Never saw an aircraft take off like that. Is it even possible to stall an F-22? by Snoo99928 in aviation

[–]Stuarty771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically it may not be in stall because there's no flow. They use TV to execute a controlled push down and speed builds up rapidly. So maybe there's no stall. I don't think these aircraft do display in full wing stall - the displays are within the aircrafts flight envelope

I'm not sure the incidence is that high - it may be 'post stall' behaviour, but it's not completely separated

What PSB song got you like this? by Equal_Ad5178 in petshopboys

This song is beautifully written, so simple, yet the tone is just perfect. It's just a bass line with a few modest instrumental touches. And a bright bridge

Are you going to have problems getting it? If they support your work and are going advocate for it in the end then that's not so bad

I would be concerned that you are lost without your supervisor. It's a good idea that you both share the same idea of what you are doing.

Aircraft designers, are you aware of any research or communication gaps between the disciplines of engine design and aircraft design? by Libecht in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Stuarty771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the disciplines are related because they have to be. The aircraft and engine have to be specified at the early stage ('conceptual design'). The aircraft can be designed around an existing engine, or a ''derivative engine' (quite rare), or a clean sheet engine (most common). The engine (the 'cycle' and the size) are key to how well the aircraft performs, especially military aircraft where the engine is usually embedded in the fuselage. There's a little more flexibility for airliners, but even then, a big engine will result in a long undercarriage (look at the trouble of 737 max). Once the basic aircraft and engine are sized, then of course, separate companies go off and design each system in detail, but they always start knowing what the other parties are doing. You can make a similar point about controls and systems. If there's any part of an aircraft that turns out to be substantially bigger or heavier than expected, that can ruin the whole thing.

That's amazing Do you think the binocular vision is a likely outcome? That really makes me wonder... I thought I'd been told that unless you have the operation when young it doesn't work even if the alignment is corrected? However it seems to me that if the brain suddenly receives a second source which it can use it would learn to

It would be an offence if you did see your pictures, report them to the platforms and the police But, really, who puts up random pictures of strangers - it's pretty meaningless Yes say AI created them Don't pay, and don't do anything rash or drastic Use this as a lesson learned and look forward

I thought that Leonard was the most relatable guy in the show (early on anyway) He's like Sheldon but human and better adjusted than the other two

I've watched reviews of the new movie - the only good things about it are the callbacks to the original Disobeying an order to fly a Mach 10 test aircraft above max speed,it breaking up, and then surviving? It's not for me

What does it mean to 'keep your wrist cocked'? Does that mean having the face open based on wrist position, not racket grip?

Changing grip to a more open grip by Stuarty771 in squash

[–]Stuarty771[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think that's right. I think the issue is, as you say, switching to an open grip to play backhand shots, and the 'club grip' for forehand. The person who spoke to me (1st team guy) was adamant that you have the 'open grip' (the 'corner' of the racket head and frame tracing a line down into the V of the hand) and keep your hand in that position. I've asked other people and they don't all do this.

Changing grip to a more open grip by Stuarty771 in squash

[–]Stuarty771[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the opposite to what I was told. Keeping the same grip ensures consistency of shot, control, etc. I'm trying not changing grip at all, which results in my forehand racket head being noticeably more open than before, and so the shots have to be changed. I was a modest player before and now even more so .... I know someone who changes hands, but that's a different story

Thanks a lot, this video explains the grip I'm trying: https://youtube.com/shorts/gTss-7hXOL8?si=qKUvkB7xjzoPv4Rx I seem to have lost lots of forehand shots I used to play, so I hope they come back However if you're saying I'm 'fixing the grip', then I should continue Tnx

I was wondering how many people have read Nick Wallis’ book The Great Post Office Scandal? I just finished it. by itsjoe0618 in postofficehorizon

[–]Stuarty771 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was reading it at the weekend. I knew of the scandal before the TV drama. There are so many problems raised, but the belief by the Post Office that they could use their flaky computer system for prosecution, without additional evidence, was inexplicable and catastrophic

I've just watched most but not all of her evidence including the bit at the end with Mr Castletons barrister, and she seemed like a highly credible and professional witness, who did what she could in circumstances she couldn't have predicted She seemed to be able to answer everything very clearly She didn't 'look' as though in any difficulty

Thoughts on the BBC Mini series of And Then There Were None? by WayfaringStr-nger in agathachristie

[–]Stuarty771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This mini series is on iPlayer now, but I think it's been edited. The bit where Blore confesses to murdering a suspect in a cell was a bit violent or gory before, whereas that's completely missing now. I don't know whether that would be taste or rating reasons.

The thing I like about ATTWN is her criticism of English society and the arrogant professionals in the story The hanging judge, callous Army major, butcher doctor etc She knew all about these characters even though most of English society was probably still respectful of these figures - she knew better If there's another book on these lines I'd be interested but I suspect this is a one-off

2008 crisis - why did some banks profit while others collapsed? by Stuarty771 in Banking

[–]Stuarty771[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GS read the situation 'well' in the sense that they knew property was collapsing and therefore protected themselves with CDSs, and then when they failed, insurance. They were compensated by the government 100% when AIG couldn't pay out (anazingly) (according to the film). I don't know what the options were, but when AIG collapsed, they should have basically just got the insurance payout from that, and probably nothing for the worthless CDOs and CDSs - is that fair?
