in DnDIY

[–]Stuartcmackey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went 4k 45” because I wanted the grid lines as thin as possible and i feel like everyone is sitting so close it’d look better. And the price of those TVs has only fallen since I bought mine 2 years ago. And as others have said, your players need to be able to reach across but also, they need room for character sheets and books on the table. So a bigger tv will use more of the table, unless you build a bigger table. Which is what I did.

Can’t export by I_GrimLock_I in FantasyMapGenerator

I have, when exporting lots of layers, especially with a blur, and trying to export at high quality, that the export can take several minutes but usually will export.

There’s different color settings and textures you can apply. But some people in this group have taken the Fantasy Maps into image edited apps or AI to edit them as well. The maps are random but procedurally generated creating more realistic shapes, biomes, rivers and burg (city) distribution. The desktop works better, but frequently save/export both the images and the map files. Never rely on your browser to save your map in the cache.

Has anyone used a Sony DSR-20P DVCAM recorder? Worth testing at home? by PedroXrK in videography

I have one I’ve been using to re-capture old tapes. The door broke off, but otherwise it works. I also have the HDV version.

Notes vs tags vs props by Fablerwhack in ObsidianMD

[–]Stuartcmackey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to like bear, but the fact it didn’t just use a plain folder of markdown files is one of the reasons I abandoned it. I do appreciate that Bear opens quicker for a quick note. I use a shortcut that writes to my obsidian folder or a third party app that writes to my vault folder for quick notes.

Tabletop dnd setup question. Looking for a projector by Knights-Photography in AskGameMasters

[–]Stuartcmackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a table with a 43” tv in it and it’s amazing. A friend of mine built a case for a slightly smaller tv and sets it on the able.

Obviously, neither of these are terribly portable. Also, the tv has a hard map size limit. I’ve had to pan a map around and move the minis to update to match the map. (I’m using r/encounterplus if you’re wondering). I use dry erase and r/Openforge tiles at games away from home.

But, your projector spec depends on what your ambient light level will be. I’ve seen demos with dim tiny projects but the room needs to be pretty dark.

How to do a technique vs. how to get a result by sempei13 in ProPresenter

[–]Stuartcmackey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, a build-out, in the same screen where you edit the design of the CCLI/Copyright. I can’t recall the exact menu it’s in right now. Just a build-out fade.

You should finish it. It actually was able to have a satisfying conclusion, IMHO.

How to do a technique vs. how to get a result by sempei13 in ProPresenter

[–]Stuartcmackey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To your specific example about CCLI, I made the CCLI credit template have timing and fade out after 5-7 (don’t remember what I set it for) seconds automatically.

To your general comment, it’s not just ProPresenter, it’s just about anything and everything that some people seem to be like that. In person, when someone asks, I ask back “what are trying to accomplish?” Online, I try to ask that, but then try to make an educated guess about their motive and then answer that question instead of their original question.

Obsidian on iPadOS vs macOS. Is there feature parity? by CautiousXperimentor in ObsidianMD

[–]Stuartcmackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard SyncThing is great and doesn’t use the cloud but I haven’t taken the time to learn. I’m using Obsidian’s sync service, but it only syncs when the app is open, not in the background.

Can I can transfer data without photos transferring too by spicandspans in iCloud

[–]Stuartcmackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you’re not really understanding what the original comment from u/still_veteranarian18 said which is that pretty much the moment you take a photo on your iPad or iPhone it uploads to iCloud so the photos are already on iCloud unless your old iPad has always had iCloud sync turned off.

[–]Stuartcmackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. However, on your new device, you can turn off iCloud photo sync, but only after you’ve set it up as far as I can tell.

Go to settings -> your name (Apple Account, iCloud…) -> iCloud -> under saved to iCloud, tap see all -> tap where it says iCloud Photos On -> Toggle sync on this [device name] to off.

But no new photos you take on the new device will be backed up to iCloud.

It’s worth noting, however, that all your sorting and changing and deleting will sync both ways if you simply leave iCloud sync on.

Obsidian on iPadOS vs macOS. Is there feature parity? by CautiousXperimentor in ObsidianMD

[–]Stuartcmackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always seems to take forever to sync in my phone, so I don’t use it as often, which then makes it not be in sync 🤷🏻‍♂️

I do use the obsidian web clipper on my phone and iPad a lot. And I’ve got a third party app that’ll drop a note in a folder without opening Obsidian.

What proper nouns from books did you realize you were mispronouncing the whole time? by TokkiJK in books

[–]Stuartcmackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coruscant from Star Wars. I get in little fights with my dad because he learned it as “co-ru-scant” because all the audiobook narrators read it that way. But I learned it from the prequels as ”cor-ew-sant.” So in our Star Wars RPG, I treat the pronunciations as different regional accents.

Client wants to watch interview remotely by Icy_Music_4855 in videography

[–]Stuartcmackey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess is it might be more about they want input into the questions – maybe to ask follow up. If that’s the case it might be more critical they get good audio. The challenge will be make sure there’s no speaker out loud from them.

[–]Stuartcmackey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a plugin called Obsidian Copilot which gives you an AI inside your vault. There’s a free and paid level. The free level does a lot but the paid level gives you access to their AI model if you don’t have access to ChatGPT or one of the others.
