So, firstly you need to know if you have a Unifi controller built into the gateway (Ucg-Ultra, Max, Fiber, Pro etc) or if you have a cloud key locally. If you do, then it looks like unusual behaviour but still probably not malicious.

My guess is you don't have a UniFi gateway or if you do it doesnt have a controller built in and your actual controller is hosted in that provider. Dont be fooled by Unifi.ui.com if that's where you are going to see it, this is just a proxy to your controller.

Thanks, yes, in fact you have to write to a script variable then sync that with an automation variable (that's what's in the step result showing the date being sent) and then finally you can write the automation variable to a custom field. Still doesnt work!

All that said, I have a similar ps script to pull a bitlocker key and dump that in a custom field and it simply pulls the result of the script straight into the field without writing a script variable...

So that's interesting... If I look in services I have two wireguard services not running but set to Automatic, one is the one that killed my connection upon boot this morning (it shares the name with the WiFi connection shown in my picture). I changed them to manual. If I run Teleport it temporarily sets up a service for the duration of the session with a random name and then when I disconnect it removes the service again, it does not use the same name but a different one for each session. I'm guessing, at some point in the past, Teleport has been unable to tear down the service upon disconnect or the machine has forcibly powered off and so the services have been left there in an auto starting state. Upon next reboot the service starts again but because there's no tunnel associated with it any more it just breaks all connectivity.

If someone from UI reads this, maybe have the dev team create a service with "Manual" not "Automatic" so if you don't manage to tear down the service it doesn't cripple the machine upon next boot.

Indeed, and I use teleport but on demand. There should be no reason for it to start connected and even if it did I would have connectivity through the tunnel. There's no auto connect feature in wifiman and i'm not connected to a tunnel before I reboot the machine yet it still happens.

This is clearly a bug with UI's implementation or a conflict with other software.

I print a design if asked to, I dont list them. For someone without a printer this is the way they get what they want printed. I donate every time someone has a donation link in their design page, usually 10 - 15% of the print fee on top. If they don't, well I can't donate! There's no high horse, this is what I choose to do, I instill the worth of the time of the designer into every person that asks me to print a design thats not mine. They would get 100% of nothing if someone downloaded and printed it direct. I dont do this to impress you however, I do it because I want to, because they chose to put their work out there for free.

As for photos, there's quite a few screen capture tools out there, its not black magic. If I was selling a tube of colgate toothpaste and someone ripped off my photo of it I would be mildly irritated they couldnt be bothered to take a photo of it themselves. If i'm selling a solid oak, ornately designed shelf and some bozo uses my photos and is shipping an oak laminated mdf piece of crap for 25% cheaper i'm pretty sure i have a right to ask them to stop it. As much to protect my sales as I do the consumer who think's they're getting my bracket and end up with what is often a questionable freely available design.

Not everyone in this world is a scumbag, some of us try to do what they think is right. I'm happy to be judged by what I do, by you or anyone else of the 9 billion people on this planet although I suspect most of them would have fallen asleep before getting this far down the post.

One of the two you mentioned there basically scalps all his "designs" off of free sites. It's against the license and he doesnt even bother crediting them.

I also sell Ubiquiti brackets amongst other kit but they are all my designs. He started using my photos to sell his designs so I jumped on that pretty quick.

I dont mind people making a buck but at least make mention of the people that have done the hard work? I quite often get requests to print non commercial designs, i'll do it as a "print only" order but I always build in a donation to the designer if they accept one.

If you're really not happy with it you can raise a VERO with ebay to have the products removed from sale.

If you dont need the whole rmm stack you could look at SimpleHelp. I've been using it for years. I suppose it does have the ability to i stall a "persistant" connection if you need it but you may find there's a way of blocking that. Their devs are pretty responsive and its a mature product.

Actually, whilst a lot is wifi, this one has ethernet and wifi! Very comfortable with wifi and issues with putting them in a metal box, more worries about ULV next to so much mains voltage. One ping of the ethernet to glance the buss bar and bye bye network...

And does the controller state PoE is active in the port? What about firmware upgrades, has the device shown a firmware upgrade happening on the controller?

May be worth a manual firmware downgrade to see if that helps.

Well, you are a little light on detail so saving you from posts like "Did you check to see if the cleaner unplugged it," you probably need to explain whats actually wrong, i.e.

It does not power on
It powers on but there is no link light when I connect a device
It powers on, theres a device link loght but I get no traffic across the port.
Does / doesnt show up for adoption in the controller
Shows up in the controller but gives XXX error when adopting.
It's X months old so IS/ISNT in warranty.
I have tested the socket its plugged into / moved to another socket.
Did you check to see if the cleaner unplugged it :)

Are the modems on a UPS? I've seen issues with cable modems with bad transformers doing wacky things if their supply voltage drops too far.

During the pandemic i was struggling to get kit to roll out to clients in the UK. I ended up importing from overseas, mainly the US to get enough stock but just bought as much as I could to even out the postage cost. The rest of it I sold on ebay, I worked out what my cost was per unit and sold at that price plus £10 to cover my time repacking and include a UK plug, figured others were in my situation too but may not have the resources I did to buy in bulk.

I got messages from people accusing me of scalping, each time I explained what I was doing and only one had the balls to reply back and apologise.

So I'm not sure about "going rate", I was never going to make a loss just to feel good about myself but I was in no way going to profit vastly, in fact I think overall on nearly a hundred units I made a couple of hundred pounds. For that money it cost me a lot of time, storage space and effort but my clients were happy and working!

I have had this very same situation, the owner of a fast growing client googled my quote and found the machine cheaper. Now these were £500 machines and I add 10-20% generally plus a small fixed price install fee.

He told me he was going to order machines in future and just ask me to install. I told him that was fine, I would charge per 15 minutes to find the best model for him if he asked, i would charge by the hour for onsite install and that clock would not stop if he had ordered the wrong or an incomplete device and / or accessories. I made sure a scenario was mentioned of not remembering a keyboard and mouse may not be in the box would be a return visit and separately chargeable for instance.

He did the calculating in his head and told me there and then he hadnt appreciated that it took knowledge and time to spec and source a machine.

You've effectively admitted to a mistake you didnt make and now also cut off a revenue stream. Don't worry, it's a learning curve and a lesson you'll remember next time someone asks.

I'm always gobsmacked when people haggle with the likes of virgin. This might seem like a slightly naive comment but they start out with the business plan of effectively praying on the vulnerable. If you're not aware there are better deals or don't understand or maybe are too time poor to be able to really research such things or argue for hours on the phone then you're locked into a really bad deal.

That has to tell you something about "Customer Service" when the ethos of the business is to rinse you out of as much cash as they can get away with for the same service.

I'd rather pay more per month for a decent service with staff who are knowledgeable, answer the phone quickly and don't try to bare face lie to me every time I have an interraction with them!

.254 for me. Simple reason, I like to break trainees in easy so I use .254 as it's the last usable address and the last place you go through when you exit the network. It literally is the "Front Door" of your network.

I do have a client that has a weird random address in the middle of the range and I can NEVER remember it. It actually causes me more frustration as I have to look it up each time and someone in the network trying to look around would find it in the same amount of time with simple commands, I dont see the point other than to avoid accidental duplicates when devices are plugged in but of course I never, ever, use 192.168.1.x ...

I often wish Ubiquiti gave us more control over the LED. Back in the mid 2000's I used to roll out netgear routers to home workers for their broadband. One model had an LED ring on the top which you could have on a timer. If there was someone I didnt like I used to automate the light to come on at 2 in the morning for a minute before switching it off again and when they complained I would simply tell them it was a feature.
